1:1 Ironman Bust Review and Thoughts
I received my bust yesterday via UPS. I felt like I was under house arrest knowing I had to be home to sign for the package. Sideshow after all has a policy that any items over $100 must have a signature upon delivery. Nope, not this time. The UPS guy just walks up, DROPS the box on my doorstep and then takes off.
I open the door and see the same bone chilling sight many of you have as well. The package looks as if its been attacked by the UPS shipping raptors. Claws marks all over. Reminds me of the opening scene in Ace Ventura when Ace is kicking the package down the hallway.
Huh um, anyways...beside the fraying of the box, I am captivated for a moment. Here in front of me lies the treasure I have been awaiting for 7 months. Delay after delay and it has arrived. Ironman is on my doorstep.
I naturally feel like a child again and want to let out a EEEEEEK! But I quickly remember I am 26 and calmly pick up the box. Wow, this sucker is heavy.
The package lays in the middle of my floor and I carefully cut the tape lines as to not damage his cryo chamber.
The rough exterior that displays this is #599 is opened to reveal clever box art with a huge Ironman sticker and descriptions of Tony Stark and his space aged suit.
The untouched mint box is opened to reveal the styrofoam crypt. It proudly displays SIDESHOW across the middle. I cut along the quality control stickers that envelope the sides and....................................
WOW!
There he is. The wait is over. My heart rate elevates slightly. I feel like I have some priceless artifact from a museum.
Now that the wonderment has had time to sink in my review of the 1:1 scale Ironman Bust from Sideshow Collectibles in conjunction with Stan Winston Studios.
At first glance this piece does look like a museum piece. What everyone on the boards has been saying is correct. This looks so much more majestic in person than in pictures or even SOLIDSNAKE's very nice Youtube video review. The color of the paint is spot on despite some of the comments I have read. With the right lighting, this looks like its off the screen.
Actually I am quite surprised this piece doesn't cost more. A lot went into this. There are many parts and while yes there are some rough places on the inside of the neck-this really isnt visible unless you are going over it with a magnifying class and shoving your fingers in the crevises. If a spectator walks in, their jaw will drop and they will be impressed. Even those who are not into collecting or Ironman I think would have respect for this piece.
If you do not have this piece and you can swing the price tag ($585 at apcollecibles.com or $629 Alter Ego Comics where I got mine) then I would suggest you do. It will instantly become your centerpiece and add so much to your living space.
For those who have been finding flaws, think about the fact that even the movie costume up close probably isnt as pretty and perfect as you might think which the same could be said for most hollywood props. This is a pretty close representation and I am proud to own the late and great Stan Winston studios last piece.
The light up feature is amazing and the size of this thing looks like you could wear it. You almost expect it to move its so much like the real thing.
Pros: Size, weight, accuracy to prototype, detail, paint, light-up feature,
Cons: Some parts probably should have been metal like the silver bars across neck and the silver rivets on front and back.
The inside of the neck has rough paint, unsanded.
I really believe that once you have this piece you wont consider reselling it. I also believe this is the next Clean Endoskeleton. It may have a number of 1500 pieces but it is already at the top of many collectors 1:1 busts and I predict the price of this increasing in the next few years.
This is my first Sideshow piece to display. Most of the ones I have purchased have sat in my closet and I would flip them but this one those that begs to be kept and displayed.
I want to thank you guys in this forum. It was a long wait and I would jump in here from time to time to read about your thoughts and pass the time while waiting for this to finally arrive. Thanks Solidsnake for all your comments and videos as well. Im a fellow PITUVISION viewer! lol He got me into collecting.
I may do an in depth review of the bust soon going over all its parts.
Thanks guys and keep collecting. If you have any questions about the bust just PM me but I must say, this is truly a worthy piece. Don't wait to try and get this down the road for a steal. I just dont think its gonna happen. Also, good luck to those still waiting for yours and I hope it comes in mint condition. I have read about the nightmare stories and hopefully everyone gets that sorted out.
