1/6 1/6 Hot Toys - MMS 452 - Star Wars: Episode V ESB - Darth Vader

So looking at all these pics other freaks have posted of the Hot Toys ESB Vader, I could not help but feel it looked familiar:



The pic on the left is courtesy of Kylo Ren,the pic on the right is my Sideshow ROTJ Vader head modified with the much larger Hot Toys Rogue One dome. To me this combination looks eerily similar to the newer Hot toys ESB Vader head sculpt.

I remember alot of people complained the Sideshow mouth was too large, perhaps not after all? Originally the Sideshow's smaller dome may have exaggerated the effect, because it looks fine to me, and more proportional with the Hot toys rogue One dome.

I'm still undecided on the HT ESB helmet but not sure I agree. The SSC has those dead-flat cheek tops, the mouth triangle extends too far down so seems too big overall and too wide at the bottom. He has that 1970's comic Vader look. Those were the two things that killed that SSC DX effort. There's other flaws too - the lower "eyelids" are noticeably too big/high on the SSC, and a somewhat undersized nose. Overall, the lower face seems too big in relation to the eyes on the SSC DX.

While the two at a glance seem similar, there's also some lens distortion in that pic of the HT ESB, making the mouth triangle seem more prominent proportionate to the overall face (the very thing that stands out as the most noticeable flaw in the SSC DX) in that pic than it does in others.

Found on facebook. Looks like the tusk had come off in transit or wasnt properly glued. Bad news for the owner. Good news for those who wanted to mod them. Seems they have a seam which might help in repositioning the tusks.

Maybe HT knew there was going to be criticism of this figure and they made sure there wasn't too many reviews around before shipping them out

it's like they weren't too proud of it to begin with

Hm, this 3 year old 1:3 ESB statue review also has the cuts behind the tusks to mirror the episode 3 helmet fitting, although this was not present in the ESB costume. Could it be lisence enforced after all? *X-files theme*

If I were a betting man, I’d bet every penny I own on HT making several Vaders in the future. I’m impatient so I want a Vader now lol. So far the minuscule inaccuracies don’t bother me, and the other qc issues don’t seem that major. However I’m still waiting to be convinced. this hobby some times

It would be ironic if HT saw all the cancellations for ESB Vader and decided collectors just weren't interested in the character anymore and stopped work on the ROTJ version.

Maybe the 1:4 releasing in a year is their rotj Vader to end the line with a bang.. no 1:6 version!

Not gonna happen tho, a Vader lisence is like a dollar printing press in your basement.

Damn you. Because of this pic, I just ordered both the death trooper and death trooper specialist from eBay. Your pic looks so badass. Will pose one with My current Kylo Ren and the other with this ESB Vader. Don’t care if not correct lol.

I preordered this figure a while back. I received it last thursday. I opened the box, left everything in tact, took one look at the helmet sculpt and put it back in the box. This is going straight back to sideshow. Disappointing would be an understatement. I didn't pay $270 to get a piece of plastic that kinda looks like vader. If I pay almost $300 I expect it to be exact if not darn near close. This missed that mark by a mile.

I guess my custom vader is what I will be displaying. I did get the display stand and gloves to upgrade those clunky SS hands. take a photo once stuff comes in.

That would be mine.
I'm planning on getting the new ESB chest armor to see if it's an upgrade to the kaiyodo one I'm currently using (you can see at the bottom edge that it's a bit thick).

With reference to the comments about the helmet sitting too high above the eyes on the mask, isn't that accurate for ESB?

In ANH the helmet was pulled down low, but in ESB you can regularly see the gap, even in the third screen grab where Vader's looking straight ahead.

Good review. Tusks didn't irrittated me when viewed from a normal distance. The only thing I don't like the most is the huge shoulder pauldrons. Did you push them under the chest armor Justin?

Do we know if we're going to get a ROTJ 1/6 version or could this be the last Vader? Was going to pull the trigger on this or ESB Fett but can't decide. Want a Vader but this thread is making me hesitate.

Maybe the ROTJ Vader will be quite close to this ESB one.

Just wanted to post a couple pics with the Unreal Customs wired cape. The wires at the front edges even more so won’t let the head look down, but it’s still such a great cape:

Whelp my UPS mychoice updated this morning and both my Vader and Fett got delayed till tomorrow instead of being delivered today. First world problems, but man why does it seem like this **** always happens on the more anticipated releases?? Really annoyed.

I hear ya on that. I presigned for my ESB Fett to be left on the porch but the UPS man left my wife’s package that needed a signature instead. Had to wait an extra two days for it to be ready for pickup.
