Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

That's a really nice repaint!

Oh man, my Obi Wan should be here by the end of the week!!! This is sooooo cool!!!

I think I'm I'm gonna take some of figures down for painting this weekend, been meaning to do a little touch up here and there, so I might as well do it all at once. Great stuff!

And I agree anyone not opening these suckers up really shouldn't bother with them. They are way to much fun to leave all boxed and bored looking!

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

I love my Obi-Wan. It's awesome. The hair could be a bit lighter, but meh, not enough to gripe really. Redressing him from the way he was out of the box makes a bigger difference than I thought though. Killer. Just killer.

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

Thanks guys.... I too think some blonde highlights could do nicely here. But the costume is wonderful. I soaked the parts seperately and wrapped rubber bands around his feet to get the boots on without bunching up the pants.

The tunic works wonderful when wet and when it dries it stays put! But remember the belt.... it's stains like a MO FO!!

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

Another winner, DA. I think the eyework on this one rivals your Superman repaint.

Amazing!

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

Hard to judge, in photos, the hair color looks too one shaded and too light to me, but it's still a nicer effort than others I've seen.

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

Very nice Josh! The flesh tones are excellent and I see you used a "similar but different" color palate for the hair and beard and he looks terrific. :D

Btw, my now "famous" Josh repainted Obi head came today and I am still stunned by it. At first the hair and beard looked simple shades of light brown with no red in it at all, then in different sunlight it looked completely different, hair a bit darker and beard with blonde and reddish highlights. It's really trippy how the beard catches different lights and throws off different colors, sometimes blonder, other times light brown with reddish tones... in the shade almost brownish and in direct sunlight it almost appears fleshtoned, it's nuts I tell ya, NUTS! Like three different paintjobs in one, I am now calling like the "amazing miracle color-changing Obi head!!!" :D

Thanks so much Josh, will have it mounted tomorrow, it is actually still a bit tacky so he is staring out an open window looking west towards the Pacific!

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

Wow.....thanks guys! I appreciate the comments very very much. It's crazy how he looks on the shelf, I mean... it's like Paul said... the color variations are very subtle and catch the light depending on how you have it displayed.

PS.... I am very very happy that you got the head Paul, and that you are happy. The tackiness should subside soon... I know that the sealer I use tends to not want to dry for waaay too long.. :D

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

No worries Josh. Hey, like you said, I can't stop looking at him now so I can only imagine what he looks like as a complete figure, stay tuned! :D

Hey there,

Really admire the re-work of your Obi-Wan and the photos are great, but a question about your "water treatment"? How long are you soaking the clothes on the figures? Are you dis-robing the figures or are you, like you said, wrapping the legs with rubber bands and soaking the figure with his clothes on? And am I correct in assuming you are soaking the clothing fabric in just plain water? Maybe you use "distilled water" to keep the flouride or lime deposits from drying on the fabric.

One thing I'd like for my own Jedi figures is to figure out how to make the inner tunic ride a little higher on the neck. Not quite like a "turtle neck" but a little more than what it does out of the box.

I really like your re-paints of the heads but I don't trust myself enough yet to try and highlight my own figures.

Did I misunderstand or does some of the posts say you do repaints for other collectors?

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

Ok, finally got my DarkArtist repainted Obi head remounted on my figure, although it is still a bit tacky and needs to dry more... and took just a quick shot of many shots I'll take in differing lights and (better) poses, keep in mind I had to pose him in shadow because the sun is blazing in from the west here in L.A. but you get a bit of an idea how he appears fully figured. :D

Looks great from what I can see! Seems like Josh really outdid himself!! :clap :D

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

Thanks Carbo,
pics cannot capture the beauty of Josh's repaint, he looks so different in different lights, this pic is pretty dark. I'll get more pics up soon and you'll see what I mean... totally amazing repaint :D

BTW, this is the first OBI head repaint Josh did and the one which garned so many raves on this thread and even RS.

Thanks Adam! I declothed the figure and wet the clothing seperately piece by piece with distilled water. I lay them out for about 30 minutes, laid out flat and wrinkle free. Then after I'm done with my repaint I clothed the figure, taping his ankles so that the boots go on without wrinkling the pants.

I wrapped a rubber band around his stomach to keep the under-tunic wrapped tightly.... to get that same effect you were talking about, with the "turtle neck". It really helped keep his clothes in the same spot.

And yes Adam... I DO indeed repaint heads for other collectors... :D

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

Wow....thanks a LOT guys! That head looks fantastic mounted!! Too bad it's still tacky. I hate my sealer, it always does that to me. I seriously need to switch out and change that stuff. It does dry eventually, just takes forever.

Can't wait to see more pics of it Paul!!! :chew
