When it comes tt a thread like this it really almost has to be a "Favorite vs. Least Favorite/Most disappointing" as opposed to a critically "Best vs. Worst" simply because most of us never see the truly awful and unnecessary pieces of cinema that are released in a given year (perhaps with the exception of something like Hostel 2). In order to truly weigh in critically on such a subject it would require the ability to have seen more than those movies that one wanted to see, but even those that one had no desire to see. And since we have to pay for all movies whether we want to see them or not, no one generally goes to see something they don't want to.

As disappointed as I was with Spider-man 3, there's no way I would rather sit through 'Are we Done Yet' or 'Step-Up 2' (or whatever teen dance movie remake of Breakin' is out) or 'Hostel 2' instead. But by virtue of not having to see the latter films, SM3 becomes one of the more disappointing films/worst for me, even though on a critical level it wouldn't even be close to the worst.

IMDB is a great resource for film/television, but like any internet website, it isn't the best when trying to cite actual facts and figures or to prove a point on critical issues. Their forums are truly horrendous and make the Star Wars section here look like an absolute love-fest.

You know, for all the "clueless" and annoying teens that one sees at the cinema, or the mall there are actually quite a few, perhaps even just as many, who are knowledgeable and have some sense of cultural relevance and even intelligence. Just like the internet, the ones that draw our attention through ridiculous actions, statements, etc., cause us to define the group based on a small sampling of individuals. There are plenty of teens who aren't at the mall and they are the ones renting interesting artistic films, reading works that challenge their frame of reference and developing their own ideas and concepts about life, art, social issues, etc. I know it's easy to judge the younger generations by the crap we see pushed towards them and even by the crap they consume; but that's the way every generation is judged by those who preceded them.

Spiderman 3 ranks amongst the biggest disappointments of 2007.....let's hope Indiana Jones doesn't serve the same fate.
