I'm chatting with the guy now. Telling him I never sell the original prototype figures. You're right - I've put so much time and energy into Kane; there's no way I'd sell him. The guy will have to wait for a duplicate or else he will be empty handed.

He'll wait. No matter what he says.

If not, than whatever price he's throwing around, imagine youself being paid that amount to make another; with all the time, energy, buying/finding parts, doing the detail work into the wee hours, etc. Would you do it? If not, don't sell. If so, then make him another at that price.

I don't want to know; if its too low then I'd be tempted to make an offer, and if it's too high then I'd realize just how out of reach this figure is for me.

That's precisely why I've keeping mum on the specific price of the offer

I was able to convince the buyer to wait for a duplicate. Told him that the duplicate would actually look better than the prototype since it would have all of the refinements learned from the prototype. And would be a much better bargain. Which is true.

Guys like that buyer don't understand. I usually never start one of these projects thinking that I would sell the end product - or make money from the parts. I'm weird that way. If I sat down and said to myself; I'm going to make this figure so I can sell it - 99% chance I'd never finish it.

But I open my HT Kane and find him melted to the inside of the box. Then I start thinking how cool it would be to make a fabric suit from scratch. That's when I'm motivated to put in the time and effort.

I have to want the figure to exist myself. I can't just do it for the bank.

it was pretty easy to tell that you did this out of a labor of love as opposed to profit. the time you took, the thought & care with the reworks all the while posting your work...........
and i was only kidding when i asked about the offer amount. that's between you and him.

There's another problem: tin, if you sell it, YOU will forever be without a Kane figure, (at least to use the armor and helmet pieces) unless you're willing to pay about $400 on eBay for a new one. I checked eBay, with a Lambert conversion in mind- and there was only ONE for sale, for $359.99, and no Dallas. Almost all of us here at your thread already have our own Kane and/or Dallas, ready and eager to pay you to improve ours with your amazing work.
I think you should tell the guy on FB to buy his own Kane on eBay or wherever first, THEN he can get in line to pay you for your upgrades.
That's what I would do in your position. Whatever you decide, you have my utmost respect as a fellow ALIEN fan and modeler.

That's a good point Anthrapoid. I didn't bring up the lack of HT spare parts with the buyer. But he said he has both Kane and Dallas - so maybe when the time comes I can convince him to use one of them.

There was a period just after the release of the HT figures when there was tons of spare armor, helmets, and backpacks available on eBay. I wish I would have grabbed me one or two more armor/helmet/backpack set so I can make a Dallas/Kane/Lambert trio.

The amount of work and research that went into it is just mind-boggling. As is the result!

Made some more refinements to the HS. I only have this weekend left before my work will get hectic again for a while - so this will probably be the last HS revision for a while. Decided to take pics without the bonnet this time. The bonnet covers all of the unrefined stuff around the face. The version that I will make casts from will have all that cleaned up.

A very subtle fix that probably only I would notice. When I originally modified the Dragon bodies for Kane - I shorted the legs a little too much. As a result - I was never satisfied with the legs to arms ratio. From the front it looked fine, but from the back - you could tell. So tonight I lengthened each lower leg by about 1/4 inch. Makes a big difference - at least to me

He also had a gimpy left ankle so I fixed that too. And note the two unpainted emblems on the gloves.

Great updates, tin. I'm so tuned-in on your progress, I'm going to go crazy waiting to see more while your other work keeps you away.

How did you make the emblems on the gloves? Hand-painted? decals? They look good, but I hope to see a close up when possible.
