Roy, u say that's a cold cathode saber? i thought for the cathode saber u had to have that big power source and wires outside of the body. have u gotten them concealed in the bod?

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

also question for DA, Mikey and other repainters. do u guys remove all the existing factory paint or do u paint right over top of it? thanks

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

My Obi-Wan FINALLY arrives today! It's felt like it's taken forever since the 3-5 day notice for me to get him!

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

Magnuz, that is a great pose! One of the things I'm trying to do is come up with different ways to pose all these Jedi. I don't want ignited sabers in everyone's hands. Your Obi-Wan pose is straight out of the movie - I'd forgotten about Ewan doing that until I saw your picture. I may have to borrow that pose. :monkey3

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

Mine just arrived! As nice as these pics are, he looks even better in person. I may have a new favorite figure.

Thanks for the inspiration...I've got mine strking that pose now too....truly one of the iconic ones for the character.

This is hands-down, my favorite SS figure so far!

I do the same as Mikey... usually just paint right over it. I tried removing paint once and it ended badly. That figure paid the price for my idiocy...:monkey2

Somehow I still made it work, but I would not recommend any one else try and remove the paint apps. It's best to either Paint the head with primer and repaint it or just go over the initial paint apps... Either way works, just matters how you want to do it.

SSC Paint is usually pretty thin, but not as much as HT or Medicom....

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

i used acetone (pure) to remove the paint a couple times.
works well, but it will erode away some details if you scrub too hard or leave it with acetone too long.
It brings out good detail if done right those.
factory paint is usually pretty thick in areas like the eye, etc.
combining with rubbing alcohol and acetone will fix the "erode of details" problem

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

Ugh. it's just not worth the effort and time it takes. Between the paint melting and getting wedged into the crevices and the acetone scoring away the detail, I'd rather just paint over it. The infinitesimal amount of detail lost is so negligable as to be totally unoticable. I've never noticed improved quality, just aggravation and wasted time. But that just me.

Dittos. Same here.

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

The nice thing is, if you make a mistake or don't like something, you can always paint over it or use acrylic thinner or isopropyl alcohol to take it off.

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

DA, Les: It's nice to know I'm not the only one of the three of us. I was feeling a little guilty about being lazy....:monkey3 :lol

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

thanks for the info Mikey, DA, and Les. i was just curious because i'd heard that the factory paint could bubble up sometimes if painted over, and the one time i tried it (on a CY Girl's lips) it did just that. probably a fluke on my part

Come to think of it, when I painted a CY Girl, I did strip the paint off of her first. I wanted more natural make-up. The factory apps made her look like the Tusken Raider in Teras Kasi. It was for my only Mara Jade custom. Looked damn fine. Some guy got it on ebay for his girlfriend. Alls I'm saying is that, for what he paid, she better have given him some of her sweet, sweet pie, you know?

Anyway, I don't mind doing it for heads that have limited apps, but Sideshow covers the entire head in paint! No way I'm going through that nightmare with naught but nail polish remover and some q-tips.
