I love Star Wars but I still keep in mind that its not mine, I didn't write it and I have no control over it. Some people act like if Lucas took something away from them and violated the hell out of it. As much as I hate to say it, its his and he has the right to violate it as much as he wants. It was never really ours guys, some of us just got delusions of grandeur attached to it.

I don't have nearly so cynical a mindset on Ashoka's creation.

It's cynical. But it also is what it is. I was privy to some of the discussions early on, having been doing freelance work over there at the time. Hint: there's a reason I've used the term "the Hannah Montana segment" in this topic before. I didn't coin that term in relation to Ashoka. It came straight from Marin County.

And yet, despite that, Khev's point was right on the money. She does add the same dynamic to Obi and Anakin, that Leia did to Luke and Han. A dynamic that was sorely missing in the PT.

Anyone else find it ironic that all the old-timers who worship the OT are the most mean spirited and childish in regards to this topic? I'd expect some of this banter from a 13 year old, not from people over the age of 35! Come on guys, let's have a mature and civil discussion. If any age owns the saga it's mine (34) since I was born in 1977 when ANH was released! 1977 has to represent!! :lecture:rotfl

I don't think calling people "mean spirited" and "childish" encourages the "civil discussion" you claim to want. As a matter of fact I don't think any of these arbitrary divisions (PT fan, OT purist) are in any way conducive to actually discussing the merits of the movies.

My problem with the PT is that it doesn't do enough to link up with the OT in a meaningful way. The most obvious problem is the over use of CGI. The OT universe is not a pristine looking place. It has a used, gritty feel to it that was lost in the PT. I think it should have been filmed on location with real sets just like the original.

Additionally, there are too many things that are explained in the PT that don't need to be explained (Midi chlorians, force ghosts). Conversely, there are so many missed opportunities to explain plot holes in the OT (why was Luke able to train for three weeks and go toe to toe with Vader who had been a Jedi for 30 some years? Why was Luke "hidden" on his home planet under his real last name?)

I don't hate the PT and never have. It's frustrating because there were alot of missed opportunities (Darth Maul, Liam Niasson playing Obi-wan and McGregor playing Anakin etc. etc.) but I'm just glad to have Star Wars back. And for all the missed opportunties in the PT there are alot of great things like the Darth Maul battle, Mace Windu, the Seige of the Jedi Temple and so on.

I think of the PT as existing in an alternate universe. Things are similar to the OT but they don't quite match up. I think the same thing about the CW series. As individual sagas, the OT the PT and CW are all great. However, trying to make them one whole story just doesn't work for me.

I was mostly joking around. I also don't really think people born in 1977 'own' the saga. Nobody owns the saga as much as they like to think it. Just bringing some levity to this heated debate.

Not really. At the time Lucas thought that's all he was gonna get. That's why Chewbacca's Han's copilot. He wanted the end of the movieto take place on the Wookie planet but the story got chopped and he was so afraid we wouldn't get to see Wookies that he wrote him in the first.

Star Wars is slow, because it is slow. When it was written, there were plot points for other parts of the story, but nothing else, let alone "5 movies."

That really doesn't have anything to do with what I posted. I never said ANH had all five movies in mind. That makes no sense. ANH introduces the veiwer to the basic principles of the Star Wars universe. First movies that break new ground conceptually usually have alot of main characters sitting around explaining things. Which is why they can seem slow at times. Most of the first hour and a half of the Matrix is Morpheus explaing to Neo/the audience what the Matrix is, why they have certain powers in the matrix and so on. That's what I mean when I say ANH is structurally designed as a first movie. It doesn't assume the audience knows anything about the universe, whereas Episode 1 assumes the audience does and gets right to the action.

You counter your own argument bringing in Matrix. That was always intended to be a trilogy. Star Wars was stripped to be a stand alone movie. And I disagree about Episode 1. You're introduced to the Jedi and the Sith, the principles of the Force, etc. Lucas literally holds your hand through Episode 1, introducing you to the universe vs. Star Wars which condensed the whole ideal into a single scene with Obi Wan and Luke.

But that's not at all why she was created, which is my point.

I don't think anybody's arguing that bud. I'd even be surprised if that had anything to do with her creation at all initially as it's pretty common knowledge that she was created to make Star Wars more appealing to the younger girls. But despite all of that, she does fit that need nicely.

:lecture Right. Marketing ploy, simple as that. She makes everyone seem like a retard, including the main characters, she's smarter than everyone else, removes the balls of the clones, basically she is Scrappy Doo mixed with a crappy version of Wesley Crusher. She adds nothing, the only way for her character to redeem herself is to die. Which she won't. If she died she'd actually serve a purpose story wise. Rex and Ahsoka should eat it, just for Anakin's character progression. She is no Leia NAM, and she doesn't in any way bring any kind of dynamic to the story. Just another calculated move by the machine. I am not above enjoying entertainment for all ages, but this ____ panders. A lot. And to answer the question in this thread, OT the PT. And if you hate your children the CGI CW and the Holiday Special. :lol

Pretty close. Closer still would be the "Lucas raped my childhood I'll now hate Star Wars forever *whisper* but I still buy everything that comes out because that ____ing Lucas is holding a gun to my head" crowd

:goodpost: A lot of Hasbro completists come off like that. Weird.

You obviously aren't very familiar with the show then. She's been put in her place more than a few times, in fact her foolishness caused half a squadron of Clone fighter pilots to die in one episode. Of course, the fact that you imply that there's a non-crappy version of Wesley Crusher negates anything you have to say anyway. ;)

Yeah, seen both seasons and her character is pretty decent and has evolved into something worth having in the saga. She may have been created for one reason but has turned into something else. The CW show is awesome people hating on it probably haven't watched a single episode.
