Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

Superman the Motion Picture has characters and themes that have resonated through the years. There's literally nothing in that film that anyone from any time period couldn't understand and relate too. It's a charming, visually impressive, well acted film. And if you understand the significance of the film itself, when it came out, what it meant, it's even more impressive with the visual effects.

I have very little reason to watch MoS again. I found the film hard to watch. I connected with none of the characters, and didn't really enjoy watching our hero.

There's no goddamn conspiracy. Superman The Motion Picture is a good, solid movie. It has dated effects....but so what? Like I said, soon Man of Steel is going to look dated, and i'm sure the tone will be someday soon.

The age of the dark dour hero flicks will be a long forgotten era of film. It's just going happen.

I find Superman The Movie hard to watch. Don't get me wrong, I love Reeve as Clark/Superman but my biggest issue is it's multiple different styles and tones. And yes, I know what Donner was going for with his "verisimilitude" approach or whatever he called it, but It's like it can't decide if it wants to be campy, serious, dramatic, or a comedy. One minute we get the young smallville Clark Kent trying to figure out who he is ( with the fortress of solitude scenes etc.) and the next minute we get the campy "gee willikers" Daily planet Clark Kent and not to mention the ridiculously acted Gene Hackman Luthor, and his retarded partner Otis. Man of Steel at least accomplished what it set out to do, it made Superman cool again.

Oh and Margot Kidder is gross. :lol

Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

I'm good. I really am. Unless if that Directors cut adds in some actual character development, I probably won't watch Man of Steel more then one more time.

Oh I'm not REALLY calling you out on an individual level. If it wasn't your thing that's cool. But I think time will be good to this movie. It ain't no Independence Day.

But if MoS 2 is simply a remake of MoS with a more powerful evil Kryptonian coming to Earth in search of Kal-El AGAIN just so they can re-enact all the same scenes from MoS then yeah, it'll suck just as much as T2. ;)

Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

Admittedly I've only seen MOS once. Just, it didn't make me want to see it again in any kind of hurry.

Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

It wants to be campy when it needs too, and serious when it needs too.

There's nothing funny about Lois' death scene. There's nothing funny about Superman almost dying because Luthor is a ruthless *******.

But there are a ton of comedic scenes because this was the first real Superhero movie. People couldn't take it seriously regardless. It's perfect for it's time.

T2: Judgement Day bettered Terminator in every department.

FACT

And Gene Hackman as Luthor in the first film is gold, it's all the sequels and uses of Lex that ran it through the dirt. The land scheming got old. And who doesn't love Otis, Ms. Teschmacher and the "villain theme"? Otis was a retard, that was the point!

I think time will be quite cruel to it. There will be a point in time where 9/11 isn't embedded in the minds of our society, and it will be hard for them to watch these films that are filled with 9/11 mentalities, symbolism, and images.

Yeah I don't see terrorism going away anytime soon, unfortunately. People are always going to be up for good guys slamming evil into next week.

With all it's bells and whistles, T2 wasn't a patch on the storytelling and originality of T1.

Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

As you put it to me in the DX13 thread RE: Enterbay VS DX13 why does one have to top the other? They are both excellent films.

I love both movies, but for different reasons. As a classic movie, I think T1 outshines T2 though which is more of a visual showcase.

Their places are interchangeable. Can't go wrong with ranking either 1 or 2.

And the Humor also works.... It would be different if we were talking about Jar Jar Binks campy... I love that Luthor is such a wanted criminal that he is forced underground and can only recruit Otis... The interaction between both is great.... Having said that, I can fully understand why fans of the comic might HATE that version of Lex.

I think time will be quite cruel to it.

Hey that is what I said about IM3!!!!!!! I think that time will be kinder to MoS then IM3.

I think MoS will never be considered a classic... But there is potential for the sequels to hit that status.

With all it's bells and whistles, T2 wasn't a patch on the storytelling and originality of T1.

I hated reeve as Clark kent

I find that Superman: The Movie is the only version of Superman that seems to go out of it's way to make him seem at least somewhat unrecognizable when he is Clark Kent..

Sure he is campy and all "gee willikers" but there was at least more of an attempt to make him different then just a suit and a pair of glasses.. He changes his voice, the structure of his speech and the way that he stood and moved. I know Superman being Kent is Iconic and must always be this way.... I would not want it any other way. I appreciate that STM tried to actually make this plausible.

I actually giggled at the end of MoS because here they are trying to make a serious Superman film and Cavell just puts on the glasses at the end of the film and looks just like Superman with glasses.

Perhaps I was supposed to laugh.

As far as Superman being "cool" again... Well is being boring is "cool" then MISSION ACCOMPLISHED ;) :)
