Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Sculpted hair and a botched likeness after two years and three tries, the second of which was actually decent.

This would happen to us Ripley fans, though. Very much par for the course.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I went on Hot toys Facebook page and all I see is another announcement for a fifth Black Widow figure. More Avengers no Ripley on Aliens Day? What a sin lol. Hot Toys is love hate relationship.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I dig the sculpted hair. The head and likeness looks about the same as the last one (the good one, the latest shown back in 2014 or whatever).

No preorder or official spec pics for today is a bummer though*. It's not any different than where they were at two years ago and there's still no official solicitation. Way to drop the ball.

*I'll eat my words if they do go up today, but I doubt it. Looks like the thousandth Black Widow figure holds priority over a simple Ripley figure. After seeing the crap they've pulled with Batman Returns and Back to the Future, wouldn't surprise me if we don't see official pics and orders until Summer or Fall.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

HOT TOYS: Hey... hey, look! Ripley and the Powerloader aren't dead, man. Their likenesses are real bad, but they ain't dead!

COLLECTORS: Then we go back in there and correct them.

HOT TOYS: **** that!

COLLECTORS: We don't leave the fanbase behind!

This is so nuts. I mean, listen - listen to what you're saying. It's paranoid delusion. How - It's really sad. It's pathetic.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

You know, kara, I don't know which license is worse. You don't see the Alien stuff ****ing the Avengers over for ******* exposure.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Oh I just noticed the cosbabies.

I'm assuming that's Hicks and Aliens Ripley holding Newt. I wish that line would just die. The selection for those Cosbabies are like a tease of things they won't even attempt in 1/6.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Trying to catch up on all the new posts from today. It looks like I'll be in the minority here, but I think the new face looks much more like Weaver/Ripley than the last one they showed us, at least from the front. Those side view pictures have me a little concerned, but we need better pics. Not really sure how I feel about the sculpted hair. It captures the styling better than the real hair, but I might have sacrificed a little styling to get the real stuff. At this point, I don't really care. JUST PUT IT UP FOR PRE-ORDER ALREADY!

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Go ahead and give us the sculpted version, I know the KO market will give us the rooted version eventually lol

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I'm pretty indifferent about the hair. Rooted and sculpted both look good, but the sculpted hair will certainly be easier to manage. But the new sculpt itself? I think it's the best yet.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Have to agree that new sculpt from the front looks most like Ripley. Last one wasn't that bad either though, surprised they revisited it yet again.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I think there is a problem with eyes... ¿crossed? And with a sad expression. Eyelids (upper) are "falling down" (sorry, my english is bad). Bad positioned.

This is the best option IMO... But I know that my opinion is weird for many of you...:rotfl

Completely agree. New sculpt looks depressed and somewhat underdeveloped (as in babyfaced).

I do like the volume of the rooted hair and, if they were to nail it, it would've felt like the figure had more value. As it stands now, it just feels like a cheap, half-assed effort on HT's part to silence the Alien fans so they can continue pumping out more Marvel. Same feeling I had with the Crow and that figure lasted no more than a month on my shelf.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

1000% improvement with sculpted hair :rock

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Her crew have been killed and shes next and you lot want a happy smiling sculpt??

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

If all of the Alien figures displayed in HT's booth were on sale again (new (?) Kane, Dallas, Powerloader, Big Chap as well as the new Warrior, Ripley) I would buy all of them without hesitation.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

The publicity photo isn't the best to use for comparisons, but it at least shows that the new sculpt got the jawline correct this time. It was a little too flat and wide before. That always bugged me about the rooted hair sculpt. I would have taken it though had that been what was offered. I think the cheekbone area looks a little more accurate as well. Someone mentioned the sad demeanor.....I guess I would prefer a little more intensity. Even the rooted hair version had a little of that.
