i really wish this figure could achieve the accurate ground pound pose from the beginning test scene. it looks like it can approximate it.. but can't fully pull it off. i guess that's what happens when you're working with a physical toy with joints vs CG.

The main issue I found with it was the head doesn't tilt up high enough to look forward like DCMk3 does. I was able to get everything else down (I posted like old old pics almost over a year ago haha) but he would be looking downward at the ground and that's what bugged me, so I never put him in the pose again.

I had to scurry away from my desk to re-pose and photograph this for you (the benefits of a home office!). I remember when I first got this figure, I had no idea how to get him in this pose, but now it only takes me a quick minute to set up. The head can get a pretty good "straight on look" if you're willing to let it sit a little looser on the ball joint. Anyways, I love this pose and set him up like this for a night or two at least once a month. Happy collecting!

^ Only problem with that is when you look at him from a side angle, it looks really sloppy, like he's falling over or struggling to get up :lol Even in that photo, the legs aren't as upright and the body looks like it's falling forward. The DCmk3 really helped fix that with the switch-out torso. I got that pose out of him before, and there's a better one that I was able to get where the front knee bend is more upright and perpendicular on the base and the other back leg is off the base on the ground with a knee bend, the head just doesn't look up enough and it works as him landing and looking down, in that one, it's the waist articulation that limits it a bit, because the angle of the torso also affects the head as well. Some people were able to do it though, haha, but I don't know if there were some tricks involved or not, like the head not set in place or what not. Sometimes it's the angle of the photo that makes it look good, but when on display, it doesn't look as good from other angles. I might try to give it another try in the near future :lol

It's a beautiful figure, very hard to take a bad shot. I find myself wanting to hold onto him, but I fear I may need to let him and patriot go for the sake of space. The reverse colors make him pop, since Thor has a lot of red and Cap has some.

I'm going through that now unfortunately. Love that it stands out from the red on Thor and Spiderman but dang....my room is only so big haha.

those poses look fantastic, i don't have much of a problem with the head not being able to look up enough because at first he's looking down anyways. the problem is his left leg is super close, almost touching his chest. that's something that's physically impossible to achieve with a figure like this.

it's not a knock against the figure. and i think those poses all still look fantastic. i think it's awesome that hot toys saw how awesome that pose can look and has really tried to make it possible with a decent amount of their iron man figures. even though it's not 100% accurate, it's still close enough to look really cool and give the same feel.

i can't wait for this to arrive.. should be monday depending on the weather apparently. stupid tornadoes.

My first video! :lol I'm finally catching up to technology... I put these two bad cats together and let it spin! :yess:

Wow man, that's awesome. I would've never thought to add to clips to the pole.. I may have to borrow that set up.

My sentiments regarding this figure as well and why he stands out among the other IM figures for me.

I respect that honesty. I agree, some people say nice pics to everything (don't know if it's for post count or they can't tell the difference between a wonderfully shot photo and one not so much :lol) and I scratch my head thinking about some photos that aren't shot nicely whether it be the flash or a rigid/poor posing. I definitely prefer more constructive feedback if a pose looks weird so that I can adjust it and make it look better, and creativity is always thumbs up in my book. The natural lighting and angle of that shot looks great. Shows adding something subtle like a few bends and a hand gesture can do a big deal.

If somebody takes the time and makes the effort to take pics and upload them to Freaks, I'll typically respond. I can only imagine what it'd be like to post pics and not have anybody comment. If it's a really good pic or set of pics, I'll rep.

If the pic is blurry, poorly-lit or upside down, I won't comment. I'll just move right along. :lol Nice vid, BTW, dee-dubs. And sweet pic, Skillerwhale.

so.. i don't know why i hadn't ever watched the iron man 3 special features before. especially considering i really enjoy watching 'making of' featurettes. anyways.. 3 things struck me while watching them.

1. my appreciation for the movie. i've always been a person who liked this movie. i understand that there are plenty of people out there who don't.. but i've always liked it. and the special features really sunk home why i liked it... because it's a tony stark movie as well as an iron man movie. i like that tony has to figure things out without his suit and that the mark 42 came off as a character itself.

2. i've read a lot of people criticize marvel for not using practical suits anymore.. but in the special features i saw plenty of practical suit stuff. granted they'll all redone with CG after the fact, but it's still used. helmets, chest armor, arm armor.. it's all there.

3. wow RDJ is short.. i mean, i knew he was short (he's still taller than me though lol) but i wasn't aware of how short.. it's to the extent that he's practically wearing platform shoes in one shot, and is standing on a small catwalk looking thing when he's talking to pepper and maya prior to his house being blown up. that's nuts. i remember there being a discussion (not in this thread) about the height of a character vs. the height of the actor. well, i think that can officially be put to bed.

anyways.. the mark 42 i bought off of FeMan is currently in ohio with an expected delivery on monday.. i'm keeping fingers crossed that it'll arrive sooner. if the stars align, maybe today.. and i'm not sure if they do saturday deliveries for normal packages, but a saturday delivery would be excellent. if not, i can wait until monday... but just barely lol.

i'll usually do the same.. it's a shame there's really no such thing as constructive criticism for most people. it seems that the defense mechanism is quick to arrive with the slightest criticism. granted.. a lot of the time "constructive criticism" is presented in a ****-ish manner. oh well. i personally won't post a photo unless i legitimately believe it's awesome or important.

