That was STM/Batman 89 for me. :lol

Of course I was a Burton Batman kid :lol I was listening to some of Danny Elfman's music from it last night, absolute masterpiece. Comic book films were few and far between before the onslaught of Marvel films. X1 and Spider-Man kick started it I think.

I actually liked Blade 1 a lot, I thought it was a great take on the character. Blade 2 I thought was okay, and Blade Trinity was meh.

I think Blade came before either X1 or SM1.

I am cautiously optimistic about this film. But I am not a Singer fan. I find he gets more wrong about these characters than he gets right. Plus his drab designs leave me wanting. I find X1 to be ok. X2 is fun and borrows from one of the best Ultimate X-Men storylines. X3 is an abomination, only surpassed by XO:W. XFC was very entertaining, and is lifted by Michael Fassbender nailing a young Magneto. The Wolverine was a really good film, but let down by the stupid robo battle, and abandoning what was working. Logan the entire movie has been denying himself. Why not have him go berserker on the Ninjas embracing that part of himself. And then instead of Iron-Man Mark 1600 AD, have him fight an actual human being in samurai armor, and embracing his own humanity. The beast can take out the numbers of the ninjas, but only the man can overcome the Samurai. Even with that misstep it was a very enjoyable film.

Who wasn't overjoyed that Marvel was finally getting the ball rolling on their major characters? Other franchises would go on to show how good it could really get, but for it's time X1/X2 were the best. Origins seemed to take in some of what made the other movies click; recognizeable costumes, better casting, better plot. DOFP's major sin so far is taking us back a step from First Class level visuals and added scrutiny because of the story they're choosing to adapt here. It's not like past movies where they had their own original concoctions (for better or worse), here they've invited the extra scrutiny because of the title alone.

This is a good point. Apart from C-listers like Blade and Punisher, X-Men was the first time we saw major Marvel characters on the screen, and so it was the first time I saw any of them that I really cared about that way. I had to drive about 30 minutes to get to a theater that was playing it, and was overjoyed seeing Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, and the others there. I did recognize some of its flaws right away, but you're totally right that this movie deserves to be appreciated for showing us that an A-list franchise didn't have to be overly simplistic or campy like most comic movies to that point.

What bothered me is how Logan didn't know who he was prior to their encounter, and they didn't allude to their famous rivalry at all.

If he had a mirror in front of him, he would see "a lot of people suddenly bashing the franchise as a whole"? Do you mean like, the magic mirror from that Disney cartoon?

It was just a joke :lol

Don’t be so literal and laugh!

X1 was incredible for taking the superhero franchise and introducing all the characters the way it did in a more grounded setting, X2 is in my top 5 greatest comic book movies, FC was awesome. I think most of the X-Men Fox movies have been good to great other than two of them, but where I probably differ from most members here is, I appreciate when directors bring their own unique vision to make a great film. I appreciate the artistry of it, and the risk they take, while still keeping the spirit of the comics alive.

It had its flaws, for sure. But even with Sabretooth, when he first attacked Wolverine and Rogue, I geeked out a bit.
Yeah - agreed.

Also, when my buddy & I first saw X1 in the cinema, the first time Sabretooth appeared, we instinctively looked at each other & said - "JAMES HETFIELD!" :lol

I also think the X-Films get a lot of flack in general. Sure, they have black leather costumes and are more "realistic" than Marvel Studio films... but if the costumes are what bothers people the most, is that such a horrible thing? Plus, they greatly improved on them in First Class so it doesn't bother me much.

I enjoyed the last two X-men films -- First Class and the Wolverine. I thought X1 and X2 were good, X3 was enjoyable and thought Wolverine Origins was crap.

I think Fox is on the upswing with their X-Men franchise... so I'm excited to see where they take it. I just hope Singer doesn't ruin it. He needs to fix the continuity errors (which it seems like he trying to do with this film and Apocalypse) As much as I would like X-Men to go back to Marvel Studios and have a proper reboot, that's not going to happen anytime soon.
