I enjoy the Trojan Games. The Judo highlights were great, the Ukranian weightlifting team was impressive holding for three lights but my favorite was the Precision Vaulting, Ruthie-Lou Jackson really nailed that last one.

They just said on the news that Beach Volleyball is the first event to completely sell out. Why are the Chinese so interested in that?

It's funny because for the most part (basketball and a few other exceptions) I don't care a lick for these sports, but when the Olympics roll around I am glued to my TV.

i agree. its just the whole competition, who's the best in the world, thing that gets me watching.

Anyone else notice (it would have been hard to miss) that the USA National Anthem was cut short during USA's first gold medal event (Michael Phelps - swimming)?!?

WTF? That was a little disrespectful. The whole last part of "...and the land of the free and the home of the brave" was muted. The anthem was just music, no words, but still.

yeah i saw that. but it also sounded like they started late. was it pre-recorded or what? anyway Phelps kicked major ass and destroyed his previous world record.:rock

I think it was more that someone stuffed up rather than being disrespectful, well you'd hope thats what happened.

Phelps will be hearing that anthem plenty in the coming week anyway.

Unfortunately plenty of problems at these games so far.Besides the smog, crowds are small at a lot of the events and families in certain sports are being denied entry to watch their loved ones.

Then u have the tragic death of the father in law of the US volleyball coach after being attacked by a mentally ill man with a machete.

Per capita we usually take it.:D

Not for the Winter games.. the Norewegians and Canadians took the most medals, and we have crap for population. :)

Actually, per capita, we beat the US last time around. But you're right, Australia does kick major ass during the Summer Olympics.

I love football (thats 'soccer' to most of you) but Olympics football just ain't the same for some reason.

I found myself watching gymnastics yesterday and for some reason could not bring myself to change the channel!!!

That may be true but I go by Medal Count and thats where we dominate.

Actually medal count in the Winter Olympics we came in second, and should place 1st in Vancouver.

btw Didn't Australia have the most medals at the last Summer Olympics or am I incorrect? I can't remember as far back as 2004. :D

But yes, that US sure does well. :)

You also dominate in steroid usage...:monkey3

and this is coming from the country that brought you Ben Johnson---:D

LOL So true, on both accounts. I remember how many Americans were caught abusing steroids in the last Olympics. It definitely helps... damn cheaters.

And Ben Johnson ... :angrycanu
