Re: Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past

I never liked her as storm. Sure she's beautiful, but she played storm without the strength I associate with the character. And by strength I mean strength of character, bravery and intensity.

I always pictured Angela Bassett as Storm. She may be too old now though.

Again, not her fault. :tap

Re: Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past

I hope Moira and Emma come back, but neither of the actresses are confirmed.

Would be strange if they weren't in it since Moira was Pro X woman and Emma was recruited by Magneto at the end of FC.

Eh, maybe Singer can take half the blame for not telling her to play it stronger, but judging by the script of both X1 and X2 they had Storm have her moments. Berry just played those scenes a little too soft and vulnerable.

And I had mentioned this a few pages back about the Storm/Toad line:

...the point of the joke is that the obvious answer to that question ("Do you know what happens to a toad when it's struck by lightning?") is "croak".

The "Joss" joke is that she didn't say the expected answer "croak".

Plus, Joss's other line that stayed in the movie was the Wolverine line, "You're a d*"

So maybe it's ultimately a lame joke no matter the delivery. But I'm willing to bet that if Joss had directed the movie, or if the joke had been used in Buffy or Angel or the Avengers, it would have worked.

Re: Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past

If they set the early Xmen in the 70's they will potentially young versions of Storm, Scott, and Jean.

Re: Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past

I really get tired of people trashing Berry as Storm. She was cast. Though not my first choice I think she does a serviceable job with the script she's given. I have numerous problems with this iteration of the X-Men from the costumes and art direction, to the depiction of powers, to storylines, to casting. As for casting I thought Famke (one of the most beautiful women in HW) was also miscast and too old. Iceman was poorly writen. Sabretooth was mishandled completely. Rutger Hauer might have been a better Magneto. I hope this is the last one and they finish in style. Then I'd like to see a complete reboot with new direction and tone, an all new cast, and art direction that is more comic influenced similar to The Avengers.

Re: Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past

I think people see her as having baggage from some other crap films she's done (Catwoman) and hold her responsible for a lot of the problems in X-Men 1 & 3. I agree, it's a mistake to assume it's her fault.

She's hardly unique in wanting her character to be more fully developed in a sequel before signing on. "Oh sure, I'll just stand in the background"

Re: Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past

Damn. Rutger Hauer could have been an EPIC Magneto. Frankly, Gandalf doesn't strike the kind of fear in your gut that Batty could, and he doesn't come off as the kind of ruthless true believe that I bet Hauer could pull off.

Man. . .that would have been so f'ing cool.

The main problem with the "joke" besides the delivery is that stupid added on "The same thing that happens to everything else." line which wasn't needed and really came across as eye rolling bad.

Wizard magazine posted their ideal cast of X-Men for years in the 90's and they always listed Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Rutger Hauer as Magneto. At least Singer picked one of them but damn if he wasn't so attached to his gay friend from Apt Pupil. If only.

Re: Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past

I remember Wizard having Stewart in one I read, but don't remember Hauer. I do remember they chose Danzig as Wolverine and Michael Biehn as Cyclops. Which would have both been pretty good choices in their way :lol

Re: Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past

Ian McKellan is a fantastic actor an I've enjoyed him in the X films but he isn't a classic Magneto. Hauer in his prime would have been perfect, but he's not a menacing on screen today as he was in Blade Runner.

I know who Glen Danzig is but I went to look at some pics anyway. He would have been perfect.

Re: Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past

Not only did he have the look, but he was a shrimp :lol

Mckellan gave class to the role. His hatred of humankind gives him a ruthless nature imo.
He seems too sophisticated and aloof in some ways. Hauer. . .he's a guy who you can see getting his hands dirty. He's also got "crazy eyes." McKellen feels more like a politician while Hauer seems more like the field leader Mags in the comics was.
