Yeah it does sour it a little.

And I'm looking at the other foot and it looks like it wasn't glue together all that well too...

Now these are minor problems, I think I'm inclined to say that it should be better for how much this guy costs.

I hate seeing crap like this...a simple lack of attention to detail on something that's promoted and sold as being detailed. What will we find wrong with the $850 Hulkbuster?!

Could that small piece be in the box somewhere? HT glue is notoriously faulty.
Yeah I checked the box and the table I was sitting at, and the tile floor under it just in case and nothing.
Looks like the outer spike on the right foot of this figure needs fixing as well.

And it certainly looks that way. Is this a common QC issue now?? I thought it was just my figure.

Alright, here goes.

I'm probably going to come off as a Boba Fett elitist. I'm writing this from the perspective of 'how does it compare to the screen-used suit,' so please keep that in mind.

The overall figure is great. As with the 1/4 scale figure, the attention to detail is astonishing. This is a more complete Boba Fett than has ever been offered in this scale, and the VAST majority of the details are totally intact, along with several details that didn't really need to be included in order for this figure to be super sweet. The most apparent example of this is, like the 1/4 scale figure, the jetpack harness (the third little 'belt'). If Hot Toys chose not to include this, very few people would notice, and even fewer would actually complain.

Hot Toys put forth a completely awesome effort regarding paint. The details are MOSTLY correct for the Return of the Jedi suit, and the figure's paint work is, in true Hot Toys tradition, quite intricate. Multiple colors were used, even for the similar greens that appear on the armor/helmet.

The underlying body is awesome, and provides amazing articulation, MUCH more so than the 1/4 scale figure. Deep poses are still a little out of reach, but that's because the suit is slightly restrictive, and, really, how many deep poses does Boba Fett need to achieve? The neck is a bit short, so this makes the figure look a little squat.

The sculpting of the pieces of the figure are where things go a little off-track. Like the 1/4 scale figure, the helmet shape is poor, perhaps even more so here. This is the most frustrating part for me, since Boba Fett IS his helmet. In a general sense, it's totally fine, but once you pass into the more in-depth areas of the Fett helmet, the inaccuracies really jump out. The shape is extremely flat in the back, the visor is wrong in every imaginable way, and the rangefinder is incorrect. The casual fan will probably never notice these things, but, like I said with the 1/4 figure, there just really is no excuse for sculpting that is this far off when other areas look so good.

The knee pads are particularly troublesome. They're made from a very soft plastic, which is good, because they won't snap, but it's also bad because they tend to bend and flex in a way that makes them look cheap and misshapen. They're also much too tight, and the way that the 'rocket darts' are set into the pads themselves is poor (I had a broken-off dart in the box). A dab of superglue will fix this problem, but it was a little frustrating. The hands are simply scaled-down versions of the 1/4 hand lineup, and as such, they lack the details on the 'quilted' fingers, as well. They're not as bad as some of the comments have suggested, and I'm REALLY happy that they got the colors correct (the 1/4 scale hands were quite inaccurate, color-wise). On the bright side, the rest of the pieces look great, from the chest armor to the boots, and another improvement over the 1/4 scale is the inclusion of ball-jointed feet, allowing for A LOT more articulation.

The jetpack hangs awkwardly, as it sits straight up against Boba Fett's back, where it should be fairly low-slung and the rocket should point slightly away from his body (seems like a small detail, but it REALLY aids in making Fett 'look' right).

The gauntlets have tremendous detail, and although they're nearly perfect, there's something about their design, or perhaps the arms, that prevents Boba Fett from holding his rifle properly. I haven't examined thoroughly, but it's noticeable in pictures I've seen, and pretty noticeable in hand. Whereas my Medicom Boba Fetts can hold the rifle naturally, as the Sideshow Fett can also, the Hot Toys version doesn't work so well.

Interestingly enough, the Hot Toys rifle is almost identical to the Medicom rifle in detail, but absolutely identical in overall size. This was true of the Sideshow/Medicom sidearms (The Empire Strikes Back versions), as well. When Boba Fett holds his rifle, because hands these days tend to be noticeably oversized, his pinky finger/palm hangs down well past the rifle grip.

The Sarlacc base is...ummmm....interesting. I'm glad I got the Deluxe version for completeness' sakes, but its just not very...great. I'm going to see about using the 1/4 scale skiff base with the figure. It looks to be perfect scale.

What I feel is that, although we now have the best 1/6 Boba Fett ever, there are still leaps and bounds to be made towards an end-all, be-all. Of course, I know we can say that about any figure. I was bursting at the seams when Hot Toys showed that pixelated photo of what turned out to be the 1/4 scale (slightly underwhelming), and the 1/6 is somewhat underwhelming as well (though it's superior in some ways to the 1/4 scale - go figure - pun intended). No company has got him right yet, though I thought that if any company did, it would be Hot Toys. So the journey continues, but in the meantime, there's A LOT to be happy about, here.

Though I'm sure this sounds like I'm nitpicking the figure to death, I really love it, and I'm looking forward to at least two more of them. I can't wait to begin hacking it up, and I'm sure there'll be plenty other members who will modify this figure and really bring out his true potential. More pictures to come.

