Ultimate 1/6 Darth Vader

Which one would it be? I got to the collecting game late and am jumping to the SW bandwagon.

Apologies if such thread has been made before.

get the SST version, has both bulk and size. The medicom one is very good for its time, but needs special taste.

I'd say Sideshow unless something wrong happens in production.

The Medis would be too short for anything but other Medi figures. Vader is about the size of a Standard Sideshow figure.

I'd have to say SS. Here is the Med Vader with SS ST. I have the Vader standing on a platform. As you can see the ST has more bulk to him.

But then again, I'm planning on getting maul, fett etc to pose with him. And I like the figures to at least have the same height.

From what I heard so far, the medicom maul is better compared to the SS ones?

I still prefer the Sideshow Maul, but I think both have their pluses and minuses.

But for Vader (unless he gets messed up) Sideshow's should be a great option. I think (as always) a great custom will always be better, but you will also pay a lot more. Hurricane is pretty much the king of 1/6 Vaders... so that is always an option.

When are we expecting to see the SS ones anyways? And is the helmet removable too, like the medicom ones?

Not removable, at least not the ANH version as there was no reveal in that film. I think he's scheduled for a Q2 release, but I expect at least somewhat of a delay.

Forget the Medicom one. Looks nice, but he's small.

SS look good and will be the most inexpensive option

Custom if you wanna spend the money and go nuts on realism.....

Or go with the last two options as I have, and be sick in the head (but loving it!!!) :chew

I voted my ROTS medicom Vader..once i get the height sorted out with him that is, Sideshow will only own this figure in height but, i think the tailoring on medicom is going to stay as the winner and sculpt as well, and besides that..we got a head underneath with the Medicom, if SS screws up the shape of ANH Vaders helmet, there will be no excuses like "because of the head underneath" etc...Medicom did a superb job on this figure for both versions of it and Jango Fett will be hard to beat as well...i am not a huge fan of Medicom at all, i think their Jack Bauer is crap and TDK Joker and Begins Batman is so crap, Hannibal Lector,Wolverine (movie version), Jack Sparrow..all these figures are not even close to being worth $80 IMO, let alone $100 and up.

Definitely SS Vader. The Medicom one is way too short for Vader. The SS will be in scale and from the proto pics looks fantastic. We won't know for sure until he ships, but it is looking good for the SS Vader.

Have you even researched them yet? Tons of info and pics on the Sideshow version here. SS's has the height as well as mass that Medicom no matter how many leg extenders are put on can't compete with. They have the ANH details knocked out. That is my pick.

I don't mind spending a bit more, but have the perfect darth vader (and maul for that matter) if I could get both the height, head sculpt, and the tailoring right.

I want to put the vader together with fett, maul, ST. So obviously getting a mixture of SS and medicom won't work. The height issue, I can live with, as long as it looks proportional with the other SW line. I'm more concerned bout the extra details, such as the removable helmets (which is very nice to have) and the tailoring and the armor details.

Any pics of the ones hurricane customs btw?

Its interesting that the medicom young anakin version is more popular with the crowds here, compared to the old anakin vader.

I have always thought that there's more demand to the old anakin, cause its fetches more compared to the young anakin on ebay.

The Medi Vader is a great figure, but the height and mass was a distraction to me. I can't wait for Sideshow's.

i have a custom ANH coming from hurricane (glenn) check out vaderville in the custom section. youll see pics of his latest. oh and it just happens to be mine i have the 2 medicoms . as cool as they are. i think glenns is going to be THEE definitive vader for me. as others said. medicoms are too short and not "BIG" enough.

If I were you I'd get SST's Vader before committing to anything.
I have Medicom's ROTJ Vader, a beautiful figure to be sure, but the scale won't work with SST figures.
Once you have SST's Vader you can check if you want to upgrade it with Glenn's (hurricane) help. I'm almost positive I will have mine customized...
