I strongly recommend those shows, along with the 90s Batman, the Animated series. Although animated, they offer more adult themes and complexity most of the DC movies dare not venture into.
Superman worked with Reeves because he was a good and idealistic hero. Superman Returns didn't really offer anything new, or offer a compelling villain.
Snyder's Superman isn't really Superman. He doesn't really want to be a hero. He does a few heroic things, but he also seems to have contempt for humanity. In BvS they build a statue to him, even though he helped destroy their city and does things that make you question his motives. BvS there isn't really a big differerence between the somewhat sad, depressed, ultra violent vigilante (superman), and the depressed, angry, ultra violent vigilante (Batman.)
What they should have done have done in BvS is contrast the two. Make Superman all about helping people, redeeming himself. Helping to repair metropolis after he killed thousands fighting Zod. Restraining his power.
Batman then would be a good antithesis. His dark violence vs Superman's gentle brightness.
Honestly what we needed was a movie where Brainiac or something invades earth. Maybe have Batman show up to help since he is an established character. Make a compelling villain, like they did with 89 villain and the dark night.
MCU is just infinity better. They INVESTED in their product. They have a vision. They let things develop over several movies. They are not afraid to be funny. They are not afraid to be dark, they killed half the universe in a movie, which is bold for a Disney product.
