I give MS credit for their design of the 360 from the get. Aesthetically at least. NOW SONY should be ashamed of that HUGE HULKING OVAL shaped monster they orginally put out. The design out now should have been the original. The original was like the size of the first VCR'S!!

Wasn't the original reason it was big because they put the ps2 processor and crap in there?

I heard they plan to release some sort of Blu Ray attachment or something though quite frankly, they should have done that the moment HDDVDs became obsolete.

There were rumors about that years ago but nothing ever came of it.

They're pushing the streaming media right now. I would say it's likely that next console generation that the next Xbox will have a Blu-Ray drive, simply for the ability to use more data. But right now they don't want to do it since it would seem like giving in to Sony.

Yeah I think they are going for the streaming video and although Sony would make some money with the BR technology (along with other companies I believe) but it would take one of the reasons away to own a PS3/4.

Oh I'm sure Microsoft will do it eventually. But licensing Blu-Ray technology would require them to pay money to Sony, plus it would seem like giving in. Also if they wait then the it'll be cheaper for them. And at this time if they had an Xbox 360 with Blu-Ray then the only thing that it would do is allow you to watch Blu-Ray movies since Blu-Ray games would not be compatible with older consoles.

Good point about the compatibility...maybe the next iteration of the Xbox and I imagine it would be a good idea since hopefully the games will need more storage because of their awesomeness.

:rotfl:rotfl This is true, but I still prefer my old 60gb PS3 to the new Slim. I don't have to have a PS2 to play my old games, and it has all kinds of card reader slots that I have yet to use. :yess:

I think the new 360 design is really slick looking, but it's a little too late in the lifecycle IMO.

Pretty sweet System Mod

Damn, that was pretty awesome. Looks really awesome, even without the mod, the system istelf is awesome looking. As stated above, I think its a little late.

It's just like Sony going to the slim, neither is trying to gain a definitive advantage or anything, just trying to sqeeze a few more sales in and keep improving and keeping things fresh. It's not like the 360 is struggling and needed a redesign, heck everyone knows the risk when they buy one and they keep buying them.

Personally though I don't like the shiney look, it shows up too many blemishes and scratches. I love the MF2 subdued black/gun metal version.

$199 Xbox 360 Slim Confirmed

$199 Xbox 360 Slim Confirmed
Microsoft to ship additional hardware bundle this fall.
June 21, 2010
by Jim Reilly Microsoft has confirmed it will ship a $199 version of its new Xbox 360 console this fall, a representative told IGN.

The company unveiled its latest Xbox 360 console redesign at E3 last week, but only announced a $299 retail sku, which includes built-in WiFi and a 250 GB hard drive.

Microsoft did not offer additional details about the $199 sku.

The hardware maker is currently looking to remove the old Xbox 360 models from retailers, offering a $50 price cut on both the Arcade and Elite bundles in North America.

A purported internal marketing Q&A document obtained by Kotaku states Microsoft will also ship bundles that include Kinect, its upcoming motion camera due out this fall. Microsoft would not comment on those reported details, however.

I actually read it from a friends google reader, but I tried to go to the main site to get the link, but its blocked at work.

So go there and if its not on the front maybe do a search for it. It doesnt really say all that much, but it does have pic and the error code.

Lol...they removed the red lights to hide the RROD.

"Reports of Xbox 360 hardware failures are already surfacing in some numbers, suggesting Microsoft may yet maintain its unrivalled reputation for producing quality hardware, despite cunningly removing the red LED from the unit in order to “solve” the RRoD problem.
Overheating problems seem to be the major issue, resulting in quite severe problems:

Possibly Microsoft would have done better to wait until the winter…
Another user apparently demonstrates the handy propensity of the unit to shut itself off in order to avoid heat damage.

The red ring of death has reportedly been upgraded to a green dot of death, just one of the many reasons the Xbox 360 Slim is fast shaping up to be an essential purchase."
