Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

The only thing I hate is seeing this trend of ripping T2 in favor of the original. It's really only on this message board too.
I don't know about the Hate... I found T2 disappointing the first time I saw it... Some of that had to do with my expectations being though the roof and the GnR you "Could be Mine" video showing all the good parts. I found it overly long and non intense. I did not like the humor and did not care for John Conner..
I've always pretty much loved both equally (for different reasons) then I see the crap comments hurled T2's way about it being a rehash and having a "good" T-800 and it makes me question, "well, the first is really that much better?"
I tend to bring up the rehash bit because of the T2 fans who claim it was so much better the original... Other then updated effects the remake IMO matches nothing in the original...
Couldn't we easily say those that put The Terminator on a pedestal are wearing nostalgia rose tinted glasses? That they're trying to get "Internet street cred" for liking a "classic" original. I've been accused of that with Robocop, Batman 1989, T2 and the original Superman. "Oh it's the nostalgia".
Perhaps it's because I am a bit older... Many of the films you mentioned I saw when I was older... so the child part goes out the window... However why anyone would give you crap about Robocop is beyond me... That film still holds up very well.
The Original is great because it is a straight forward, dark, horror thriller.. It was original, it had so many brutal classic moments. Like I said, you really can't compare the T2 target practice scene with the T1 police station massacre. You have punching through the guys gut, "Sarah Connor" "Yes" Bam, "I'll be Back" and the he comes back with a car through the front door, the big revel of the T-800 (Much better then the silver surfer T2), Kyle Reese, Lance Henrickson, Franco Columbo as the future Terminator,..... I mean it just had it all. Sure the effects are dated but if I judged every film on dated effects then that would really limit my enjoyment of movies INCLUDING T2.
For me it's not just that T2 rehashed so much of T1.. It just did not do it as well. The Terminators first appearance in T2 are non exciting and played for laughs, the mall chase is no Tech Nor.. The truck chase is cool when he crashes through the bridge but otherwise it's another standard car chase (T1 car chases were not all that special either) I never cared for the going after Miles Dyson and destroying the chip and arm part.. Brings the film to a crawl... Should I be rooting for the T-1000 to kill the annoying kid? The Scene were the twpo big guys come over to help him when he screaming only to then insult them makes me wish the T-800 would just take him over his knee or shoot him right there. Again the target practice scene is OK and cool but it's no Police station scene... The Final It's bigger and more expensive truck chase so it must be better is again standard. Give me the T-800 chase in the factory over the T-1000 also. "I need a vacation", "I know now why you cry", THUMBS UP! Give me a break!
Now It sounds like I have nothing good to say about T2... Well let me say that the T-1000 is pretty cool. Robert Patrick brought a super coolness to his part. The Story is still interesting, The Extended version is better. Much better due to the fact it explained the emotion chip... I hated the t-800 emotional parts in the T2.. I still don't love them but at least it makes sense. Cameron sure can shoot a nice looking film.... Arnold was Great.. Most of his comedic moments work ( down low t0o slow reaction The Smile part in the extended version is brilliant)
So While I am being hard on T2 I would still give it a solid 7.5 out of 10 while the original is a classic 10 out 10 for me.
A lot of us were kids in the 80s, early 90s, maybe the love for the first is just some childhood bull**** where are parents let us watch a rated R movie for the first time and it had Arnold in his prime pulling his eye ball out and shooting cops. That was partially the case for me when I was a kid.
I think the love for T2 has more to do with Childhood bull**** personally. It is a more kid friendly film after all.
I like both, but any time I see, "T2 sucks" for superficial reasons, I question what makes T1 better. It's outdated visual effects like the Arnold puppet? A cheesy, 80s song soundtrack? Brad Fiedel's inferior techno piano/string score (compared to T2's beautiful composition). I have a problem finding what makes the original superior other than it being the original. That and "well da tewminato was a bad dood who shot peoplz and we see Sarah's ittybitties."
I much prefer the original Brad Fidel soundtrack.. The Bum Bum Bum Bum.. Heart beat is classic and the percussive main theme outmatch anything in T2 IMO. And I am not sure anything is as dated as the "Used in every film Bad to the Bone" Song. Christine was the only movie that used it right and I think that might be because it was the first.
I basically explained how I felt about T2 so I wont go o again about it.. However Why is T2 so much better or even it's equal other then "Arnold is the good guy and the bad guy can turn to liquid and it has more things that go boom!"
In fact I don' know if I have ever seen the arguments you just tried to say people make for T1..
Here's one.. Other then the ****ty actor they got to play John Connor in the 3rd one.. Why is that one hated on so much... The action in that was top notch and it was basically just another rehash of the first two. I never see anything about that film other then Blah... I hate it...Oh and Talk to the Hand!
Yes T2 is better I am not saying that... I am just always surprised by the hate but I never hear why.
