As luck would have it Sony called and asked what I'd do and I said exactly that, "Make it all free. Try to do as much damage as possible to MS as early as possible and take away as many of their customers as they can." Then I said, "Give Whale and Dolphin a break"

Hehe, MS doesn't need Sony's help damaging themselves. They're shady policies and money grubbing practices are doing a bang up job of that already. They're not even trying to hide how much they suck these days.

I'll admit, that's incredibly shady if they're touting those features of the Xbox1, but neglecting to say that you must have Gold membership.

Anyone really surprised Live Gold is required? I mean, its not like Live is new, right?

Surprised? No. I'm not surprised by anything MS has planned anymore. I've given up on them doing the right thing for their customers.

I just don't get the whole, 'OMG, its behind a paywall' argument....for myself in the last two years, thanks to online deals, that paywall amounts to $3 a month

Not the end of the world?

It's $3 for a free service though. That's the problem in this case. The Xbox is the only device I know of where access to programs like Netflix isn't free. It reeks of cheap money grubbing.

I'm considering doing the same, but I might cave. It's always had for me to not have a console that's available.

even an unboxing video gets thumbed down .. any detail of xbox one is thumbed down .. Sony Fanboys know more of xbox One than the PS4 .. it gotta be

Why the hell are you buying an Xbox for Netflix? I have like about 8 devices I can watch netflix. Most TVs have it built in today , why use an extra device?

Not many people have TV's that do that, of the things plugged into my TV, the PS3 and Xbox 360 can do that type of stuff. We would use the PS3 for those things, but for instance it doesn't have HBO Go, but we're not paying for Xbox Live just for that. Most people don't have more than one console, so it could be a situation where the only media device connected to your TV is the Xbox and you don't play multiplayer but you do want to watch Netflix and other apps. There's no reason you should be required to pay for Xbox Live to be able to access apps that are either a free service or you're already paying for them. There's no reasonable explanation for restricting the ability to use something like the Internet browser that has absolutely no connection to the services that Microsoft provides.

Did someone say they were? Just as an example, my bro is a very casual gamer. Plays occasionally and doesnt have gold. He bought a sub to Netflix not realizing he needed gold to use it. I gave him a gold membership so he could watch it. I didnt know that myself until he ran into that wall. The point is that its an unnecessary restriction that no one else has. MS could've easily made Netflix available to anyone and simply chose not to.

Smart TVs are still relatively new. When you consider how many folks still dont have HD....