Thanks for the review! The expert eye on these things is always so interesting.:clap

I bought the helmet from this fig with the thought I'd use it on my custom ESB build-up (heat and splay it a bit to widen) but it did indeed seem a bit off, but couldn't put my finger on it. I'm now using it on my Marmit ROTJ custom, which I'm matching to the HT.

Interesting about what you said about the gloves - the pics I've seen of the 1/6 HT Fett show the gloves as a sort of tan and white, whereas all the onscreen ROTJ reference I can clearly see, the gloves are light/mid grey (not as dark as ESB) and off-white. Maybe it's the pics that are making the HT gloves seem more tan (with even a tinge of green) and off-white.

The RotJ gloves are, of course, dirty and weathered, but they retain a dark(er) and light contrast (the gloves proper plus the 'padding'). Not nearly as pronounced as the ESB gloves, which were much closer to blue and white.

You have to remember, a lot of my 'review' had to do with the 1/6 scale versus the 1/4 scale, since the sculpting of most of the parts is identical.

As compared to the 1/4, the 1/6 is a big step up. Color choices AND accuracy.

Regarding the helmet, smart move to widen it. Very interested to see the results. On the bright side, I've commissioned none other than the mighty Fettpride (look him up) to try to improve on the current 1/6 helmet offerings.

Are there plastic toe caps on the front of the boots or just plastic bags? Those spikes look fragile, maybe the one on the left boot was dislodged during transit.

Anyone else find this belt to be little more than an annoyance? It made everything sit funky across his midsection so I took it off.

Nice figure. An upgrade over SS in all regards but not something that has really blown me away for some reason.

Good review. I think your analysis is correct. I am not a Boba expert but I read your review and compared my figure I just received today to movie pictures. Overall I think the figure was done quite well but the helmet is way off compared to the movie pics. The figure's helmet and visor is stretched vertically which may also explain why the neck looks too short. Still think it's a great figure but why get so many things right with the figure but miss out on the key part of Boba which is his helmet? The odd thing is Boba's helmet by design you would think would be easier to replicate than others. It's not nearly as difficult to sculpt vs Vader or a Storm Trooper helmet. I hope Hot Toys makes the correction for the ESB version.

Sorry I meant those of us outside the USA that have ordered from Sideshow. I'm in Ireland and was told stock would not be shipping from the international warehouse until May 7th.

Sent from the Death Star communication division.

My deluxe arrived today and I'm in Northern Ireland.

Can anyone post pics of the hand pegs taken out of the figure. Thanks

:goodpost: that would be interesting. It seems they have used black? pegs? bad choice of colours...

Rubio, many thanks for the comprehensive review and the great pics.

I understand your overall feeling is "good" for this figure at this price. However, it is a letdown to see your opinion and know that they missed out the right helmet sculpt.

Did you "unplug" your Fett's head out of the neck peg when posing yours?
it looked like you somehow managed to compensate the "too short a neck look".

You also managed to make your fett look more tidy at the waist, and the figure, with the neck and head pose improved, and also the waist area futzed, looks much much better.

I have preordered it, and I don't regret it after seeing your pics.

Thanks for that. Can I ask if you were flex pay or payment on full? Just trying to figure out why my order is not shipping until two weeks time. Sideshow said they did not have them in the "international" warehouse yet.

Interested to hear *how* the Fett helmet shape is off - and if it can be fixed/modded at all. I can see that the wedge part of the rangefinder (on the flat stripe glued on the side of the helmet) stands out maybe 2mm too far whereas it should be flush - looks like a molding error - but stuff like the T visor I'm not clear on where it's wrong.

The HT Vader helmet has been torn apart, shaved and reglued to make it more accurate. Though that one is probably more accurate in stock condition than the Fett helmet is.

It was payment in full. As far as I can tell it shipped from their US warehouse, not HK as usual, so it might be because of that. I did preorder quite very soon after it went up.

Question for you, Rubio. So the underlying pack support belt, how should that be set up? Under the red braided belt? Over the crotch armor plate or above it?

Great question.

On the screen-used suit, the jetpack harness was made from a scuba tank harness. It looks like this:

th

The belt included with the figure is the lower portion of this.

This belt should be hidden JUST under the bottom of the flak vest, so that the buckle is peeking out of the bottom, but some of the shorter actors that wore the suit have had the belt slung quite low under the belly button, depending on how tightly-cinched the belt was.

Boba-Fett-Costume-Second-Prototype-23.jpg

It's hard to find reference pictures that show the harness, as it's part of the undercarriage assembly. I took mine off of the 1/6 figure to cut down on bulk. As I said in my little write up, a welcome (but somewhat unnecessary) inclusion, even if it's not the entire harness.

Thank you, Rubio! Your Fett knowledge is very much appreciated. Like I mentioned, I took mine of the figure as well. I've always perfered the slimmer look for Boba similar to the promo shot you just posted, so I got rid of it. Mine came with it under the other two belts, which most appear to be judging by the fresh from the box pics we've been seeing. This just makes the entire mid-section sit look all out of whack.
