Ian and Patrick get respect because they are, by far, the best actors in the franchise. :dunno

Jackman comes close, especially after his Broadway and Le Mis cred, but he's still not there yet.

That character in your Avatar is what I think Wolverine should be like on film. Jackman's Wolverine is close but lacking the intimidation. The character also needs to be treated differently, he should be in the background not the central character and only come to the forefront when bad s*** goes down, exactly how Snake Eyes should be treated.

I agree with you on Jackman playing Wolverine, but I still say the only time the character was correct was in The Wolverine. Singer always has him talk about the animal rage, but we have never seen it. Singer's version of Logan is a lot like the current Marvel Comics version. Lots of talking about rage, anger, the animal within, but almost no showing. At least in the Wolverine they play with him trying to find something worth fighting for again, and his nobility. Had they not gone with Iron Monger as the final villain, but instead gone with an actual Samurai fight of Logan vs the newly young old guy(forget his name) it would have been great. A hand to hand fight would have allowed better character moments. Logan can't use the beast to win this fight. It has to be the man. But back ontopic, we have not seenthe "beast" yet. Wolverine is pretty neutered in the X-Men films.
Berserker rage is what we haven't seen on film yet. That Wolvie can get so furious that he's a danger to everyone around him.

More blood, death and obscenities. :lecture :lol

Sounds about right then :yess: :lol

Yes too all of this :goodpost:

I remember in "The best there is", he was drugged in a nightclub and his urge to kill got so bad that he had to get out of there through the back door into an alley and stab himself to calm the blood lust.

He's been at the forefront of Marvel's comic X-men for decades. He's also fronted pretty much all the X-Men cartoons. Not sure if he still does, but at one point, even lead the team when they split, with Cyclops taking the other half. Film-wise, it's wholly understandable as he's essentially the glue for the franchise, with his "immortality" allowing Jackman to seamlessly jump through all storylines from present, through future and even past, without them needing to recast the role and open that whole bag of worms. Keeps everything consistent and copacetic. As for the berserker rage, I do agree, but they've yet to do a storyline where that would play well, vs. appear campy.

I watched the first cartoon series but it diverged so much from the comics that it and other X-Men series hold no influence on my perception of the character.
I stopped buying Wolverine and X-Men comics when the art went to crap about the time they put Joe Casey on them (I truly hate the writer) and a few years later stopped buying superhero comics altogether when the stories went nowhere.
I know they put Wolverine in Avengers which is just plain stupid so it wouldn't surprise me that they're mishandling the character.

Wolverine is one of the big characters at Marvel so I understand that he sells toys, toothpaste, and underoos and that's why he's so prominent in media, but that doesn't utilize the character in the best way.

It's not just that. You keep saying "First Class was the most successful of the franchise," but Wolverine blew past FC by almost $70mil. First Class underperformed even Origins by $20mil worldwide, DESPITE Origins being hurt by an internet leak of the film. :lol

World box office breakdown in order of most $$$ earned:

X-Men: The Last Stand: $459,359,555
The Wolverine: $414,828,246
X2: X-Men United: $407,711,549
X-Men Origins: Wolverine: $373,062,864
X-Men: First Class: $353,624,124
X-Men: $296,339,527

As you can see, First Class didn't even out perform the last two proper X-Men sequels, and, in fact, is second to last, placing 5th out of 6. :lol

Never said most successful nam. I said to most it's
Considered the best and brought life Back into the series.

The wolverine I Thought was the best superhero
Movie of the summer, but I still thought it was a subpar
Film. It was a huge step up from origins though.

I really liked The Wolverine, second only to First Class in my favorite X-Men films. I need to buy the Uncut version if it's that much better then the theatrical cut.

It really is amazing how much the small addition of more blood, death and swearing makes it really feel like a Wolverine film. It's just a shame FOX doesn't have the ***** to go full out and make an R-rated Wolverine. Honestly, I don't even really get why the uncut version would've gotten an R. The violence seemed relatively tame and there was only a single F-bomb.

Wow, that uncut version is sounding pretty cool, I definitely need to get it now.

Just found out Sunspot's not going full black super saiyan in this, that's disappointing.

You really need a R rating to show Wolvie's true superpower, he should look like a gory car wreak still able to keep on fighting to convey just how powerful he is. I don't understand how the Walking Dead can get away with as much gore and violence on TV as it does and yet we can't see anything close to that in a Wolverine movie.

Maybe they think it would come off too much as black face racism if they did. It wouldn't be an issue if they changed the character to African American and gave the black some kind of effect. But Singer would rather spend the dough on a giant robo-hairdryer statue.

The uncut version is better but there is a scene in it that I hate.

The part where he gets to the hotel and gets saved by Mariko.

For the most part i thought it was alright but couldn have been much better.

My order is x2, Fc, x1, the wolverine, x3, origins

The conundrum is, how do you do that and still market the hero (anti-hero) to children? In that respect I don't really envy them. Today's generation isn't like ours where we were getting badass toys of RoboCop, Rambo, Commando, etc., at Toys R Us, marketed directly to us through cartoons, comics, etc. They'd rather belittle and demonize anybody who comes up with that idea. Especially in this "progressive" environment where people are more concerned with telling us how we should live our lives.
