As long as this film makes what it costs the entire trilogy it's ok...the next two films will be pure profit...

:lol Of course it does. It was out for 17 weeks! Behave!

I know, I'll behave. I just wanted to contribute a little to this thread since I know it was only created so Batman fans could feel a little better about themselves since they're still sore that Avengers is better than TDK and Marvel is better than DC. :peace

Good? So now the topic changed to supposed quality instead of $$$?

Anyway, POTC: On Stranger Tides, the 4th film in that series, made over a billion world wide.

Transformers 4 prolly will to.

I'm sure GIJoe 4: Star Brigade will top all these.

Normally I'd say Ninja Force would be #4 and Star Brigade for #5 for GI Joe, but Retaliation looks like it might be setting up #3 as Ninja Force with all the Roadblock Arashikage figures. :lol

Brace yourselves. Excuses why The Hobbit will not be topping Avengers or TDKR are coming.

I never did think it would do as well as The Avengers. Wasn't sure about TDKR, but I really don't care. Both these movies have a much broader appeal and fanbase.

I just want it to do as well as it can because I care about the franchise is all.

At least you're just playing around. Some find it fun just too bash things they don't care about anyway just to upset some. :lol

The topic? No. My post? Yes.

Yes, POTC:OST will probably reign supreme as the highest grossing 4th movie for quite some time, though I see TPM's recent 3D re-release has it nipping at OST's heels. The Hobbit is still the best fourth movie ever, and certainly the best fourth movie made by the same director of the first three. Of course I think that the only series' with the same director making four movies might be just Indiana Jones, LOTR/The Hobbit, and Spy Kids. :lol

Looking like this will end up doing Fellowship type numbers. It's already pacing below that on an almost daily basis so I'd imagine that's where it'll land at the end of its run. I'll be curious to see if this series falls in line with the Rings films monetarily with each film.

I'm kind of surprised it's doing that good. Not that I think this is a bad movie or it doesn't deserve it, but to me, the Hobbits audience is much more narrow than the lord of the rings movies. I don't expect any of these movies to do as well as the LOTR films mainly because the audience for the Hobbit is far less broad than LOTR.

And there are probably many who feel that they got their fill of LOTR on the big screen. Its not like the first trilogy really needed anything to be improved upon. At *best* The Hobbit could only really achieve "more of the same" quality-wise because there was just so little room for improvement.

Its over half a billion in under 2 weeks. It may not make Avengers money, but its not doing too shabby. :clap

Sadly you may be right. The GA may have gotten enough if Middle-earth but thankfully for people like me I've got two more movies. Then it's over. That was always going to be a problem The Lord of the Rings was fantastic and improving upon it would be a challenge thankfully Jackson at least matches the mark with the first.

Yeah, that's not bad at all. It's going to be in theaters for many more weeks so it will end up doing quite ok.

3 1/2 weeks and $825 million worldwide...Billion coming up easily within 2 weeks....

I'm thinking 1.2-1.3 billion by the end is possible. Still if it ends in the 1.1 billion range thats not bad at all.

The Desolation of Smaug might actually make a bunch of dough this time around (more so than the Unexpected Journey) simply because there it a lot more action supposedly. But then again, the whole story in The Hobbit could have been told in one nice three and half hour film and that would have been fine.

Many who didn't see it in the theaters that saw it on DVD I bet go see this one... Again a billion $ plus worldwide guaranteed

Betting this will make a whole lot less than the first film. The first film was going to make a decent ammount no matter what because the LotR trilogy is held in such high regard. But now you've got people like myself who didn't care for An Unexpected Journey and aren't expecting DoS to be any different quality wise.
