That again would come down to whether I'm in the mood for good Arnie or bad Arnie. Both are great scenes. Come to think of it I wonder what the police in T2 would have made of it, the fact he didn't kill anyone this time. I mean as far as they were concerned this was the same guy that killed 17 men in 1984.

BS...many cops have military experience...It would be virtually impossible not to kill anyone with that gun hand held with folks so close together...

Police Station Shootout is an all time classic moment in Sci Fi History.. There is no comparison.. You are basically watching Arnie just shoot at cars... That is not all that exciting.. Is this really even debatable??

Glad I'm not the only one. T2 slaughtered T1 in every category. Its just cool to like T1 more because it was the first one and it was this smaller budget sci-fi/horror movie. That and Arnie is a bad guy.Don't get me wrong, plenty love T1 more just because,well, they just liked it more. But I bet there is plenty out there that say they like it more because of the reasons I mentioned above. Its cool to like the "darker" one.

You're right. My mistake. Clearly the police must have instantly assumed that the cop killer firing a minigun at their cars had suddenly learned the value of human life.

at best they would say it's a miracle at that moment....because they should be dead...afterwards they would say how the f did that guy miss us and hit only the vehicles...etc..only the ego moron cop would say otherwise...

I hate the whole "People like it because it's cool" Argument... T1 has always been a popular film... It has always been loved. Many of the reasons you listed people liking it for the "coolness" of it is exactly why it is a better film

It is the first one - T2 was basically a remake.. Down to the Highway chase and final factory scene

It's a Sci Fi/ horror film - Yep... Much more intense then T2

Arnie is the bad guy - He is so great in T1... I like my Terminators joke free!!

It's Darker - What is wrong with liking it for all of these reasons more then the family friendly T2 version. T2 has it's place place in Sci fi history but to act like T1 has a large number of fans just because it's "cool" to like it is like me saying T2 only has fans because it had Liquid Metal.. Take that away and what have you got... Two robots, an annoying kid, an annoying mom, and the same story as T1.

For the record I like T2.. Second best of the series...But a far cry from T1 IMO.

So imagine them getting the Criminal Minds team on this one. Unsub kills 17 police in 1984 and is probably responsible for the Sarah Connor phonebook murders aswell. Sighted again in 1995 and suddenly is only wounding people.

Actually I wonder if the Sarah Connor chronicles mentions it. Haven't watched that show since it aired.

Unless you can get into someone's mind, there is no telling if it's true or not.

I can say that people just hate on T3 and T4 because it's cool to hate them.

In some cases I bet I am right... But not enough to declare it a legit argument for the films.

This is the first time I have heard this argument when talking about T1... I think T1 is a great enough film to avoid any "I like it to be cool" arguments.

T1 and T2 are totally different films, like Alien and Aliens. I like T1 and Alien more cause I enjoy those types of moves more. T2 and Aliens are great action films, but if I could only watch one it would the originals. Like Rambo one and two, both good but for different reasons.

Sucker Punch seems like a pretty bad movie were the majority don't like it... You sure that people only like that so they can feel cool

I get the problems with TDKR.... I don't get the hate.

I loved Prometheus when I first saw it... Second viewing went down a bit... But that was because of all the plot holes everyone pointed out... I should have stayed away from the forums with that one

Avatar - Meh.... I do feel cool for not like that one... As I was not fooled by the great 3D into thinking it was a great film... It's OK and that's about it. Curious to see how the sequels do.

MoS - Very few Hate the film... But many are disappointed.


I find the Hate it to be cool statement to be more true for music...

Bands like Creed and Nickleback get lots of hate.... But someone bought those damn albums.

The only thing I hate is seeing this trend of ripping T2 in favor of the original. It's really only on this message board too.

I've always pretty much loved both equally (for different reasons) then I see the crap comments hurled T2's way about it being a rehash and having a "good" T-800 and it makes me question, "well, the first is really that much better?"

Couldn't we easily say those that put The Terminator on a pedestal are wearing nostalgia rose tinted glasses? That they're trying to get "Internet street cred" for liking a "classic" original. I've been accused of that with Robocop, Batman 1989, T2 and the original Superman. "Oh it's the nostalgia".

A lot of us were kids in the 80s, early 90s, maybe the love for the first is just some childhood bull**** where are parents let us watch a rated R movie for the first time and it had Arnold in his prime pulling his eye ball out and shooting cops. That was partially the case for me when I was a kid.


I like both, but any time I see, "T2 sucks" for superficial reasons, I question what makes T1 better. It's outdated visual effects like the Arnold puppet? A cheesy, 80s song soundtrack? Brad Fiedel's inferior techno piano/string score (compared to T2's beautiful composition). I have a problem finding what makes the original superior other than it being the original. That and "well da tewminato was a bad dood who shot peoplz and we see Sarah's ittybitties."

I do enjoy both, but if the two dvds were sitting there 9/10 times I would pop in T2. I have no shame in saying that I'm an action nut and T2 to me is the epitome of 90's action blockbuster with a beast of a score and amazing set pieces. People forget how ground breaking the T1000 cgi was at the time also.
