I was trying to make use of the molded plastic under-garment that HT provided with the figure. It was essentially two chest pads (strung together) on the front - and a separate upper back pad on the back. The front and back was tethered together and attached to the helmet frame. The whole rig was then glued to the rubber suit.
It was a very minimalistic setup that left the back a little scarce in detail. Reference pics show a one-piece garment that goes from the chest over the shoulders and ends at the back.
The other problem was that the molded plastic chest pads were small. They didn't extent far enough to the right and left (as seen from the front.
Pictured here is my fabricated garment that is closer to the ones used in the film. I also switched to elastic lacing on the front (HT used wired lacing which looked sloppy). I kept the HT back pad, but attached it to my custom garment rather than just have it sit alone like how HT did it. I used the two nozzle attachments to mount the front of the garment in place.
The new garment pulls the shoulder armor, chest plate, helmet, and backpack together visually. They don't look like items hanging loosely off of the body. Once I weather the garment a bit - the details I etched into the soft foam will pop out more.

There is a thread on a props forum where they made some exact life size replicas of the suits, but I can't find it at the moment. It has an absolute wealth or reference material on it, hundreds of photos. Have you seen it?

I have seen that thread Reaktwon. The suits those guys made are amazing. I think they won best of show at one of the ComicCons from a few years back. My dream is to eventually have a suit made for me.

Holy crap Tin, you just keep giving! Like you I got into Alien through seeing the suits first and they have a very special place in my heart. Have you seen the leaked Prometheus shots in the movie section? I'm disappointed with the new suits although there's a certain resonance with the original design.

Thanks Jmek! I DID see the Prometheus shots. I don't like the slim looking suits. Ironicly those suits look like every other space suit from every other movie after "Alien". "Outland", "Armageddon", - you name it all to me are ripoffs of the Nostromo suits from "Alien".

The suit is FINALLY 100% done and done! I've gone through and weathered out the entire suit - including the recently completed under-garments. Another mod I made was to relocate all of the strap loops on the back of the chest plate so that the straps themselves can be located more closely to how they are in the movie. I swapped in new straps all around that are closer in color to the movie - making the main strap supporting the little wench unit thicker than the rest of the rigging.
The weathering and the under-garments together pull the whole figure components together much more uniformly.
I'm about 80% done with the Kane head. That's the last finishing touch. Coming Soon!

Got recently DALLAS and always was facisnated by the suit that HT made but now i just find it underwhelming ^^
Hope you can work out a few suits.
I would definitly love to upgrade mine.

Thanks for all the compliments guys! I'm almost done with the headsculpt but I have a busy weekend so I might not get it done til mid week. I don't want to rush it since a bad head can ruin all my work on the suit.
Once I get the head done and painted - I'll post some better lit - posed presentation pics.

Wor-Gar; that was one of the goals I set out to accomplish from the beginning. It's super easy to completely obscure the human form underneath so much padding. In the movie - it's okay because we see the astronauts moving etc. But with a figure that is stationary - the suit can take over and you don't get a sense of there being a person underneath.
So I purposely padded the suit so that the human posture is accentuated. And left areas like the back of the knees and bends of the elbows less padded for both articulation and realism (since these areas would be where the suit would be crumpled from natural movement of the arms/legs).
You don't really get that impression from the HT rubber suits. The arms and legs are too uniformly symmetrical - so it doesn't have that natural organic feel - very stiff looking. My gf calls it the "Michelin Man" look
