Well I got the Blu Ray and watched it again. I might enjoy it more on the second watch. The '80s mall scene that was deleted from the film was pretty damn great, so I'm sad it was taken out. They set up an entire retro arcade that wasn't even shown in the final film, same for the record shop. Some of the other removed scenes would have added some context and better fleshed things out, such as Cyclops' relationship with his brother, the fate of Stryker, etc. However, the primary flaw of the film probably is that it goes on a bit too long, and isn't as focused as it could be. So the film actually might have benefitted more for additional scenes being culled.

But the drama still was very well done IMO, and I even appreciated Angel more this time around. Psylocke was still pretty much a waste, but on the behind the scenes featurette you kind of see why. She was added in at a very late date and shoe-horned in, to provide more bad guys able to fight in the last scene. Initially, Xavier was meant to essentially be the 4th Horseman. But it was strange that Singer was praising Munn for being a comic fan, able to bring that perspective to the set, and she described Psylocke as this great, psychic character, but she exhibits no real telepathic abilities in the film. Her psychic sword and whip are just traditional weapons she can create, apparently.

One other note--I went to Target to get their version for the book, and it's pretty lame to be honest. It does give you a more distinctive package, but if that's what you care for it's probably better to get the tin container that everybody likes collecting. It's like a literal high school yearbook for Xavier's school, with little notes scribbled in by characters from the film (apparently including Iceman???) and random names I couldn't connect to the film or comics. Not worth going out of your way for.

Dunno if this was posted before or not.
Armorless Oscapoc feels much more natural.
The character could work better with this look.

It was on screen for like 6 seconds, man... :monkey2

Good actor > Actor who looks best for the part.

I think either extreme can be equally bad but as a general rule I agree with you. If an actor doesn't look the part but has adequate talent and charisma you can say they "redefined" the character (Keaton and Nicholson for instance or SLJ as Nick Fury.) But if an actor looks the part but is a terrible performer then all you're ever going to see is a failed attempt to bring that character to life.

Well, Ultimate Nick Fury was written specifically for SLJ. Back when the Ultimate line was just starting, marvel asked him for permision to use his likeness (there's an scene in Ultimates where all the characters choose who they'd like to see portray them in a hypothetical movie about themselves), and he gave it to them, with the condition that if they made a movie, he'd play the part. So, in a way, SLJ is Nick Fury.

He just didn't have the stature anyone who was at least vaguely familiar with him had in the slightest. Although I'll take the good actor over the idiots that though the Rock was a good choice purely based on his body.

But it didn't work out anyway since he was in such a **** film so...

Oscar is a very good actor but the prostetics and hillarious high boots made his perfomance seem forced.
And it's not like the character had a lot of depth. At first, maybe... but then it all went to the Cheese Land.
All in all I'd prefer to see a good lookin' comic book character played by an ok actor instead.

Apoc didn't need to be huge either since they can use camera tricks and cgi. A guy of average height would have been big enough probably, but they went with Al Pacino 2.0 instead. The big nose didn't help either. He looked ridiculous.

With Apoc I'd prefer a Darth Vader/CLU 2.0 type of scenario - some big ripped guy in a cool costume could perform the physical part with a good actor providin' his voice and face mocap for the CGI.

Eh, half the time it looks pretty damn great.
The fact that it's a computer program helps too.
