Nope.

Blindly accepting every ridiculously silly idea/design in a comic doesn't make them the best way to go about things.

It must not be that big of a deal if people have been so accepting of Jackman's Wolverine for the past 10+ years.

You do realize if Wolverine was 5'3" he'd be less than a foot taller than Peter Dinklage, right?

There are people out there, who think Bale has been the best Batman ever.... Doesn't mean not knowing 127 martial arts, not being the greatest detective nor not having a genius level intellect isn't a big deal.

I don't see a problem with 5'3...

These movies wete loosely based on the comics. I highly doubt that movie goers would appreciate a very short Wolverine, that's shorter than all of the women.

I don't see why not, people already liked the character way before the movies, besides, even though his "official" height is 5'3, he was rarely drawn that short, but also never as tall as Jackman, he's supposed to be a short, hairy, ugly, angry little runt... Jackman is none of those things.

Exactly :goodpost:

What works in the comics won't necessarily work the movies, and I'm fairly certain that the majority of movie fans would have just a passing interest in the comic canon (if any at all).

There's already a lot of comic ”inaccuracies” in these movies, so there's no reason to change things up now just to satisy the comic purists - who probably wouldn't have been interested in these movies in the first place.

I think Marvel studios proved that you can successfully introduce almost anything and it can work just fine with a proper adaptation, that's nothing but an excuse that has been rendered moot considering Guardians of the Galaxy has a freaking raccoon in it.... Besides, we're talking about his height, not even his suit, his short height is nothing crazy nor risky to attempt on screen at all.

Yeah there are a lot of inaccuracies, no need to put them in quotation marks, and you are right, there's not reason to change things in this continuity, I'm just saying that Jackman will never be my definitive Wolverine, he's the only one right now, but not the definitive.

Also, it's has nothing to do with being a purist, I'm in favor of comicbook-to-movie changes, but when dealing with source material there's only so much you can change before it starts being it's own IP, and every since X3, save for the claws and the healing factor, there's nothing of Wolverine in Jackman's performances....

If Hugh retires from the role I think the choices are - continue with the First Class cast for however long those actors want to do it and have NO Wolverine OR do a complete reboot with all new actors like many here want and make it much closer to the comics.

I don't want to see Wolverine played by someone else in this particular movie continuity, I think Hugh owns in that much.
Well, putting our own preferences aside, I really don't see an X-franchise without Wolverine. He's their equivalent of Spider-Man or Batman. So, if you accept that, what would you prefer--a total reboot, or keeping the First Class guys, and adding a new Wolvie? My preference is the latter, because the First Class guys are great for the most part.

A raccoon is a raccoon. But, people already have their preconceived notions, on how they judge actors to be handsome, heroic, and whatever else. It's superficial as heck, and the reality is, that a short and ugly actor playing Wolverine, isn't going to cut it on the big screen.

I never implied that Jackman was the definitive Wolverine. But, I'm sure that in a lot of people's minds, he has already set the standard for how the character "should" be portrayed in cinema. And of course, I'm referring to the average film goers, who have little to no knowledge of comics.

Yes I see your point, and where you're coming from, and you're most likely right about the standards Jackman has set, from now on a large number of people are going to expect something along the lines of Jackman if there's ever a recast, but that doesn't mean their expectations can't be changed.

The point about RR is that he is just like that in the comics, and Marvel had the balls to bring him as he is... They didn't need to change RR into a human-like mercenary with a dark back story for people to immediately accept him and that is an extreme scenario, I don't see why they can't do the same for a more Wolverne-ish Wolverine.

The point about preconceived notions for good looking tall actors is something I disagree with too, Lar' mentioned Peter Dinklage, well, he's the most popular game of thrones character by far, and my second favorite character is the Hound.... Dinklage isn't tall, and the Hound is extremely ugly.

Well, I think common sense dictates, that it's not a wise decision to go from a handsome and studly guy like Jackman, to an ugly mongrel. Like it or not, Jackman's portrayal of Wolverine will have a lasting impact on the selection of the next actor. So, I'm sure that they'll want another "sexy" guy to portray Wolverine :rotfl.

As for Game of Thrones, a lot of the ladies actually like Jon Snow, since he has already been established as this handsome, romantic loner in a leadership role :lol. But, the one thing that I love about Game of Thrones, is that it doesn't rely on just the popularity of one actor to carry it thorough (unlike X-Men and Jackman's Wolverine). On the contrary, there are many characters, each with their own stories, and points-of-views.
