Lol, I just saw Hugh, Michael and James at the Graham Norton Show, **** me there's so really bizarre creepy fan fiction about Michael and James man, the bloody hell!?

To quote Michael Cera "Super gay."

Anyway, uhm, that picture screams Hugh's Wolverine, but not comic book wolverine. First of all because imo Wolverine should hunch over more as he's a leaper, he will jump you (or get thrown), tall people just can't get away with that fluent behaviour as good. Secondly, Hugh never wears the mask, he just doesn't, that's a massive permanent notch down for me because Wolverine, to me, is as tied to his mask as Captain America is. Yes he removes it, but it IS his signature uniform.

The whole thing about him being small is that it's a psychological effect that makes him extra aggressive, because he always want s to take on guys bigger than him. That's how he started in the Hulk, that's how his rivalry with Sabretooth plays out. Wolverine is THE underdog that just won't ****ing stop. He looks for the biggest guy and just starts scratchin him all the way down to his level.

THIS screams wolverine:

And as much as I like Hugh, both his size and the lack of a costume has never rendered him able to truly be like that. He almost always outsizes his opponent, he never wears a mask, so he never has the white ghostly eyes coming at you.

Hugh was a great revolution in taking CB characters seriously, he's a great guy, and he nails the pain and rage, the psychology of wolverine very well, but from a visual point of view, he's never been wolverine to me. It's too much of a core aspect of the character to me that Wolverine always looks up, always bites off more than he can chew, but because of his sick healing factor, he remains standing anyway.

For those who know Dragonball Z Wolverine is like Vegeta to me, he gets mocked, he gets used, he gets manipulated, he rarely engages an opponent weaker than him, and yet always wants to fight before talking. And with Vegeta it's that same thing that he's smaller than almost everyone else that makes the character visually work. Everyone would be pissed if they were that small. Oh and for the record, I'm 6'6.

That Wolverine I've never seen in cinemas, not really. Glimpses in the first two x-men at best.

I guess Wolverin 2013 had some good aspects in that regard, I will say that. But that's a solo film. I'm tired of him having to be the leader.

Damn! Perfectly worded man, could not have said it better myself :goodpost: :duff:

Thanks man, ftr it's how I view wolverine and how I FEEL is accurate to the core of the character. I respect any differing opinions.

Also, a thing about the size is that Wolverine will try to either mount or tackle you, that's very signature to his stylle because that's what shorter people do. I've heard this from many fighters, it's almost inherently to your size how you fight, what strategies work.

No matter how much attention they give that, because Hugh is tall, he'll never capture the movement aspect of Wolverine well. And with arguably one of the best fighters in the whole X-verse, that;s kindof a massive problem to me to capture the essence of the character.

Not hating to hate, as I said I love Hugh. But no, he does not scream Wolverine as I like him best to me. He screams, though, that's good.:p

To better exemplify where I'm coming from, this sums it up for me:
"You always liked pushing people who were smaller than you Sabretooth, well I'm smaller, TRY PUSHING ME!" *Jumps*

This is what I am still looking for in cinema. This whole X-men. Can't help it.:dunno:

Hugh won't be the last cinematic Wolverine. I do think the next take on him should be closer to the comics and should wear the costume, afterall why just copy what Jackman did. However I may end up still preferring Hugh and I will defend him against the inevitable 'Hugh was always crap' backlash brigade.

I will never give Hugh backlash, Hugh is an icon to me. Love the guy. But honestly his Wolverine is more like a werewolf than a wolverine in the physical regard.

Wolverine ideally ought to call to mind his namesake which is low to the ground and pound for pound one of the most ferocious animals out there.

If they can get someone with a nasty snarl, 5'7-5'10 and built like a brick ****house, that would be a good start. Hugh's Wolvie is a tad bit restrained but he's a great actor even though he's not lifted off the page. Maybe he had to be a little more of a male model to grab the general public's attention, but I'm ready for a darker take after Hugh is well and done.

I love him in the role but I just don't like the movies centering around him but he will be missed when he's gone.

I think this movie looks great and can't wait to see it. Wish they would double feature it with X-Men: First Class.

Hugh IS Wolverine till he decides he's not. :yess:

That would actually be awesome. We should be getting in reactions from critics on the 10th, I'm hoping the movie exceeds my expectations.

They're doing a good job restraining what they show in the trailers, unlike ASM2.

Seems like many movies are doing so now, looks like the trend of showing the entire movie in the trailers is slowly fading away.
