Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

Ooooh, I like lists. Lists are nice.
I'll make one of my own.

Greatest Sci-Fi films ever:

1. 2001: A Space Odyssey
2. Blade Runner
3. Alien
4. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
5. Matrix
6. Planet of the Apes ('68)
7. Star Wars (ANH)
8. The Man Who Fell to Earth
9. Solaris('02)
10. A Clockwork Orange

There's many more, and other than the first three, not necessarily in any order.

Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

Yeah I reworded my post because I wasn't sure it made perfect sense.

Total agreement on the top three! :duff

Mine would be more like:

1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. Star Wars
3. ALIENS
4. Robocop
5. Prometheus (yep)
6. Return of the Jedi
7. The Terminator
8. District 9
9. The Matrix
10. ALIEN

No T2 cracking the top 10 for me.

Nice list.. I love Robocop but there is something about it that makes me never want to watch it... When I do I always say "Great film.. Why don't I want to ever watch it" :lol

No issues with Prometheus... I loved the overall look and feel of the film.

Luckily I did not see Avatar on there before you took it off... Would have got the pitchforks out on you!! ;)

I was going to put Clockwork Orange on my list but was not sure if people would consider it Sci Fi..

I have a thread of my top Hundred on this board somewhere... I wonder how much it has changed.. I love the list... My only issue is The Man Who Fell to Earth... I hated it when I saw it but that was a loooooong time ago.. Perhaps I should give it another shot.

Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

I wish I could have seen how lil' Khev was feeling the summer of '91. I bet he loved every minute of it just like lil' DiFabio

I was 17, not so little. And yeah I loved it. I've always contended that it was great entertainment in 1991 that sadly didn't stand the test of time.

:lol I was actually struggling to come up with a 10th sci-fi film and figured, "uh, Avatar I guess." Even now I feel like I might still be forgetting a big one or two.

But The Terminator stands the test of time with it's mirror puppet effects, stop motion (ED-209 was way better in my opinion, Tippett was a beast with the AT-AT, ED, and Dinos), and it's crappy 80s soundtrack which featured pretty much unknown artists? That doesn't seem very fair.

I still love the Terminator, everything about it, but how does it stand the test of time but T2 doesn't? The prosthetics for the damage Arnold sustains is waaaaay more believable in T2 than in T1. I'm sure if Stan Winston were here, he'd agree that the second was a much better effort. The CGI of the T-1000 still looks great. The acting, all top notch, even from secondary characters (like the Pescadero staff).

We can rip John Connor and 90s gallerias, but 80s clubbin' Sarah and her perms with Photoplay in the background is a-ok? Ginger and Matt are really better actors that have better scenes than Janelle and Todd Voight? The T-800 is really scarier than the T-1000?

I mean yeah, let's say T2 is a rehash (I agree, the arrivals, chases and climaxes of both are completely similar), but T2 covered new ground. We got to see John Connor, Skynet, Miles Dyson. We got to see where Sarah went in the first film (Enrique's camp). The whole concept of changing the future with the "No Fate" plot was entirely new that was only hinted at in a deleted scene for the first film. Even T-1000 was revolutionary and a fantastic villain, dare I say topping the first T-800 villain from the first film.

Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

Effects have never affected my opinion on a movie. Ever. The effects worked for when it came out. Story and Character are more important.

Yeah, same here. I look at them as they were in the context of when they were made, not of what's currently out there.

But when I see, "stood the test of time", what else can that possibly mean? How does Terminator hold up more than T2? It's story? If T2 is a rehash of the first, then shouldn't T2 hold up just as well? It's just baffling.

If we're going to be judgmental (heh), Terminator looks like complete crap next to T2, budgets and time gaps be damned. Then the acting. Arnold and Linda in the first is better than the second? Really?

Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

It means do the characters, stories, and themes hold up today. And the answer is yes.

But then again, i'm not comparing. I like T1 better. But that;'s personal preference.

Exactly.

So how does T2 not hold up, especially in this day and age?

If anything, it holds up even better than T1 with the subplot of Dyson, his family and Cyberdyne Systems. The theatrical version of the first never had the pan up to show that the factory Sarah and Kyle ran in was Cyberdyne. We never saw the two CS guys finding the chip or Sarah and Kyle planning to raid the factory to possibly prevent the future. T2 covered that new ground.

Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

I don't know. I can't answer that because I don't have an irrational hatred of T2 :lol

I think T2 holds up fine... It was a 7.5 out of 10 when it first came out it's a 7.5 out of 10 today.

Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

I don't think I've ever rated a film before. Why the 0.5? What stops it from becoming an 8 or a 7? What if one day, someone gets in a T2 mood on a good day and gets into it more than they normally would?

Never understood ranking either. My tops are constantly changing. Think of all the great films out there. Why do people obsess and limit themselves to "only 5", or "only 10". Why the need to categorize? What about the great films that we've seen that aren't on our mind at the moment? Can't we just like what we like depending on "the feels"? It depends entirely on mood and feelings right? Wouldn't those obsessive lists constantly change around? We don't always have "Godfather" or "Robocop" or whatever it is on our brains 24/7 do we?

I love Batman and The Dark Knight, but that **** will get old if I watch it/think about it constantly, same with their soundtracks. They can never be the almighty #1.

Same with Lord of the Rings, or Shawshank Redemption, or Raiders or Alien, or Terminator or the hundreds of other films I love. There's a certain mindset I have to be in for the things to be relevant to my particular tastes at the moment, no matter how many times I've seen them.

Unless someone is autistic and focused on one damn thing, constantly watching it, constantly discussing it, etc. I don't see how anyone doesn't have a list of favorites that's constantly rotating places, if they have a list at all. For me it's like a plane travel destination board, the times are always changing in what I'm in the mood for. The past two weeks I've been on a Superman kick because of MOS. Watched Superman I and II again after not seeing them in awhile, been listening to the soundtrack, non stop, I'm really into it. Next month it'll be something different, but my feelings for Supes will still be there for next time.
