Not sure if this has been discussed;

If this movie is set in 1983, and they are looking at mid-late teens for Scott, Jean and Storm, that would give their characters a birth year of around 1965-1968.

X-Men is set in 2004 I believe. This would give Scott, Jean and Storm an age range of 36-39.

X-Men: DOFP finale is set in 2023, giving Scott, Jean and Storm an age range of 55-58.

There is now way they are 55 years old in DOFP. They look 45-50 at the oldest.

****ing Hollywood.

When is it stated it's in 2004? The film came out in 2000 and it states "in the not so distant future." Besides, I wouldn't read too much into the timeline considering the series got rebooted.

Most websites I found online have all stated that the canonical consensus is that X-Men is set in 2004. I may be wrong. Doesn't change the age error for DOFP though.

****ing Hollywood.

:exactly:

They could easily rectify this by setting Apocalypse in 1989. Give Scott, Jean and Storm birth years of 1974, making them 15 in Apocalypse, 30 in X-Men, and 49 in DOFP.

1989 would also make Charles and Erik around 57-59. I'm sure they could age them effectively.

Scott, Jean, and Storm are supposed to be 55 in DOFP but they look 50? I can't say I consider that to be the greatest sin for a superhero fantasy film to commit. ;)

True, but I was using 45-50 hypothetically. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that they looked like they were mid-late 40's, not pushing 60.

Agreed, the timeline is all out of whack as it is, and you certainly don't want 10-year-olds running around on the screen. Just get back to the core storytelling, pluck the strongest characters, cast good talent, have eye-popping visual design, and make a cool movie. Who's going to care what matches up with the 2000 movie 5 minutes in? I don't know why Singer feels it's so important to set the movie in the 1980s except that he gets to play with the pop culture of the era since XFC was 60, DoFP was 70s so now he can time hop to the 80s. I'm not sure what it is about the X-Men, but the comic used to suffer from all kinds of continuity/timeline/retcon issues and now it seems the movies are following suit. I just hope this one and the eventual sequel are good, because the franchise won't get rebooted for at least another decade.

Speaking of googling ages I just looked up Danny Glover and later this year I'll turn the same age that he was when he coined the catchphrase "I'm getting too old for this ****." :horror

I don't want to see this. I want a vintage, early-mid '80s period piece. That's the time period from my early childhood, and an important time period for lots of classic X-stories (particularly the gritty stuff circa Uncanny #200). By '89 the real spirit of the '80s was gone. Obviously with this franchise you've already got to put aside some logical inconsistencies that the nitpicker would pick up on. What's one more, when the benefit is their attempt to give us a cooler film?

Besides, Khev's point holds!

Time to pass the baton and move on. Jackman will probably be next. Will be interesting to see how that's handled since I'd guess that will want to cast a relatively young actor.

Young cast, just like Singer likes em'.

Wolverine will probably fall into a deep sleep again and have his age reversed so they can get a young boi to replace Jackman. Maybe have Wolverine and Mystique fuse so Jennifer Lawrence can play Logan.
