the HD version will NOT be a combo disc with DVD on one side and HD on the other. I specifically asked this question as well.

Thanks for the info! I didn't cancel my standard order, but thought about putting in an order for the HD set as well and deciding later. I may still do that if I think I will be upgrading to HD before Dec, or soon after.

Yeah, it was the Blade Runner set that pretty much made up my mind to go HD.

Ultimate Collector's Edition Blade Runner Set - So, Who Picked It Up?

Well, I went to pick it up today at Best Buy, but had to wait due to some asinine rule - Can someone explain the logic where a store will not price-match their own website?!? I can order either the HD-DVD or BluRay versions online for 79.99 and choose pick it up in store and get it for that price ... but, if they ring it up inside, it's 99.99. The wait got me to thinking. Are the extras really worth the extra 40 to 50 bucks? I will definitely be getting the 5 disc set (probably BluRay, but not sure yet). But that can be had for around 35. I am a big Blade Runner fan, but just don't know if the extras they have are worth it. Did anyone pick it up today? If so, please give me your candid review of the briefcase/extras (I already know from Hi-Def digest the DVDs are near perfect). Thanks in advance.

Re: Ultimate Collector's Edition Blade Runner Set - So, Who Picked It Up?

I have both the DVD ($54) and HD-DVD ($67) on order from Deep Discount DVD with with free shipping. I'm just waiting for them to show up.

I never buy from Best Buy.

Re: Ultimate Collector's Edition Blade Runner Set - So, Who Picked It Up?

I have this on my Xmas list, but I doubt my wife will buy it for me.... So I am hoping that maybe I will get a giftcard or something so I can score this. One of my most awaited DVD purchases ever that is for sure. :rock

Re: Ultimate Collector's Edition Blade Runner Set - So, Who Picked It Up?

Mine shipped yesterday (Monday) from amazon.com so i should get it between christmas and new years. I ordered the DVD version, i don't care about Blue-Ray or HD.

Well, I just couldn't resist buying the 5-DVD set today for The Final Cut! I had been planning on getting it since hearing about its release here in the U.S. I got it at work at Best Buy. It came in that cool briefcase with a reproduction of one of Gaff's cool origami unicorns, a blue police spinner car, a lucite "moving" Deckard picture, a nice art portfolio, a printed written letter from director Ridley Scott on a clear plastic piece that goes on top of everything....whew! :monkey4 Plus all of the different versions of the movie, including the very rare "workprint". I'll post some pictures of it here soon. I got the lowest numbered one we had. We only got six of them in stock. I can't wait to dig in and watch everything starting tonight! :D

I told my wife this was coming out right before Christmas, and she told me to order it. It saves her from buying me one more thing. :lol

I had them on order with Amazon, but canceled being the week before Christmas.

Re: Ultimate Collector's Edition Blade Runner Set - So, Who Picked It Up?

The more I think about it, the more I am contemplating just picking the 5 Blu-Ray disc version up for 35 tomorrow. The spinner looks cheap in the pics I have seen, and the case, while cool, will just go in the DVD cabinet after a few days. The only thing that kinda resonated with me was the artwork, but none of it looks cool enough to frame. So, I guess I will put the other 50 bucks toward another DVD next year.

I watched the awesome new documentary about the making of Blade Runner entitled "Dangerous Days" from the new 5-DVD Ultimate Collector's Edition Final Cut box set. Wow, it was a very thorough and exhaustive documentary that covered the entire process from adapting it from Phillip K. Dick's book up after the release and reaction of the movie, and then the later true appreciation of the film by fans and fellow filmakers such as directors Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy, Pan's Labrynith) and Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, and Stephen King's The Mist). Blade Runner will always be one of my all-time favorite movies. I will watch Ridley Scott's new "final cut" DVD soon sometime this weekend. I am happy to finally have this set and have all of the different versions of the movie. This movie was VERY underappreciated and underrated for a LONG time. It deserved to get much more attention and respect than it did. It was truly a movie "ahead of its time". I'm one of those long-standing fans that have always stood behind the film since first seeing it as a kid growing up in the 1980s. Harrison Ford IS my favorite actor. Rick Deckard was another incredible role for him. I am VERY happy to see Blade Runner finally get the royal treatment it deserves with this incredible set! I don't think the police spinner car is "cheap". It is made out of die-cast metal just like Hot Wheels cars today. It has all the detailing and lights on it that it had in the movie. Gaff's unicorn origami piece is made of hard silver plastic, and is very nice. I'm happy with the set....VERY happy! It is well worth every single penny spent on it.

I give Blade Runner an "A+" grade in my book....and also give an "A+" to this set too! Go out and buy it now! :D

Blade Runner is one of those few films that have inspired and influenced future film makers, fans, and culture as a whole. There have been so many other movies and T.V. shows that borrowed the "Blade Runner" look of a dark and oppressive future. I can't say enough great things about this movie! I could go on all night....

I got my Blu-ray 5-disc set today, and it looks fantastic. I passed on the super-deluxe version even though it looked cool since I generally just look at the extra goodies once and then put them away forever. I'd rather put the money toward, oh, I don't know... A Blade Runner blaster? :D

Which box-set? If your looking for the brifcase version i don't think it's relased in the EU, just the US. EU will get the regular 5-disc digipack. So you'll have to import it... like me:D I think i will get mine saturday or thursday from amazon.com:chew
