Apparently Phelps isn;t the hero of the games anymore... was just watching the BBC and they were talking about how Phelps has not realy rewritten history in any way.. according to them Bolt will go down as Beijings superstar

My friend Trey Hardee is up tonight. He's in the decathlon and is currently in second so far. Go Trey!!:banana

8/22/08 Edit!
Well my friend had to withdraw from the decathlon competition. But I'm so proud that he even qualified and made it to the Olympics in the first place! And I know he'll be in London for 2012. Currently Bryan Clay, another USA decathlon member is gunning for the gold. Go USA!

Usain Bolt is the man! I loved how he was posing next to the timeboard posing for the cameras with his world record time!

whatever.

The guy has 8 medals, dunno how he cannot be the "hero"/star of the show. Plus he dosen't have a bit of an ego like Bolt.

Funny thing about the SI cover,I didn't scroll all the way down to the medals and I thought it looked as if he was wearing a dress.

The reason why Bolt should go ahead of Phelps is that a swimmer has the opportunity to win all of those medals BECAUSE there are so many swims they can compete in. Bolt was in three races-- won three golds-- set three world records-- Bolt is the face/hero of these games (IMO). Sorry.

By the way I missed the 4 x 100 relays-- how'd the US Men and Women do?

:naughty (ducks)

I believe there are more than 8 races a person could run in if they so choose to.

And how many OTHER swim races could Phelps have competed in but didn't?... That argument works both ways.

Yes, but you brought up the number of events. I don't see how Bolt with only 3 WRs and 3 gold medals is the face of the games when Phelps had 7 WRs, 1 OR, and 8 gold medals, and they both could have entered more events. I'll wager that swimming takes as much training and energy as track and field.

But were they mostly the same distance?

? you are forgetting that he also only had to go through the rounds on 3 events...Phelps had to do that on 8 events. phelps did have the opportunity to win 8 golds but he had to go through qualifying rounds for 8 events, not just 8 swims. have Bolt try 8 racing events, going through every qualifying round of each race and see if he even gets to the finals of them all by the time it's all said and done.

not to say that Bolt isn't an amazing runner and is a top story though, because he is but it isn't the same as what Phelps did...IMO.

You don't think Bolt couldn't get through more qualifying rounds??? Did you see this guy run???:lol I'm not dismissing Phelps' accomplishment. I just was more impressed with Bolt. Perhaps the Olympics coverage that I followed wasn't inundated with piece after piece of dissecting Phelps as the greatest Olympian of all time (and it seemed to everytime I turned over to the NBC coverage from the CBC coverage)--

i was talking about fatigue and all of the races adding up and wearing him down...not that he isn't the fastest runner on the planet...it's very clear that he is. what phelps did even goes beyond him being the overall best swimmer and the total number of gold medals...he had to go through all those qualifying rounds for 8 events and still broke WR's and OR's and won gold in each...that's what so amazing to me. if Bolt could do the same it would be equally amazing but he was only in 3 events. that's not a bad thing but if the question is whose feat(s) were more amazing in my eyes, it's Phelps.

Holy crap has this gotten anal. Who cares who had the better Olympics?! Seriously! I say they both will be the two biggest athletes of these Summer games. Neither one deserves more credit than the other. They both clearly were dominate. Phelps in swimming, and Bolt in running. Both of those individuals are now the faces of their respective sports.

Anyway, Canada has now brought in 17 medals. WOOHOO! 6 more than 2004's showing!

GO CANADA GO!!! 2010 Vancouver Olympics will not even make us one of the top Olympic countries per capita, but could end up making us the No. 1 country overall on the Medals podium! Woohoo! BRING IT!

Yeah, Belgium just got their first medal !

I guess nobody cares, but I needed to tell that right now ...
