Is this a re-release of the same knockoff guard from last year? That one seemed to be a pretty small release number.

Checking Big Breda's review of the earlier release, they look like they could be the same:




Kit still has the other set, listed as "FHD02 Red Guard".

The newer version has a body and stand.

Any issues with the previous release? Looks like a carbon copy of the HT version. Now that I finally have a Palps in the collection I may grab a couple of these.

I think this confirms they're from the same source:

FHD01 was the Emperor kit, which came with a stand:



The stand is the same style used by Yan Toys and their extended family (Mars, Saturn, S-Hero, DAF, Bee and Six Feet Lane Studios).

Only issue was a line on the robe where a layer underneath was glued to the outer fabric. Takes a lot of futzing to hide the line. The pics of this new version seem to lack it so maybe they fixed it. Other than that, pretty similar to HT

I'm perfectly happy with the original release. And it definitely beats paying the Ebay price for a Royal Guard.

Now do I sell my Hot Toys one ASAP to purchase two of these?

is that emperor set still available?

I never got the set that’s been available for a while. Maybe I’ll get this instead since it’s a full figure. Have one Guard but a second would pair nicely.

This version is available at KG Hobby, you have to sign it to see it in the members section of pre orders.

When will someone make a Senate Guard? As long as they don’t do the open face version with the plume, they should be relatively simple. I always liked how they evolved the design language.

Yan is also Mars...?

I got two of the last Royal Guard sets; one was fine, but the collar folds on the other’s robe were completely mangled and look terrible.

According to Kit they were once connected, as were/still are all the companies in that list. Yan's connection to the 'family' still lingers through their choice of stand.

That's so weird... wasn't there a Yan Riddler and a SixLane Riddler? Also, a Yan Penguin that got cancelled but the Mars/SixLane is still coming?

It definitely is a strange family, and there was possibly a falling out between some of them.

The link was described as Mars being connected to DAF, which is a group comprising the other names (apart from Saturn which is a straight up alternate Mars 'brand'). The DAF group is funded by several investors.

I don't know the present status of them all, which is why I referred to them en masse as an extended family. Some may currently be 'estranged'.
