Before you tell me just to go and look, I have and I'm more confused than before.

Is plasma pretty much a dead technology?

Which brand?

I'm looking for something in the 40-42 inch range for my bedroom that will be paired up with a PS3 and probably a soundbar system. Vizio has some decent TVs with reasonable prices, but I'm not sure if the picture is up to par with Samsung, Sony, and the like.

Any recommendations?

I thought it was LCD that was a dead technology. I have one and soon to be 2 Samsung 1080p Plasmas, I love it and looks great. No complaints so far. 1080p is the way to go if you're using it for PS3, Blu Ray, etc.

both my lcd's are samsung....great quality and great price.

vizio's are good for the price but check them out in store to see if you are happy with them. you can get more for the money but they aren't the quality of samsung, sony, lg, etc.

i decided to spend a little more for the samsung.

WTF?????? Samsungs are LCD's?

It is my understanding that if you go over 40" in size you should get a plasma.

Do the LCDs still fade out when looking at them from the side? That's what I didn't like about them. In a very large room, that can be a problem.

plasma's have a better viewing angle but LCD's aren't bad, just not as good. but it depends on the brand and t.v. because some are better than others. just read up on the reviews on them. a lot of good info here:

Oh o.k. then, for a moment there I was considering slapping the dude over a Best Buy. Phew. No need to now.

slap him anyway, i'm sure he deserves it for something else he has done. :D

I must agree. At first I was adamant about getting LCD just because of the "ease of use" factor. however after doing my research and going with a Panasonic plasma, I couldn't be happier. Minimal break in time, and I have had no issues of image retention or burn in. The picture is gorgeous and crisp. Im a plasma believer.

Plasma still produces the better picture of the two technologies. Pioneer makes the best set in my opinion, but you'll pay for what you get. Panasonic has a few good models as well. I wouldn't bother with an LCD unless it had a 120hz refresh rate and Samsung and Sony would be the only brands I'd look at there.

K done. Tommorrow for sure. Can't remember exactly who he was so I will have to go on a slapping spree just to make sure! :D

Mine was actually fairly reasonable.

What size is yours?

I was told that Plasma was the way to go and that LCD's were more choppy with black colours. An issue with the pixels I believe. I did alot of research before getting the Samsung, at the time I was also told the the Panasonic was surprisingly one of the best made.

Still for the price I went with the Samsung.

My tv is crap. :lol
Its hd but a crappy make. The thing is I couldn't refuse the offer I got.
They promised to have a certain tv for me on a certain day ( 27 inch I think at the time for a bedroom , not over 32 " ).
They didn't have the tv and after a bit of arguing they offered me a 37 inch hd tv for the same price as the 27 !.
I obviously took it. Had it for about 2 years and its holding up but I've had a few problems and have recentley been looking at getting a bravia.

I have heard plasmas can burn out or something , someone told me the gases can go in the or something. I wasn't really listening to the converstaion but it always put me off plasma , maybe that was bull crap .
I am probably going to choose plasma this time.

Also, and probably most importantly when it comes to the right choice for you. Here's a breakdown of viewing distance, resolution, and tv size that'll let you know what type of tv you should look at. Don't get caught up in the hype of 1080p if you you're going to be sitting at a distance looking at a tv size where you can't tell a difference. You can save a lot of money buying a tv that'll be perfect for your situation by not getting caught up in the hype. Here's the chart...

I just bought a 46" Panasonic Plasma. I went to bestbuy first. It $1818.00 with taxes. And for the hell of it I went to amazon. They had the same one for $1350.00. No taxes and free shipping. I bought it. I like it. I still haven't found a color preference I like. They have "standard", "Vivid", etc.

Also when buying a HDMI cable I was told there all the same. Digital is Digital. I have a Monster HDMI Cable but bought cheap ones on Amazon for $9.99 6ft, for my PS3 and Direct TV box. I wouldn't spend more then $20 for a HDMI cable. Check out some research and shop around.
