But even art comes down to an opinion and is usually produced with a viewer in mind.

And what usually happens there? Different, clashing opinions. I might see something and say it's visceral and thought provoking, you might see that same thing and see a bunch of tasteless crap, even if the artist has explanations for why, what and how they did something. It's all subjective.

That's the problem that everyone seems to have, that a certain thing is "so much more". It's like nobody wants themselves or their work to be untypical or insignificant when that's exactly what they are. It's just expression, that's all, we all do it. It spoils the fun trying to complicate it or make it something more than it really is.

The conversation went into which films would be rated a 10/10. What did you think would follow in this conversation? Nobody said anything about not enjoying films that can't compare to The Godfather or Citizen Kane. In fact, the contrary point has already been made in like 5 posts before you went on your rant. It's only for sake of discussion and fun. I don't think anybody has suggested that their own perspective was the correct outlook.

Looking like this will end up doing Fellowship type numbers. It's already pacing below that on an almost daily basis so I'd imagine that's where it'll land at the end of its run. I'll be curious to see if this series falls in line with the Rings films monetarily with each film.

There are so many people that I know who no longer go to the movies, or take in second viewings simple because of how fast movies come out on dvd/blu now. They know it will be just a few months before they can buy it or netflix it. Kind of a shame really.

Movie theaters are kind of hell, thanks to Cell Phones, self centered movie goers, and insane prices for everything.

I don't blame them. But I'll always see films in the theater. It's a ritual.

That's one of the biggest factors for me. The Hobbit cost me $27.50 :horror

I go to a lot of movies, and never really had a problem with the first two. The prices, however, are hard to justify at times.

Yeah, it's something like 120 days from opening to Blu-Ray now. People I think figure why spend another $10 bucks when you can wait a month and have it at home. For me if the movie is good enough ill go see it a few times. Obviously I've done that here with seeing it four times and probably will see it 1-2 more before it leaves theaters. That being said I can't wait to be able to watch the EE at home in HD without worrying about other people possibly messing things up. Then it will be about time to see The Desolation of Smaug a few times. :rock

Brace yourselves. Excuses why The Hobbit will not be topping Avengers or TDKR are coming.

Which would mean it sold a lot fewer tickets than Fellowship (taking inflation + 3D into account). If I were WB i'd be disappointed with that.

Yeah well lets see how well Avengers 4 does compared to this one.

Nobody has ever even come close to making a fourth film in a series this good. Not even close. That it stands among the original LOTR, even if slightly below in many fans eyes, is unprecedented.

The Armitage Trail novel that inspired the 1932 film?

Nah, the 1955 novel by Monette. :wink1:

:lol Case in point:

Not sure that's even a good comparison. Maybe comparing it to TPM since it's technically a prequel would be more accurate.

Of course people are going to discuss the outcome of an anticipated movie's financial success or lack thereof. Calling that out doesn't make you a genius. :lol

While this movie may not make the 1.5+ I was hoping its still going to do great money wise. Basically between the ticket sales and eventual Blu-Ray sales this movie will just about make its budget back. So WB should be happy with that and the other two will be mostly gravy.

I was just checking box office guru and Ted has better numbers than the Hobbit currently. :monkey3

Sorry, I know Trolls get hungry too and need to be fed.

Good? So now the topic changed to supposed quality instead of $$$?

Anyway, POTC: On Stranger Tides, the 4th film in that series, made over a billion world wide.

Transformers 4 prolly will to.

I'm sure GIJoe 4: Star Brigade will top all these.
