They really are about as disgusting a group I've ever seen.

There is a fairly successful counter-protest group of bikers that follow the groups and provide a motorcycle escort that drowns out there chanting and BS message.

Phelps and a great many of his little band are also lawyers. Last I heard, it was THE thing that Phelp's children and grandchildren were required to do. They are all despised and through countless litigations costing the taxpayers, they have been held back with various court orders, etc., to limit some of their idiocy. But for every one small victory against them, there are 3-5 more that have been lost due to their wrapping themselves in the Bill of Rights, especially with the Freedom of Speech and freedom to gather.

Having encountered some of their folks personally, I can only say that they are a cancerous, total opposite example of what human beings aught to be.

the solution to the westboro looneys is to out picket them.

if anyone I knew was going to have these looney's picketing their funeral, i would simply make it public and invite everyone i knew. then you'd get a buffer of 200 people between these losers and the funeral.

The Phelps clan have always been a hateful bunch. It's worth checking out the BBC documentary mentioned earlier (the Louis one) as well as the book, Addicted to Hate. It's a good look at how much an abusive parent can screw up his kids/family.

If anything, I feel sad for the younger members of the Phelps family, since they've been brainwashed and abused since birth.

I visit another forum and when this group visits a town where a member is located,group members go out and picket along with them.But their signs are mocking the Baptist picketers. People will hold up signs that read "God hates my sign" or they'll stand next to some one with a sign bashing homosexuals with another sign reading "<----- Loves c*ck" basically making signs to embarrass the Baptists

They are disgusting people. The fact that they call themselves a "church" is reprehensible. As a Christian myself, I can say that there is NO WAY they represent my beliefs. Every time I hear about them I want to vomit.

Bill O'Reilly said he would pay for the court fees for the grieving father, so that he would not have to bear the trouble of coming up with the money. O'Reilly isn't my favorite guy, but I do respect him as a person.

I love how WBC thinks gays are destroying families and our country, but it's people like them that really get the attention and cause issues. Honestly, they make America look bad - not gays.

I am a Christian. I am a Baptist. I even have moral objections to certain lifestyle decisions that people make (and those objections are not exclusive to homosexuality). I also will not claim perfection in my life, so fully understand the universal nature of sin -- even if certain sins are not my sin of choice.

However, this guy is neither Christian, nor Baptist. He is a first-class knob, and does more harm than good to the faith he supposedly represents. No Christian would besmirch the name of Christ with hate-filled rants and funeral protests. I attend the largest Baptist Church in this country (Second Baptist Church, Houston), and would dare say that you will not find a SINGLE Baptist among our 50,000 members that would agree with this tool.

To be a fly on the wall on the day he sits before the Almighty would be interesting.
