I have never had any issues of glare with my plasma, then again maybe mine came with an anti glare screen and I didn't even know about.

Also I agree HDMI cables are more than good enough, much cheaper than monster cables.

honestly, i'm not entirely sure about the 120hz... yeah, they're smooth looking, but the also have a tendency to look like a home video.

That's a factory preset and can be switched off in the TV menu. I'll never understand why manufacturers use this setting as a default when 99% of consumers will just assume it's a defect in the machine. What's happening is the TV is creating additional frames for smoother playback; it's meant for video sports and such. It shouldn't be applied to material shot on film (or HD treated to look like film).

so in all reality, it's kinda useless for everyday tv and movies unless you're watching high speed stuff like football games?

Yep. They should just call it the "sports" setting or something. But programming it as the out-of-the-box default is just stupid. Took me a good 10 minutes to figure out how to switch it off on mine! I think most people will just assume their new TV looks like crap and HD is overrated rubbish. The tech industry really knows how to shoot itself in the foot!

does anyone here have an Olevia tv?? there's a nice one at Compusa and Walmart for a really good price and its time to upgrade to a 1080 tv the first of the year. i'd like to know about their quality and customer service---should i drop that kind of money or just wait a little longer and get a samsung for more??

my plasma set has anti-glare coating which works very well. no glare for me.

So with your expertise what HDMI cable would you recommend, taking into account that we don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on overpriced Monster Cables?

I use Ultralink cables for everything. They are top quality and you can find some in a decent price range. I would not use Monster Cables.

Pay the extra money and get a Sony LCD. I can promise you that it will be money well spent. Cheaper isn't always the solution. I have had my Sony 43 inch LCD since 2002 when these things were $6500 and it still runs just like the day I got it. I even bought a 53 inch in 2006 to upgrade to and it runs just as good. I have never regretted buying a Sony tv, now PS2's thats another story :(.

Whilst Plasmas used to be way out in front in the industry these days they are considered to be pretty much on level pegging.

Like anything it comes down to personal choice.I'm extremely fortunate to be getting my bro's for nothing besides transport costs since he is upgrading.:D

I recently bought a 46", 120hz, 1080p Samsung LCD 50,000:1 contrast ratio, for the bedroom. It's got to be the most beautiful PQ I've ever laid eyes on.

Both technologies are great. I have both LCD and Plasma (a 55", 1080p in the entertainment room), but I must say the new Samsungs are on a whole other level.

Pioneer KURO plasma is the best display on the market. Very expensive, though, so they're definitely not for everyone.
+1

I dont know if the modelname is the same all around the world, but I got a Pioneer 428XD and its awesome. It was very expensive when I bought it, believe I paid about 23000NOK(3000$ in todays currency) but I'm planning to have this tv for some time so the pricetag doesnt bother me that much. Not sure about the price today, but I think its around 16000NOK, so its getting cheaper.

On the other hand Panasonic got some great plasmatv's for a cheaper price, I almost bought a Panasonic but since a friend of mine gave a big discount on the Pioneer I had to buy that one :p

56" DLP for me. But there is always something new making you feel like a tard 2 minutes after buying anything to do with technology.

I have a 26 inch Sony Bravia LCD that I absolutely adore. Fantastic picture, great sound hookup, and 2 HDMI ports. Best TV I've ever gotten.

I have a Sony Bravia 32 inch not bad great for gaming.
Choices:
1) Sony
2) Samsung
3) Pionner

If a TV is expensive why not get a LCD monitor and hook it up to your consoles. X360 has the cable i am not sure about PS3

I just bought the same sony...and love it for gaming and movies. tv is a little grainy..however thats just cause i dont have a HD cable box.
