I think people are just substituting WORST movie of the year with their most disappointing. ... I think many here are also substituting their FAVORITE movie of the year in the "BEST" of 2007 thread.

Yep. It takes a certain amount of perspective to seperate one's personal reaction to a film with legitimate critical analysis.

I recognize that Atonement is a great piece of cinema, but it's certainly not my favorite of the year, although it might be the "best" film I saw. So best and favorite aren't necessarily interchangeable, just as worst and most disappointing aren't.

Well, I don't know about WORST movie of the year... But as far as biggest disappointment... SM3 was the one for me. That movie really wasn't what it could have been.

But there have been far WORSE films released this year.

And I don't see where the hate of POTC: AWE and Death Proof come from, those were both great imo... But to each his own I guess. :lol

Worst: I don't think any I've seen qualifies for worst.
Best: Sweeney Todd
Most Disappointing: Shrek 3
Favorite: Enchanted

I have a tendency to do a lot of research into movies before I see them and do my best to avoid ones that really don't look good to me. The film I saw last year that I enjoyed the least was Knocked Up. I avoided SM3 and AVP:R though. POTC3 wasn't the best movie ever but I kinda went in to it expecting it to pull a Matrix 3... which it did.

Transformers.

You like the toys? I hear ya. Spend your money at TRU.

You liked the pretty girl? Join the queue, I hear they're giving out free porn at the front.

You thought the effects rocked? Yep, CGI rulez! Buy a 360/PS3 and live the dream.

It. Was. CRAP.

i'D SOONER SUCK GIANT MONKEY BALLS THAN WATCH THAT PILE OF ****E AGAIN.

Best movie of 2007? Brat School. Yum.

I agree that many of you are taking the most disappointing and labeling it the WORST. To illustrate, let's look at some of your choices:

Spider-man 3: IMDB - User Rating: 6.7/10 (89,970 votes)
Pirates of the Caribbean 3: IMDB - User Rating: 7.1/10 (75,688 votes)
Shrek 3: IMDB - User Rating: 6.3/10 (29,397 votes)
Live Free or Die Hard: IMDB - User Rating: 7.7/10 (68,797 votes)
AVPR: IMDB - User Rating: 6.0/10 (5,955 votes)

Now, I am not trying to invalidate anyone's opinion. If you truly think one of the movies above sucked, then that's your right and your opinion. I just put the figures up to illustrate how people's emotions are blinding them. Read the postings for those movies above ... most of them aren't descriptions of why a movie was bad ... they are pure hate. Sure, hating a movie may make it "worst" on your list, but it's not an honest rating. For example, if Spider-man 3 was the first film, no one here would label it the worst film of 2007. I am sure there would be comments like, "well, it wasn't as good as Batman Begins, but it's a decent beginning. Lets see where they go from here." Same thing with POTC 3 and pretty much every sequel you guys listed. But, the first films were so amazing, their average sequels don't stand a chance in your eyes. So, in the end, I agree with Dave. If those are the worst films you have seen this year, A.) you guys must not watch many movies and B.) I feel luck for you.

My worst film of 2007? Daddy Day Camp - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0462244/ - I let a female friend talk me into going to see that excrement at the theater. I wasn't expecting Shakespeare, but expected TBS level entertainment from an OSCAR winner. Cuba should have to return his statue for being in that film ... ugh.

You are a piece of work.

Have fun sucking on those giant monkey balls.:D

SM3 because i thought it was going to be so uch more but it was'nt really bad to me,just not as great as the other.
But golden compass wins big time, feel like i got cheated from seeing a great christmas movie.

I'm pretty picky when it comes to watching movies.....unless I have a genuine interest in the film, I won't waste my time watching it just to watch something. That being said, I may sometimes feel a bit disappointed in a film's final delivery if it's not what I was expecting, but thankfully I usually manage to avoid the complete turkeys. Most of the films listed, I haven't bothered to see....SM3, Transformers, AVPR, Shrek3...I did see POTC3 and that I actually found entertaining. Not super, but entertaining nevertheless. So the more I think about it, the more I realize I've only seen a very small handful of crappy movies. The biggest loser of them all...HOSTEL 2. The first one really disturbed me....the sequel was a complete waste of my time. Which then brings me to movies I rented (and thankfully didn't go see in the theater) that I also felt were so crappy I couldn't even watch them all the way through....Black Snake Moan and Alpha Dog.

Could I ask why you didn't like Black Snake Moan? It's been on most of the Critics best of lists (last year I believe) and I really liked it - thought it was one of "Sam the Man" best acting jobs ever. Not trying to discount your opinion, just curious what you didn't like about it.

I think this was Sam the Man's best

As for worst movie? I fell asleep at shrek 3, and was nauseated at spidey 3, so I guess it's a toss up.

SM3 was definitely the biggest disappointment and was an overall crapfest IMO. Definitely not the worst movie of the year, but of the ones I saw it had me scratching my head the most.

I agree, that Samuel Jackson does a fine job and was the only redeeming quality in this mess of a film. I like the director....I loved Hustle & Flow...I think what I disliked so much about this film was Ricci....she really annoyed me and after awhile it was like nails on a chalkboard. I also didn't really care for the plot...it just seemed a bit too much....almost like it was trying too hard to be cool or controversial....and it ended up just boring me. I didn't care about any of the characters or if Rae could eventually be saved. The acting was good (except for Ricci), the directing good....it was just the damn story that in my opinion, made this film a total stinker for me. :monkey3

Due to the high cost of movies ($11.50 - $12 here in NYC), I don't go to the movies as often as I used to. Unless it's something that I have to see on the big screen, I'll wait for cable or DVD. I recently saw "Live Free or Die Hard" and "Knocked Up" on cable. Ugh!!! Four hours of my life I will never get back! I don't think movies like "Die Hard" work anymore. That type of character and story line is so 80s. As per "Knocked Up", well maybe if you 18 and drunk, you'll like it. I am neither, so I hated it. Makes me think twice about seeing "Superbad". I have a feeling it may be just that... super bad!

As per "Spiderman 3", I have to say that the whole dancing Parker thing was totally ridiculous. What was Rami thinking? In my opionion, the movie wasn't horrible, but that dance sequence was totally unnecessary. I hope we don't see a SM4 for awhile.

Eric
