a big, yes, is my guess. According to Mr Wang, this is a 3 part thing for SIdeshow and my guess is that Spiderman will be the 3rd member.

I've never seen Steve Wang's interpretations of any comic character before this and Carnage, does someone have a link to them? I'm also very interested in his Spider-Man. If he goes "narrow" eyed then it might look very Silver Age:

Spidey+2.jpg

Which I could get very excited about but knowing my luck his Spidey will have eyes that are half the ____ing head...

If they didn't fix Carnage, I don't think they'll fix this one. :(

Now, I'll admit I like this a little bit. I'm not TOTALLY hating it, and will I try to pick it up down the road at a good price? Most definitely.

But....

I'd like to know one thing:

What goes through the production department's head when someone plasters the pics we got tonight onto an overhead project and says "Here's our new Venom 1:1!! Thoughts?"

There's NO WAY a group of people got together and unanimously said, "I think we have a winner." :yess:

I respect the artist's interpretation, etc. etc. That I get. But Sideshow is in the business to appeal to the biggest crowd possible, which is why they're probably revisiting a character with this much popularity. But when you present something THIS radical, don't you think you should run it by your fan base first? Maybe a "Tell us what think before we go mass producing this" thread. I'm sure it will sell some pieces...no doubt, but it had a LOT more potential, just like Carnage. And after a while of displeasing (at least to a certain extent) a majority of the fans (which is apparently the case, based on the replies in this thread,) you think they'd be worried about losing some customers.

I respect Sideshow. I love their work, but it's really sad to see pieces miss the mark by only a few tweaks here and there.

Excellent post.

Its seems Sideshows arrogance in assuming what fans will like instead of actually asking them is why they have so many unsold items filling up their warehouse.

Thats one thing i admire about Bowen designs, he actually previews his sculpts to get fans/customers reactions and if the majority of the comments are negative then he will sometimes tweak certain aspects of the sculpt based on fans suggestions.

At least there can be no nasty surprises with the Daredevil and Green Goblin 1:1 busts as we have already seen early sculpts of those two.

If Wang was gonna go big with the eyes, he should have done it with Venom. It's kinda his trademark.

The price thing is getting WAY out of control. I'm all about the Life-Size busts, but the quality is going downhill quick. I go back and forth with these things, but when I do have my head on straight, I can't justify it.

I'll admit I do like the Thor and Wolverine 1:1s and have them on order, but honestly, I might (and probably will) cancel if this keeps up. I was thinking of doing all 1:1 bust only collection and selling the rest (PFs, comiquettes, etc.,) but I'm not going to downgrade.

I'll do what I did with the Hulk bust and get it for a fraction of the cost on the secondary market. I paid $300 out the door for my Hulk 1:1. Some would say that's even too much. I'll admit I liked it a lot more in person, but would I pay more than $300 for it?....No.

That's basically my same thought process on this one, especially when I have the OG Venom 1:1 staring at me straight in the face on a daily basis. I paid well under retail for him and it set the bar, IMO.

No other Marvel 1:1 touches it.

that's my plan on buying 1:1's...I'll wait till the end of the year black friday sales like I did with the hulk 1:1 & get one 1/2 off

Wow, only just checked out the images now. This thing looks effin sick as hell. I just skimmed the above posts and I'll have to read back a few pages, but people are hating on this? I understand hating on the funky upper jaw of the Carnage bust, but this rendition of Venom is just beastly.

Too bad I can't afford/don't have the room for 1:1 busts, otherwise I'd definitely pick this up.

(edit: Okay, reading the reasons behind the negativity I understand it now. However, I still like the look of it.)

If this info is accurate, then we know with a high degree of certainty that the Venom bust will not be altered before release. It sounds like SSC contracted Wang to do the three busts in his style (which is not my preference) and it would probably be awkward on their part to ask him to change his style to suit the outcry from the fans.

Note to Sideshow: Probably not a good idea to lock in a multi sculpt contract with an artist until feedback on the first released statue is received. :lecture

This piece has to be one of the most disliked by fans in my 4 years of collecting. I know the Carnage 1:1 bust wasn't well received, but this Venom bust is, well, exactly that.... a BUST!!!

Up until the last few months, I have liked most everything SSC has produced in the Marvel line. However, this piece and the Red Skull LSB have been easy passes for me. Come on Sideshow, right the ship quick before it sinks!

I like this but the eyes do need tweeking to be an inch or so wider and lower.
Whether SS does this or I do, I'm still getting this bust.

What confuses me is this:
To me, 2 pieces from Sideshow that are from the same license, are approximately the same height, approximately the same size/shape and all from the same line (LSBs) should be in the general ballpark of price. Now Im not saying every LSB should be the EXACT same price, but in the same ballpark. In this case the Galactus LSB which is comparable in height and size was in the mid $200s, this thing is $600. And Galactus was much more detailed, had a more intense paint ap, had multiple pieces, and a mini Surfer figure on a stand. There is not that much more raw material (polystone) being used in Venom to warrant a $400 price increase. Doesn't make much sense to me. Luckily for me, this is not a Venom statue, its an Asian Big Bird with the Symbiote on it and semen painted eyes. SS has saved me even more money for the year. Don't get me wrong, I love Sideshow, they were more or less on their game last year, any given month I probably had about 3-4 PO's shipping. It's nearly week 2 of Feb and I haven't bought one thing yet. A lot of it having to do with letting these whackos have "creative license" with their sculpts. Ultimately cancelled Colossus over the decision to make a Mr. Roboto face from out of nowhere. THere is source material, please stick with it!

Yeah, the bust is draw-dropping imo. Excellent rendition of Venom imo. Maybe the best @ this scale? Owners of the original 1:1 may disagree; either way, SS did well here. $600 is steep, yes. But this was always going to be for those niche buyers that are willing to shell out the extra.

Gorgeous, gorgeous piece

I look at my Spidey 1:1 and I weep tears of joy for being lucky enough to own one:monkey2:monkey2

Obviously the sarcasm was missed on this one...anyone have that link for Wang's art?
