Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

There is only one perfect movie for me.

Raiders.

Why no ESB you're asking? (no one is really asking. :lol)

Because it needs SW to make it go from a 9 to a 10.

Raiders needs no one!

Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

Did you pay attention to a single word out of John's mouth the entire movie? He preaches to Arnold, he preaches to his mom, he teaches robots about crying and then his mom recaps the whole thing at the end. We got it Jim. Killing bad. Blowing off kneecaps and crippling for life good. Thanks. Can we get back to The Terminator now?

So the future leader of mankind expressing concern over other people's lives is a bad thing? Especially in a future post-apocalyptic world where machines rule the world? Hmmmmmm.

First time Connor says it is when the Terminator is about to cap that black guy. Not before, not after. Before that, John is a punk. He's amazed and upset that his mom was actually telling the truth and wasn't a psycho. That all this time he didn't even trust his own mom. Then these guys come by and the Terminator almost lays them to waste. He introduces the concept and has the T-800 swear.

The second time he mentions killing is when they're going to stop Sarah from terminate Dyson. The Terminator states that killing him might actually prevent the war. John asks him if he's learned anything yet and that you can't just go around killing people. John is right. Dyson is the same victim character that Sarah was in the first film. He has no idea how important his actions are to the future.

The third time is a quick scene where John is concerned that the Terminator is going to go out there and "take care of the cops". The Terminator, learning everything he's been taught, reassures him with that grin (that he also learned).

When does Sarah talk about Terminator killing? All she mentions at the end and during the Enrique desert camp scene is how the T-800 is a more suitable father figure for John than a human being. How it'd never hurt him and be there for him. How a machine can understand the human condition and that hopefully, people can too. Do you not remember the scene with the two kids at the truck stop fighting and pointing their guns at each other? "It's human nature to destroy yourselves". Sarah never mentions killing.

I don't constitute that as "preaching". Three times? Oh yeah, that's just so self-righteous and preachy. You just seem to have a problem with it because "omg, arnold isn't killing people like a badazz", sending his fist through chests and pulling out hearts (which is cool in it's own right). That's what you seem to be all caught up in.

Also, the Terminator himself never partakes in these human emotions. He doesn't cry, he doesn't feel, etc. He just learns and understands them. That's all. It's still unstoppable (unlike the first) and follows through with it's mission (unlike the first).

T2 has way more humanity and heart than the first. It's about the human condition, about machines not being inherently evil but how they're utilized, etc. Unless you're deeply touched by the first film's love story between Sarah and Reese and their whoopie making at the Tiki Motel, I find it hard to believe you see more humanity in the first or if that is even any concern of yours other than killer cyborgs shooting at people.

As for Avatar, sounds like you like that for superficial reasons (despite mentioning the same things for T2 and T3 like CGI, splosions, TX bewbs, etc). I guess I don't get it. I guess I never will.

Yes, T2 and T3 are basically the same. T3 just goes ever so slightly further. If T3 came out in 1991 instead of T2 it would have gotten the exact same reaction and been the exact same monster hit, and would probably still be considered to be "better than T1 in every way" because the TX is hot, the orchestra sounded better, the crane truck caused more destruction and the CG was more advanced. :monkey1

I hated the orchestral version of the Terminator theme. It just didn't suit at all. Synthesisers is where its at for this franchise.

Well, if T3 is a retread of T2 that makes T2 'the original' of the two and as such....is innately superior by the logic some would have us form our views by?

I don't know about 'innately' but it definitely is superior. The story has more depth and heart, the humour and one liners have plausibility within the actual story as opposed to superficially just being there because its what was expected after T2.

But Terminator doesn't kill or maim, so it's bad by default.

When he does it in an out of character manner that sounds more like the director preaching to me than him speaking organically, yeah, its not good. This wasn't Rick Grimes shouting, "we don't kill the living!" it was Cameron on his soapbox. Not interested. If you thought "You just can't go around killing people, you just can't" was William Wallace material great, have fun with it.

Everything that came out of the characters' mouths in T1 sounded like something people might actually say in those situations. If you don't get it, well, I'm sorry for your loss. :nana:

Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

Nah, I'm sorry for your loss. I think both of them are superb. The original is fantastic and the second is a great follow up. You're the one that's missing out.

And what's with this Walking Dead crap? :lol

Is it because Gale Hurd produced? You gotta hard on for her or something? I guess I can sort of see why you wouldn't like T2, she wasn't involved. Cameron dropped her for Hamilton. Is that it?

I mean, Walking Dead is about a man (Rick) trying to get back to his family. It's about survival and about loss with faith thrown in. The show thrives on character relationships. It's a zombie television show. It's based on a successful comic.

Terminator is about two time travelers sent back to destroy/protect the future. The future in this case being a young woman. Both of the unborn enemies inadvertently create each other by sending the time travelers through time. It's a sci-fi, horror, love story. It's about the dark sides of technology. It's a cyborg film. It's based on the nightmares of a Canadian truck driver turned director.

Other than post-apocalyptic visions, Gale Hurd tagging along to produce, there are no similarities. Unless there's some crazy, contrived thing I'm missing.

I forget what it was, but you did the same crazy thing when you were talking about classics and dissing Batman '89. Some weird *** comparison between how you'd rank Fellowship along side of Raiders of the Lost Ark or Jaws or some ****. I dunno. You get caught up on "classics" and "street cred", but when it comes to things like Superman '78 or T2 or Batman '89, they don't count? I just don't know and I'm sort of trying to understand where you're at here.

Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

I'm gonna have to find Superman 3 and 4 actually. I haven't seen 3 in donkeys years and I don't think I've seen 4 at all, least not in full.

Nah, I'm sorry for your loss. I think both of them are superb..

Yeah technically the loss is for the T2-critics. We've got 2 great films and they have just the one.

Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

Damn, I think DiFabio's Terminator posts are even better than his Batman posts.

How iz dis possible.

Re: Which Superman Movie is your favorite Superman movie?

TDKR does have a better villain though.....

No I couldn't keep a straight face on that one. :lol

3 is worth a gander, don't even try to watch 4.

Hell, not even 3 anymore.

But forget Superman, all this Terminator talk has got me revisiting T1/T2.
