Re: UPDATED:Custom Nostromo Kane : Fabric Bonnet Version 2

Thanks Anthrapoid. :wave I was about to get rid of those two bulkheads, but it's a hollow inside. So it will be a bigger task that I will have to do at some other time. Basically cut them out and them fill in with filler and repaint.
Are you sure cutting them off would create holes? I'm looking at mine, and they are very small, only about 2.5mm at the angular apex; they might be solid protrusions. I haven't opened my backpacks, so I don't know- but they're quite tiny.

Re: UPDATED:Custom Nostromo Kane : Fabric Bonnet Version 2

I discovered they were hollow when I transplanted the peg for the air hose.

Re: UPDATED:Custom Nostromo Kane : Fabric Bonnet Version 2

Just finished Kane boot Ver 2.0. This one is much more screen accurate. Kane is seen wearing this boot during most of the key derelict scenes. The boot that I made previously was based on a version of Dallas's boot that actually turned out to be worn by the child actor stand-ins.

The boot worn by Kane (and Dallas/Lambert) in the derelict had a much less boxy side profile. The boot had a flattened top - sitting on a thick sole that had an extremely complicated triangular side pattern that continued underneath the sole. For my boot - I made a simplified pattern and did not continue it across the bottom. It would have been extremely difficult to line up on both sides.

I also made this boot mix-medium. The sole and body of the boot is sculpted - while the neck of the boot is thin leather. I did this to avoid the issue I experienced before where the sculpted neck of the boot would get in the way of the hem of the pants.

I also used strips of leather for the strap details on the boot body. And note the security piping that goes around the boot.

Here are some pics of the boot - and a pic of Kane with one boot on. It looks a lot more like the movie I think.

Re: UPDATED:Custom Nostromo Kane : Fabric Bonnet Version 2

I just found a side-view pic of these boots and I have the sole a little off. They shouldn't be rounded off at the front and sides - but straight down. Just the back has that distant curve. I'll fix this weekend.

Re: UPDATED:Custom Nostromo Kane : Boot Version 2.0 Screen Accurate

I made some mods to the appearance of Kane's backpack:

1) I sculpted replacement red dials. The ones HT used looked too much like faucet dials rather than industrial dials.

2) I carved out the two vertical square bulkheads the dials nested on and replaced them with cylindrical bulkheads.

3) I sculpted an arched top to the frame that surrounds the LED lights.

4) I altered the center circular detail with the slit in it. I extended the slit to the top side face.

5) I sculpted a fixture for the air tube connector that is conformed to the air tank.

6) I sculpted a new top profile for the overall backpack that is much closer to the screen backpack. The HT used mostly squared off corners - while the actual backpacks had rounded off or arched edges.

Here's a comparison of the original HT backpack and the movie one that Anthrapoid posted earlier:
