It's true... And I hate that people are like that. I wish we could just let some of our insecurities die, so we can move on as a people.

I applaud your choice, it takes guts to say that and to stick to your guns. :rock

Believe me when I say I get ^^^^ for it every time. :lol

The sad part is people are just too traditional for my liking. It's the reason we won't have a woman president for a loooooooong time and also the reason Obama will suffer. We would rather have a white guy in that office- why because that's just the way it needs to be. Why are all president's religious? Why do most to all of them have military experience? Why are all of them filthy rich? Some may say those are the qualities we need in a leader but I strongly believe it's just because of tradition and people feel the most comfortable keeping things the way they are. Rocking the boat might mean they can fall off.

It's this way with so many other things in life.

You obviously have a very romantic view of marriage which it can be but you can't have marriage without the contract which brings in my side.

You don't need a contract to marry. You obtain a license for legal purposes. That's not remotely the same thing. The rest of your post merely reinforces my previous entry.

I do 100% support SEPARATE bank accounts.
We pick which bills each pays and dont mix our $$$.

This should be the case no matter if you're married or not. I've heard too many horror stories over the years of people losing all their money due to their partner wiping out the bank account.

No it doesn't. A license binds you. You get married and you will have to sign up. You want out of this "non-contract" then you need to file papers and seek legal console.

You are grasping at straws here now. You must admit love is not what marriage is, especially not alone. you can be a romantic about all of this but at the end of the day, if you get married there are both financial and legal contracts present and these contracts are just as important in the foundation as love is.

Where's the love? Isn't that what marriage is all about? Why is it considered selfish to not protect yourself against something like this?

My wife hasn't gotten fat. Our love life is better after ten years of marriage than ever before. I love my kids.

So the negative statements listed above aren't as universal as one might think.

I know Tom, it was a stereo type used to stir up some conversation.

I often use the term fat too often. My apologies.

Let's take a poll and see, shall we? I am willing to bet the vast majority of people in this thread married for love and no other reason.

As to your misunderstanding of the difference between contracts and licenses, well, I can only assume you don't drive.

Love exists inside and outside of marriage so I wouldn't say that marriage is all about love (though it is a driving factor for many that do get married). And I've not heard anyone claim that having a separate bank account was a selfish act.
