Meth head Luke? At one point Hamill appeared heading that direction smoking those scavenged cigarette butts.

It’s no contest with hood up.

SS Luke head looks better than HT ROTJ

Hell it might even be no contest with hood down lol
Yea...I had the first HT ROTJ Luke when it originally released and sold it after a month of having it. I got the SS version earlier this year (brand new and about $40-50 less than retail) and I really like it. I retailored the suit a bit and repainted the hair to be more like the HT along with giving it a HT base. With those changes, it fits in just fine with my other HT figures and I actually like it more than the HT one I had. I would like the boots and gloved hands from the HT DX though. I really think one of the many skilled painters out there (like 357partment) could really bring out the likeness in the SS sculpt. If I knew how to take good pics with my very old phone (by today's standards), I would share.

Do you have any close-ups in your thread of the darkening of the teeth/mouth? I was thinking about doing that. HT tends to make the teeth on headsculpts a little too bright.
Not that I can recall unfortunately. He's boxed up at the moment as I'm renovating my collection room in September.
I simply watered down some black acrylics and applied it bit by bit with a thin brush until it was dark enough. I did the same in between the eyebrows to make his expression just a bit more determined, while trying not to overdo it.

I may need to file for some level of state assistance.

You spreading yourself too thin. Ditch the marvel and DC stuff.

Im pretty much od’d on marvel hot toys stuff and I only got the MKiv pink panties version.
I 've got 25 Star Wars POs currently haunting my soul relentlessly everyday, the numbers might rise exponentially towards the end of 2021.

If you’re buying 25+ characters you really should consider looking at the mafex and Sh figuarts stuff. Much much more affordable. It still in that plastic toy category but it’s definitely more premium than the black series toys.

Hot toys for me is only for the most iconic characters.

So far it’s been a pretty ok money saving rule. Except every now and then you get a company like threezero throw out some awesome piece like a Rambo which right this very moment im fighting the urge to pull the trigger and I’m not even a Rambo or sly fan.

Costume:

  • One (1) black-colored Jedi cloak

Is the cloak wired? (would say if it was?) Or just some great photo-shoot phakery?

Figuarts hasn't announced a Star Wars figure in months, they last delivered The Armorer. Mafex has only just released the first Mando and IG-11 is on preorder but otherwise hasn't made a Star Wars figure since TLJ. They both leave huge gaps for collections.

This is one of the reasons I switched to Hot Toys - I'd see all the figures I wanted being released by Hot Toys, but crickets from Figuarts and Mafex.

Ex-figuarts collector here as well. Considering how many people have bought both the Figuarts AND Mafex Mando in the hope of owning a good representation of the character, with some also buying the BS version AND model kit, the price I paid for an almost perfect Hot Toys Mandalorian is starting to look like extremely good value.

I collect lot of Mando figures for both Black Sereis and Shf may get Mafex
Really happy with the custom Black series one as I custom it to have season 2 look.
I agree that better off buying hot toys but not all want it in that scale or have the budget for it.

The scale is something one gets used to, the same way many collectors showed so much resistance when we started getting six inch SW toys a decade ago, and then for the most part capitulated. Price, space issues and character variety are all very valid points for not wanting to upgrade, not denying they aren’t. But as I said, considering the sheer number of figures the average six inch import collector buys without being any closer to owning the definitive version of a character, buying HT shouldn’t be seen as such a ridiculous jump. I mean, I must have bought six or seven different stormtroopers in six inch: the original BS, Revoltech, three SH Figuarts, Mafex … and none of them came remotely close to the perfection of one HT stormtrooper, for way more than the price of the HT.

I just pre-ordered the regular DX version of this without the Dark Trooper. At first I was thinking about getting the Deluxe DX, but that half-trooper would only be used for a few pictures and would remain in the box after that. So I figured that's like € 40 that I can better use towards other figures.

Ah that’s true actually. I haven’t really been closely following mafex and figuarts since I last bought figures from the force awakens.
Very surprised they haven’t really added much Star Wars stuff to the lineups since then.

You know I kinda agree. I recently opened up all my unopened and boxed mafex figures and as these things usually go, I soon found myself scouring the Internet to see what’s the latest on mafex and figuarts. And lo and behold, I was quite shocked at the recent price increases. Quite a jump. Last time I bought mafex stuff was during the force awakens movie.

For the price of 3 Mafexes, you could probably get a hot toys figure. And I agree that the experience of opening up a brand new premium 6th scale figure is such a treat.

But I do think 6 inch/7 inch figures are lots of fun to collect. I got the ROTJ boba fett at my desk right now. And I love it for the simplicity and ease to switch up the pose. Posing a hot toys figure is a much more involved process… just with the price I feel like I gotta be more careful.

But the way the prices are rising, very soon it might not make too much sense getting these mafex figures.

As a lot of members have said, this head sculpt has far more Hamill in it than the previous releases. But with today’s overblown prices, I can’t justify buying another Luke Jedi figure, just so I can level up on the head sculpt. I’ll wait until the inevitable KO head sculpts pop up on eBay and grab a few of those Instead.

One thing I'll say is that they don't skimp on hands. The Mafex Mando comes with 16 different hands. Different hands for holding the pistol and rifle. That's one of my biggest complaints is the lack of hands for the Mando figures and you really do need 2 different gun hands for holding the rifle and holding a pistol.
