Today I got my annual bonus and I was so happy until I saw new licence.

I understand there are millions of people playing Warcraft and I respect Sideshow's marketing strategy.

I also used to play solo on my laptop and I can't say that I will definitely not buy but so far it is a disappointment for me.

Awesome licence. I don't understand why people who never played this game have ideas about the age of the people who play it, it's like saying comics are for 12 year olds because I don't read them.. The main reason the action figures flopped is because the people who play WoW wouldn't buy these ugly plastic toys, so as long as SS focusses on real statues or PFs, they will have a hit on their hands I think.

The only thing that excites me about this announcement is the fact that there may be more video game announcements in the future.

Indeed!

Bring on HALO!

Pry it from MS/Bungie's cold-dead hands!!! :monkey5

Lotta folks over the age of 16 play the game, the Wow guild I was in, was mostly a friends and family guild that raided was 25+, with quite a few of them in the 50+ age range, WoW seems to hit all sorts of age ranges.

I've been playing online games since the MUD days and so has my wife and we are in our mid 30's so as for just young kids with money is pretty far off and with WoW as a license they can market to China, Korea, etc... which love Blizzard and WoW like no one else, its a way of life there, so pretty smart license I think, Sideshow is becoming more international.

Though with all that said, I personally have no desire to buy any statues based off the game, I would have been more happy with Indiana Jones, Serenity or the Matrix, but no worries just more money for me to spend on something else.

Happy Holidays

Evan

I find the announcement boring as well.
I stopped playing Warcraft Long ago, after the very first version.
Although there is some interesting concept art, it's too stylized for my taste to want as anything. If it's far more realistic then the concept art and are 1:6 scale figures, then I have some real interest. If not, I'll be saving money for LOTR And Star Wars figures.

I'm sure collectibles will find an audience out there, and I hope Sideshow doesn't lose money on this, but also hope this isn't a big hit because I really don't want to see another new forum here.

I am actually quite pleased...it is a big sigh of relief!

I am so concerned about all the 30th anniversary Star Wars Props (MR) and statues and 12"er's from Sideshow....Not to mention the trip to London for the Celebration Europe and last but certainly NOT least....the 1:1 scale R2 and 3PO from Sideshow!!!! I am happy that this is one less thing for me to agonize over! :chew

Ok. World of Warcraft. Interesting idea.
I play WoW and am a big fan of it. I am curious to see what SS will do with the license.
Oh yeah if you don't like the license - don't buy the products. n00bs.
Touchessky Level 60 Tauren Hunter - Feathermoon Server.
For the Horde!

I don't even recognize half the people on this board anymore!

Where did all the regulars go? All the newbies seem to be dissing Sideshow, isn't this a "Sideshow Freaks" board.

I think the WoW line could be awesome. I never played the games in my life but if the statues, busts, etc are cool I'll buy them. Sideshow needs to think about the future and Buffy, Bond, and Apes aren't cutting it anymore. Marvel, LOTR's and Star Wars seem to be the bread & butter now.

As for DC, Indiana Jones, and Pirates it's already been explained that the licenses has been sought but the holders of those licenses will not budge...yet. Sideshow can't just say..."hey let's do this" and it happens. If they can get Star Wars, LOTR's and Marvel I think they know how to negotiate for a license.

Now stop your complaining newbies or I'll sound the Kurgan alarm to get medieval on your ass!!!

Although I can't relate to this license, I hope SSC won't wind up causing me to be interested in the license. They will probably come out with impressive stuff, but I hope the lack of emotional attachment will leave me far away and my wallet much happier. Visually there is a lot of potential to make some interesting products. Points that players are usually post teen crowd that don't spend money on stuff like this is somewhat valid, but it will likely bring another group of people normally not into sideshow into the fray and give sideshow more exposure. It's marketing and expanding their fan base. Collecting is addictive and broadening the audience is the goal. It's an interesting move on sideshow's part, wish them luck. I will reserve judgment until stuff comes out, but intial reaction is a sigh of relief.

I wonder if this announcement and subsequent product will get a lot of gamers to joing the Freaks board? I know a lot of people were a bit annoyed by an influx of SW fans... I could imagine a similar reaction to gamers... especially from some of whats already been posted.

Like I said I have 0 interest in WoW stuff, but my guess is Sideshow feels confident they can make some money, and the more money they make the more likely it is they'll keep churning out the products I like.

It will be interesting to see what sort of products SSC offers for Warcraft. I don't know many WoW players over twenty and that's borne out statistically by WoW's subscriber rolls, not just by me anecdotaly. Seems like most of the folks I know who played in High School or College just don't have enough time to invest in the game once they become adults to be "serious" players. I hope SSC has considered that and produces lower priced collectibles aimed at younger, currently non-collectors, since that's literally 99% of the WoW fan/player base.
Personally I pull for everything to be successful SSC offer since it improves the odds of them trying more different, less sure thing (Star Wars, LoTR) type licences. Eventually if they do well with WoW, or whatever, you just might get some lecense YOU want that might seem to be a more marginal property.

There's really no need for Sideshow to lower the price. 1% of WoW players equals about 70,000 people. If only 5% of those were to buy a SS WoW statue/bust/whatever, that's still 3500 people...more than enough to make this a profitable venture for Sideshow...not to mention the non-WoW players that will buy them.

I really think people here would have been less annoyed if there hadn't been a Christmas countdown with all the hoopla surrounding this. That advertising was aimed at the current collectors and they are the ones who (it seems anyway by the tone of this thread) couldn't give a rat's sphincter about this line. If they had just made a simple announcement the reception might have been less chilly. I also know very few adults who can and do invest that kind of time into a video game. I also doubt 5% of any group would buy SS collectibles. That number is way too high.

Geesh people, so the new license isn't what you had hoped, too bad. I didn't hear anything about Sideshow stopping all the other lines they are doing, and you are on this board for a reason, so you still have what you always did. I have never in my life played WoW or any other online game, but I can see the possibilities that this line could offer. I like cool creations no matter what their origin may be, so I for one am certainly willing to let Sideshow make the decisions on what they forsee as a line with great characters to give their treatment to. I wish Sideshow well in everything it does, and I hope this brings even more great collectors to the Sideshow table, the more the merrier in my opinion. So I hope the January announcement will be more to your liking and then suddenly Sideshow will be the greatest company in the world to you again. :p

The other part of the calculation is that even IF 5% might buy - I'd figure alot would buy something representive of their character but still not go into "generic" WoW stuff.

I'd feel the same if someone ever did NWN based stuff - I'd be happy to buy a representatation of my PC but I'd probably not buy anything else.
