They have given us an inexpensive way to build a wine cellar and at the same time it can be used to display our Iron Legion.

Re: 1/6 - Hot Toys - IM3 - Hall of Armor (House Party Protocol Ver.) - Spec + Pic

Hmm $3,149 for 42 styrofoams pass.

Re: 1/6 - Hot Toys - IM3 - Hall of Armor (House Party Protocol Ver.) - Spec + Pic

That's not a good arguement at all, instead of addressing the issue, you target the individuals instead?

And as far as i know, in this thread there are more people complaining about said styrofoam material then praising it. I would call that a vocal majority. And its to bad that SSC is actually partnered with this forum..

And theres nothing else to really discuss about this fig besides the material and the price??

Not to gang up on you but your not really putting up a good arguement

The people that hate this made it personal first. It is hilarious how simple statements can be interpreted by some of the people on this forum. A well adjusted person that disliked an item wouldn't spend a lot of time reading about it just to post how much they hate it. You don't see me going into other threads constantly posting that I hate the item the thread is about, just like you don't see mt stalking the people that constantly troll my threads.

And on top of that there is no arguing or debate about this. There is only hybolic insults like this:

I would buy at least 42 for $0.00. Would you pay for shipping Y4NK33 PL4N3T?

I wouldn't pay anything for them.

Honeestly about $10 each would be my limit.

The complaint is that it is not worth $75 because it is Styrofoam. Ok, nothing we can do about that.

Now lets discuss how to make it not look like styrofoam or lets discuss how to make it look like it looked in the movie or lets discuss anything instead of posting over and over about how much it sucks that it's made of Styrofoam.

Re: 1/6 - Hot Toys - IM3 - Hall of Armor (House Party Protocol Ver.) - Spec + Pic

I suspect it's not so much that it's expensive styrofoam, but that people are telling us it's super-high-ultra-quality, specially coated or "value for money" styrofoam.

But I'm just here for the yuks, so feel free to take everything I say with a grain of salt....

Re: 1/6 - Hot Toys - IM3 - Hall of Armor (House Party Protocol Ver.) - Spec + Pic

They seem to be dropping in price on Ebay...Toys 2 has them for $69...the nice illuminated base alone is worth almost $30...

Re: 1/6 - Hot Toys - IM3 - Hall of Armor (House Party Protocol Ver.) - Spec + Pic

Hmm $3,149 for 42 styrofoams pass.

You would only need 35 of them so that's the bargain price of $2,624 :p

What will be amusing is if someone buys all 35 now and then HT later down the line decides to skip some of the armours!

Re: 1/6 - Hot Toys - IM3 - Hall of Armor (House Party Protocol Ver.) - Spec + Pic

To be honest, one of my main reasons for not liking this is not that it is made of styrofoam, it is that it looks like styrofoam. If they had been able to make it from styrofoam but somehow make it a bit more visually pleasing then I may be a little more inclined to give it a chance. For me, the little foam injection markings (if that is what they are called) needed to be covered up somehow so that from a reasonable distance people wouldn't be able to tell that it is styrofoam. I still wonder if maybe a nice coat of plasti-dip could make it look a bit better, but I am in no way a styrofoam expert. I do not know what could have been done during production or if the way they are releasing it truly is the best way for it to be.

Re: 1/6 - Hot Toys - IM3 - Hall of Armor (House Party Protocol Ver.) - Spec + Pic

HT could have just asked us for maybe $10-$20 more per figure, and just have them packed IN THESE. The base are almost the same as the standard bases of the recent IM releases anyway. But of course HT would rather go with the more lucrative option.

$70+ a pop? I know even the most hardcore of HT IM collectors know when to stop.

When they announced the original HOA's that was my sentiment exactly. They really missed the boat by making the HOA's well after they had begun the IM figure line. Any collector that was 5, 6, 7+ figures into the line already got sticker shock looking to pick up a 7-pack of HOA's or even more.

I think this is still a pretty good deal. I decided I'm not getting this. I cancelled my order but if these start to down in price I may have to pick a few up. You really don't see them in the movie so that's why I have to pass. I'm just going to save up and get the original Hall of Armor set. Either way they are very cool but not enough for me to buy especially $224 for 3.

Has someone made these claims?

I don't think anyone that has expressed interest in these have claimed the Styrofoam is special. In fact I think it's just the opposite. I have always stated that these were made from regular old Styrofoam like the packing the figures come in.

