thanks guys! the funny thing is,decadentdave, i didn't repaint the eyes, i just worked on the beard and hair. haha it might have been a glair but i didnt touch them!

That's how I asked DA to repaint mine too.

The SSC paint apps on the face and eyes were extraordinary I thought, so we just did a hair and beard repaint.

-Yea thats what i thought about mine too, obi's hear was too dark, but his face was prefectly fine. did DA use that matte finish spray on obi's head? if so it is dry yet, i still need to find a good matte finish for mine.

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

I prefer brush-on sealer because you can isolate specific areas and it won't create a sheen on the figure.

I think so and it took a long time to dry but you'll have to ask him. :D

yea haha i did ask DA- he said that it takes awhile to dry- but i dont want to wait that long either, i might just have to try that Dave, ive heard that from more than one person and they all say that it works well. i guess it makes better sense to because i dont want to spray the face anyway, just the hair and beard-thanks-

Yeah Curt... After seeing what has happened with Pjam's Obi... I think I am gonna stop using the stuff. If it takes nearly a week to dry, that could be a problem... I've heard that brush on matte sealer works better but I still can't find any. I might have to ask Les for what he uses, I know he'd know of something better...

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

I just use this all-purpose sealer that I bought at Michael's for $2. I think it's made by Americana or one of those companies that makes the paint. It dries about as fast as the paint.

My solution?

I propped mine in front of a fan overnight, in the morning it was 90% dry to the touch, well worth the wait, it is stunning.

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

I use Citadel Clear Matte Varnish. Comes in a spray can. I get it from those stores where people actually paint and play with those little metal figurines on big tables with fields sculpted on them. I also get my primer there.

I've never tried a brush on sealer. My knee jerk reaction is that if it dries while you're putting it on, it could tear at the paint. Also that it would create brush strokes over the work, which would eliminate some detail. Maybe I'm wrong.

Funny tidbit: in the beginning, when I knew nothing, I used to seal the paintwork with a mix of water and elmer's glue! It worked great except getting the head wet rebooted the glue, making the work melt. Some of us are methodical and learn before doing. Some of us are ridiculously stupid and learn BY doing. :lol

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

I love the Kenobi and agree his hair could be lighter and more reddish. What paint is good for drybrushing on lighter highlights and some gray? And if I do so, should I use that spray-on sealer?

I believe the shops are called Games Workshop. Unless Customikey is refering to a local shop.

Thanks for the tip Mikey.... I will certainly have to switch. The sealer I use is CRAP-O-LA!!! :lol

But at least it's not Elmers Glue... :D

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

I really think Citadel paints are overpriced. WAYYY overpriced. Last time I bought a pot it was around 3.50 for a small pot. I wonder if they jacked the prices again since I stopped painting my miniatures...

Re: 12" Obi-Wan IMAGE Thread

I consistently use Americana or Delta Ceramcoat that I buy at Michael's. They are cheap and just as good as the more expensive stuff, IMO. The brush-on sealer dries without any visible brush strokes.