Well this is the right landing pose for this armor though. On the movie his knee doesn't touch the ground.

iron-man-3-suit.jpg

yeah, it is. but the figure just isn't able to crouch as low as the CG. it's close enough though.

the official hot toys shot looks beautiful. i wish the base they included looked exactly like the one from the movie. i know the house party figures bases look like it, but i'd prefer they be a bit thinner, and a tad longer in diameter. i'm not a big fan of the base it and the iron patriot/war machine mark 2 come with. it's probably the marvel hot toys base that i like the least. so, when i get it, i may have to swap bases with one of my house party figures.

I liked im3 too. And given its one the top 5 grossing films of all time (I think) it appears tens of millions of others agreed.

The height thing...yep. That was me making that point. Multiple times over the last few years. Most recently it was in the CW spider-man thread.

I personally try to comment on as many as I can not for post count, but because the person took the time to share their collection, or something in their collection with the rest of the community. Whether it's a good picture or not, I try to acknowledge them for doing so.

Sometimes, I'll give people helpful tips or advice in what they could do to potentially make a figure look better (at least from my perspective) but ultimately the decision is up to them since it's their figure and their collection.

Count me as another IM3 fan. More so for what it did with his character arc than the plot. Too often we get happily ever after (making the ultimate sacrifice at the end of Avengers) without seeing what happens after. Well, that **** will mess some people up, and that's where they took Tony Stark lol.

Also enjoyed that they incorporated extremis, have a love/hate relationship with having more Tony and less Iron Man, and loved the Mandarin until the twist. I'd say the final battle was my least favorite part. I personally would've enjoyed if the Mk42 was fixed for the final battle but maybe that's just me.

It's an awesome armor. All the gold definitely took some getting used to. Definitely makes it unique though and I think the battle damaged pieces are awesome.

I liked the film but I don't count it as one of my top Marvel movies. It's a great Tony Stark film, but not so much an Iron Man (the suit) film.

yup, that's where i remember it from. you're absolutely right. it was really funny seeing that platform and those shoes.

wow..

since transformers are what i've been collecting the longest.. the gross of movies never really means much when it comes to whether people like it or not. to me, it just says that a lot of people wanted to see it. i've learned the hard way that just because a movie grosses a TON of money, doesn't mean it was any good. i guess i'm just jaded because of them.

i agree about the after effects.. i really liked the way they handled that.

since i'm not someone who's full on in with the comics, i didn't mind the mandarin twist. i actually quite liked it at the time. but it's a double-edged sword. i liked that the twist was unexpected, but i wish they had handled the character better.. at the end, i was kind of hoping it'd be revealed that the mandarin really was in control the whole time.

as for the final battle.. it's actually one of my favorite parts in the movie. some of the sequences are really cool. sure, i wish the 42 played a bigger role at the end, but i enjoyed the way it came in and how tony used it, it was definitely interesting.

it's not just that it's predominantly gold, it's the type of gold they used and the way it looks with the red splashed in. i just think it works perfectly. i know A LOT of people like the 43, but when i compare the two i think the 43 winds up looking, not boring, but a little too regular. after that you have the 45 with a great new design and that beautiful unique gold, and the 46 which again has a nice design and the LED's make it more unique.

Loved the movie too. The “Mandarin” or the head of the 5 Rings might still be out there. Just because Trevor wasn’t him doesn’t mean there really isn’ one.

But that didn’t bother me. I had no expectations from the movie or the Mandarin character, so I would have been fine either way. I actually like to see when a superhero has to rely on his wits instead of his powers to get out of situations. I always thought Die Hard 3 would have made a great Batman movie with the Riddler posing the, um, riddles, and Bruce Wayne had to solve them as a civilian, and if the Riddler saw Batman, then Kaboom! I thought all the action sequences were really exciting and fun. Loved the barrel of monkeys rescue and don’t feel it’s diminished because Tony wasn’t in the suit. And there are great moments of humor as well. I love the little jump of fear/panic Tony does when he asks Maya if his (unknown) 12 year old son is waiting in the car and she says (joking), “he’s 13.” I even thought the kid was good—and I hate kids in movies. And I thought his repartee with Don Cheadle was great.

I get what your saying about perceived fans not liking a movie even if it has big numbers...but even if the fan community dislikes a film to make hundreds of millions of dollars people liked it. There's really no other way it gets this numbers. Many people see it multiple times. People recommend it. I'm not saying everyone likes it. But massive amounts of people do. It's not just people wanting to see it or nearly every movie would do it. And that's just not what happens. Fan communities for most of the franchise represent a small percentage of overall audiences.

The height thing...yeah it's funny how people look at it. I have a unique view having worked in sets. The one that always gets me is Tom Cruise. The guy is tiny. I saw him on a set and he was a full foot shorter then a costar but on screen they where portayed eye to eye.