I am looking into various way to spray paint these with paint specifically made for Styrofoam. My plan is to buy one to see how hard it is to remove the back panel and light. If it comes out pretty easy I will try the various pains and post my results.

I have been saying that since my first post, but Hot Toys isn't doing that yet. However they did release the Thumper / Striker Diorama set that has half of a figure and the WCHOA (which is accurate to the movie) so there's hope.

You can always find good deals on the original version. I was waiting to get a good deal on a 7 pack to finish my 13 bay display and was lucky to get it for $604 shipped.

Then I was able to sell the extra HOA bay (I only needed 6), the extra walls, some hologram set and the acyclic panels and almost paid for that last set of 7.

I still have a bunch of the hologram sets and if they all sell I will have paid for the 7 pack with the left overs.

Right now I'm trying to figure out what I should do with the empty boxes, they take up a lot of space and I don't need them.

Re: 1/6 - Hot Toys - IM3 - Hall of Armor (House Party Protocol Ver.) - Spec + Pic

That's great, but Master Replica's isn't Hot Toys.
This forum has an absurd amount of members, believe me when I tell you that you aren't the only one with a friend in the industry.
The people here understand the costs associated with getting collectibles to the market, it isn't rocket science or some big secret.

People they're banking on buying this item not buying this product would matter to them.

The vocal minority isn't mocking the cheapo styrofoam, the vocal majority is.
You'll have unhappy customers for every product under the sun, that isn't news to anyone.

I know a lot about how SS works and through that how HT's does things... we are all being *****

Re: 1/6 - Hot Toys - IM3 - Hall of Armor (House Party Protocol Ver.) - Spec + Pic

Oh, so you were just posting the same "$75 for packing peanuts is a steal!" line over and over until someone responded and you could retort with that line to stroke your ego. Well, good work. Enjoy your remolded coffee cups.

Boba Debt has the tiniest ego on here... that why we call him "tiny ego"

:lol

Re: 1/6 - Hot Toys - IM3 - Hall of Armor (House Party Protocol Ver.) - Spec + Pic

You guys are funny, I never seen anyone on any forum read so much into a post then here. It is both hilarious and sad at the same time. Such fragile little egos....

Hahaha, puppet master post achieved.

One of the easiest ways is to lightly coat the piece of styrofoam to be painted with PVA wood glue. The thinnest coat will seal the styrofoam and allow it to be painted without the accelerant in the paint melting it. I do occasional pieces with extruded foam for dio work, but i usually use the melting effect to my benefit, so the surface will melt ever so slightly(for aged effects on brick walls). I wait for the paint to cure *then* give it a light coat of PVA.
But if you coat it before, the surface remains the same after painting.

Re: 1/6 - Hot Toys - IM3 - Hall of Armor (House Party Protocol Ver.) - Spec + Pic

The complaint is that it is not worth $75 because it is Styrofoam. Ok, nothing we can do about that.

There is.

1) Not buying it.

2) Pretty sure that if you offer to pay a dio builder $3k, you'll get an actual HoA cellar not made out of Styrofoam that's more screen accurate.

Based on your PM to me, I get the feeling you're serious about actually going through with buying a lot of these. That's your right, and more importantly your money, so do with it what pleases you.

But for what it's worth, I have the means and am enough of an IM fan to do the same, but I won't because I don't think it's good value for money. Because I would wake up one day, go into my living room, and realize I'm sitting on more Styrofoam than McDonald's in the 80's that cost the same as what a wearable suit of IM armor can be built for, and then subsequently spiral into a glue sniffing depression. But again, that's just me.

I don't like to get into these sort of discussions, but I'm a lot more surprised that someone would try to defend the product and price point here than I am that people are fighting you over it. If I were buying 35 of these, I wouldn't post about it when everyone is mocking it, then try to insist it's a good deal. Yes, you may have felt personally insulted, but you walked right up to the viper's den and jumped in.

Again, if it makes you happy, by all means. But I'd consider other options first. Username's vacuforming idea is worth a shot.

Yeah, I see the bundles can be had for a little under retail which I agree is nice and one day I will pull the trigger.

The $600 cost for the 7-pack covers 2 or possibly 3 figures, and with the SDDC reveals the HOA's will go further on the back burner. Plus, if I were to give each of my figs a HOA I;d need more than double the 7-pack. Ouch!
