both tv's have their advantages, the biggest difference is in your viewing conditions.

if your in a darker setting say with very little outside light, then go with a plasma, since if you have alot of light leak in your viewing space the plasma will be somewhat harder to view.
if your have alot of outside light then go with lcd.

both have advantages and disadvantages most are so minor that under normal viewing conditions most people can't tell the difference when viewing at 720p and above

your 1/2 live on a lcd is much shorter, but the plasma starts to wear out the minute it's produced (gas leakage) so it doesn't matter if you use it or not, the gas leaks out at the same rate.
like i said both have +'s & -'s. so choose depending on your viewing situtation.

Also when buying a HDMI cable I was told there all the same. Digital is Digital. I have a Monster HDMI Cable but bought cheap ones on Amazon for $9.99 6ft, for my PS3 and Direct TV box. I wouldn't spend more then $20 for a HDMI cable. Check out some research and shop around.

monoprice.com is a good place for hdmi cables.

by the time the phosphors run out on my plasma set, the technology would warrant you to buy another model anyway! I look at electronics as obsolete in 5+ years...not buying them to expect to last a lifetime.

I love the black blacks on my plasma, something LCDs can't do yet.

I just bought a 46" Panasonic Plasma. I went to bestbuy first. It $1818.00 with taxes. And for the hell of it I went to amazon. They had the same one for $1350.00. No taxes and free shipping. I bought it. I like it. I still haven't found a color preference I like. They have "standard", "Vivid", etc.

Did you tell Best Buy you could get the same set for that much? I'm not sure if they'll cost match, but I'm gonna try it if that happens.

I have never had a problem with my Sony Bravia LCD, it works and looks great!

Yeah but thats typical Sony isn't it? You get what you pay for, there is no doubt that Sony makes almost everything best. I would have loved to get a Sony but damn their prices are sometimes almost like 50-60 % higher.

I have a LCD myself, SONY Bravia XBR 46" , and absolutely love it. I got it for a great price too ($1,900 , it usually costs over $3,000) at Best Buy.

120HZ is the way to go on LCD's.

and Blu-ray looks incredible.

Pioneer KURO plasma is the best display on the market. Very expensive, though, so they're definitely not for everyone.

I must agree. At first I was adamant about getting LCD just because of the "ease of use" factor. however after doing my research and going with a Panasonic plasma, I couldn't be happier. Minimal break in time, and I have had no issues of image retention or burn in. The picture is gorgeous and crisp. Im a plasma believer.

I love my plasma!

LCDs are great too, but I prefer plasmas.

I got a Samsung LCD, it's about three years old, as good now as it was the first day... it's nice... I like it!

You want to take into account how much light you get in the room your going to have the t.v. in. If you have a lot of light nithere then you'll want an LCD - plasma's will glare in a lot of light. If light is not a problem then go plasma becuase ultimately plasmas have the best picture - but lcds are getting better.

If you're looking at lcds then sony or sharp are the best. If your looking at plasmas then it's pioneer all the way.

I wouldn't get a vizio if you're looking to maximize a bluray player, their cheaper price tv's that are the bargins only go up to 1080i. They do make one now that is 1080p but their not the budget hdtv like the other ones.

By the way cables do matter. Cheap material make cheap pictures, if digital is digital then everything that was digital should be dirt cheap. I did home theater installation for about 2 years and if you have the eye you can see the difference in cheap vs expensive cables. Most people can't see the difference so ultimately it doesn't matter but the argument digital is digital is just wrong.

i was looking at those XBRs and they're nice, but expensive. honestly, i'm not entirely sure about the 120hz... yeah, they're smooth looking, but the also have a tendency to look like a home video.

Bigger isn't always better. I've yet to see a projector that provides PQ anywhere near what I get from my 60" KURO.

my plasma set has anti-glare coating which works very well. no glare for me.

So with your expertise what HDMI cable would you recommend, taking into account that we don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on overpriced Monster Cables?
