Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

There are definitely a lot of people who will vote for MoS because its new or because they weren't born when STM came out and it doesn't resonate with them at a particularly deep level, or those that simply don't care much for Superman either way so will default to the one with bigger and better eye candy. In that regard its not a huge surprise that MoS is leading in votes.

But there are also those who will simply vote for STM because its "iconic" and the proper thing to do to maintain "internet street cred." You know who you are. ;)

Sure there are enough people who were genuinely put off by MoS (and will probably belabor the erroneous notion that he caused innumerable loss of innocent lives for the next year now) or who just didn't like it much at all for whatever reason, but I honestly believe that a lot of you who voted for STM would still choose MoS to watch if they were both playing simultaneously on basic cable and you had to take that "Pepsi challenge" in the privacy of your own home while no one was watching. So show everyone how your love of the "classics" refuses to waver, but we know how it really is. :p

Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

Superman the Motion Picture has characters and themes that have resonated through the years. There's literally nothing in that film that anyone from any time period couldn't understand and relate too. It's a charming, visually impressive, well acted film. And if you understand the significance of the film itself, when it came out, what it meant, it's even more impressive with the visual effects.

I have very little reason to watch MoS again. I found the film hard to watch. I connected with none of the characters, and didn't really enjoy watching our hero.

There's no goddamn conspiracy. Superman The Motion Picture is a good, solid movie. It has dated effects....but so what? Like I said, soon Man of Steel is going to look dated, and i'm sure the tone will be someday soon.

The age of the dark dour hero flicks will be a long forgotten era of film. It's just going happen.

I don't know who I am. Do you include me in this? I voted STM. :D

I agree, it's just that easy.

actually quite the opposite, the age of heroic friendly good guys in movies is passing and fast.
look at all attempts at reviving classic good guys- indiana jones failed to recapture audience, superman returns failed the same... you may say well the marvel films are light in tone, but not really, they are just covered up in bright shades but the underlying tones are as dark as what dc have been doing. and also coming from the film industry , i can tell you its not just a trend to make films close in tone and feel to our everyday ways, we aim to connect the audience to the characters on screen or at least the events and worlds we show you, we also mold everything around whats in demand and works , so the dark toned films are at least going to be on screen for another 4 to 6 years before they start to fade.
Look at everything around you right now on tv , movies and even video games, it all has an undertone of dark and realism to some extend, more then ever presented.

And soon that will be gone. And there will be something else to keep us interested.

It's definitely a trend. It's a post 9/11 cynical angry trend. I think The Avengers was one of most non cynical movies I've seen in a very, very long time. It was refreshing.

That post didn't really even deserve a facepalm, it wasn't even anti-Man of Steel really. I thought it was a nice, well, thought out post. :huh

Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

Yep, like I said, its all about "internet street cred." :lol

You think a current movie is more entertaining than an old one? You must not be able to spell or understand "classic charm." :duh

Shaddup. You're gonna watch Supes punching Zod through buildings way more than "Can You Read My Mind" aerial poetry and you know it.

Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

Oh that scene with Lois Lane's inner monologue is crappy, no doubt. I'd rather see Superman punch puppies and break necks than that crap.

But overall, EHHHHHHHHH REEVE > CAVILL, '78 > MOS, WILLIAMS > HANS GRUBER, SUPER HEROIC > ANGSTY HERO, TRUTH, JUSTICE AND THE AMERICAN WAY > POST 9/11 GRIM DARK SATELLITE PUNCHER

Man of Steel is still exciting and fresh though. Still better than Superman Returns (even though SR has DAT THEME and Luthor kicking Supes *** was pretty kewl).

I like them both. How about that!

Does not compute. Sideshowfreaks message board error.

Like you prefer to watch the T-800 punching through T-1000's head with CGI coolness over the classic charm of T1? :wink1:

I'm good. I really am. Unless if that Directors cut adds in some actual character development, I probably won't watch Man of Steel more then one more time.
