So a friend of mine made a fairly good point and I wasn't able to refute it....

She said Magneto was stupid, why? Well, he wanted to kill Mystique so she wouldn't trigger the Sentinels program, then he failed and gave Trask a sample of her blood, later on, in the sentinels presentation, if he wanted to bring the sentinel project down, he needed only to make the sentinels go rogue against the people in the presentation with the metal he put in them and the sentinel program could have easily been shut down...

But he didn't, he got a stadium as barrier, got the sentinels as guards and threatened to kill the president on live television, proving that the mutants are indeed capable of some nasty ****..... So again, did he try to stop the war or to start it?

Thoughts? Not trying to start anything, I love the movie, but this kinda ruins it for me, it shows Magneto as a dumb villain, what would you say to refute that?

Easy answer, why would he want the sentinel program shut down when he can control them?

He was more concerned with showing the world mutant supremacy, I’m sure he wasn’t even thinking about the Sentinel program being a threat anymore once he took control.

I’m stupid and lazy, no one should deny this.

*Fixed*

So he didn't care if he started the war that would cost human and mutant lives alike?

What was his angle on that last presidential assassination attempt?

80% of the script is stupid and lazy, no one should deny this.

That's pretty inaccurate.

I'm guessing, to him at least, the war would be different, he would be using the sentinels for basically mutant domination, his plan is almost the same as it was in X2, using mankind's weapon against them. The future wouldn't be the same if he was successful.

In the end, I think he was more interested in winning the war instead preventing one.

Ahhh yes, that's exactly what I was thinking, I was just playing devil's advocate, it makes sense, but I already know what she'll say: "naah nah he's stoopid, grumble grumble" :lol

I was actually kind of annoyed that Magneto used the Sentinels to just blow up a few police cars. What is this, Terminator 2? He should have used those things to blow people away left and right. Imagine the impact that that scene could have had. But that entire showdown and not a single casualty on either side? Lame.

I’m sure you can convince her.

One more thing, his little speech at the end was essential to getting mutants to join the Brotherhood. I can’t wait to see what Brotherhood members join the team.

You've become far too bloodthirsty, Khev. You must have read too many Image comics as a kid :D From my POV, these are fantasy films. S'okay if people aren't needlessly slaughtered left and right. But thankfully, Zach Snyder is there for folks who feel otherwise. He gave you enough casualties for 20 comic movies in Man of Steel. I can only assume that number will increase exponentially in Superman V. Batman. Because it's the X-Treme thing to do, and Snyder is the modern film embodiment of Liefeld's legacy.

LOL. Yeah, I can see Wolverine chopping off the heads of Magneto's Brotherhood, Mags hurling steel posts through the chests of police officers, Sentinels soaked in blood and body parts. . .the more I think about it, the more I think Khev is going to be a HUGE fan of the forthcoming DC movies.

I wanted Magneto to make the Sentinels do this to everyone in the crowd. Would have been a great end to a children's superhero movie.

I hope Mystique dies.

Karamazov disagrees. He thinks the most exciting movies are the ones where NO ONE dies. I remember him carrying on about how Star Wars would have been so much better if no rebel pilots died at the end, no TIE Fighters blew up, and the Death Star simply "went to sleep" (whatever that means.)

:lol

Pretty sure I saw parachutes pop open after those TIE fighters blew up.

:lol

Joking aside no deaths as a result of a climactic battle in a fantasy adventure film is kind of lame. It was still a very good movie, best X-Men film even, but there's something wrong when movies based on young adult books for girls (Twilight and Hunger Games) have more peril in them.

That's my problem with what is an otherwise good movie, better than it had any business being.

Not only did Cap 2 have more action, better action, it also had some bad **** going down at the end, Cap allowing WS to pummel his face while DC is crumbling both literally and metaphorically around him.

DOFP, we got a sleeping Wolverine in his most bad ass costume and blades yet and an end battle where Magneto takes out his anger on 1970s gas guzzlers.

I don't want to hear about QS spinning plates again. :lol
