Maybe it's the helmet or the tilt of the head that changes the look but it appears to me that the in hand product looks to have less of a smirk than Hot Toys proto shots. If its just as simple as a tilt of the head which changes the whole expression though this really will be one of Hot Toys best ever sculpts (up there with DX06 and DX08)

I'd think the ladies would prefer Thor or Cap to Loki, but I guess I was wrong.

To yank the thread away from the action figure in question for a bit: the simple guide to understanding the [villain-centric] female mindset related to the male Avengers: or maybe I should just speak for myself...

Cap: A true hero. Does the right thing for the right reasons, and let's not forget the movie version is smooooookin'-hot. For a hero, he's all that. I like Cap a lot. You cant help but like him.

He's a little too holy to be relatable, though.

Iron Man: A condescending bastard. Throw those rocks at me IM fans, it changeth nothing There is very little heroic about this guy, although the ending to the movie shows [perhaps] some evolution in his mindset. Billionaire, philanthropist, playboy.... not very relatable, plus he's dating Gweneth Paltrow. What chance does a non-actress, non-model have? Yeah.... not much. [I did like the 1st film especially. Not really hatin' on IM, he's just so not my type.]

Hulk: Passing on giant green guys that go raaaar!!, no offense.

Hawkeye: Not too bad. Don't know much about him, as I recall he has a reputation for irritability. Irritability is un-heroic. He has possiblity

THOR: Obviously meant to be perfect. However he does things I don't like. Don't like his attitude. He had being thrown out of Asgard absolutely coming, and still has some stuff to learn about humility. He's like a superpowered captain of the football team: you love me! you HAVE to. Ugh.

Loki: A condescending bastard, but for all the right reasons. Loki has legitimate reasons for grievance. Wrongs have been done him and more are coming. He is a man denied, his fate is already written and it is not a happy one. But while trying to change his fate, he is lookin' smooooookin' hot. he's always been rather interesting-looking and in this movie he is drop-dead sex-cellent.

No buyer's remorse here, I want this figure WORSE than ever. I agree with others in wanting the Thor movie costume as well as the "battle version" costume he was wearing while in detention. I doubt we will see those, but one can dream.

I hope the HT figure does really well so maybe in the future, more Loki stuff will be forthcoming.

Pfftt, I am married and have been for years. I just keep [mostly] shut about this stuff around my husband, for the sake of his ego. He does not share my enthusiasm for the superpowered set, but he gamely sat through "The Avengers" and "Thor" for my sake - not to mention other films - and for that I am grateful. He'll sit through "Prometheus" for me too

As far as someone else's comment remarking on the difference between a pic snapped with a flash and the figure being inside a case vs the HT glamour-shots, well with the differences in lighting you are going to see less detail, no two ways about it. The thing that amazes me is how good Loki looks inside a case, with a flash and no fancy lighting.

One day this figure is going to be a collector grail. Oh yeah.

Even my girlfriend's little sister likes Loki, and she's pretty much into Chris Evans only so I think that's a good sign. I'm trying to get her to appreciate the Red Skull but no luck, it's all about looks at her age, lol. I'll take it though, if Loki gets people into Marvel then awesome.

Hell's yeah! I freakin' love Loki and I love Tom Hiddleston. Seriously, the guys amazing, and he portrays the character of Loki with incredible depth an emotion.

I have no problem admitting as a guy, that I find most of the male actors in the Avengers attractive. They're the kind of people you want as superheroes, you want them to be attractive and charismatic. Chris Evans though is the standout as far as the superheroes go imo.

Not a spoiler, more like an OT Red Skull frat, lol.

Haha, the thing with Red Skull is she doesn't quite grasp who he is and what his motives/beliefs are. I've never really though of the "modern" Red Skull as a Nazi, he hates everyone equally and simply wants to rule them all. The Nazi party was just his means to an end, he could probably care less about the plight of the German people or the Jews. I'm not saying that to lessen his evil, but he's a far more complex and interesting. Or maybe because I don't see him as a Nazi I can appreciate the character as a character. I just don't think they were able to explore him enough in the film to give mainstream viewers a good idea of who he is. She just calls him a Nazi that looks funny. She's 14 by the way, so I expect a bit more from her, lol. Ah, what do I know, I've always just liked him because he's an interesting and cool looking villain (with good stories). She is slowly getting into the comic world through movies though, so I should take it at that and be impressed. I know Red Skull isn't a villain movie goers are supposed to like, like Loki is, oh well. lol. Well, you can say one thing about the movie Red Skull, you have to respect his determination to become a superhuman.

To round this all out, Loki is just easier for most people to "like" I think. He does things that are evil, but it's not necessarily because he's evil. He's more confused, angry, feels betrayed and overlooked, in over his head, and a bit crazy from everything that's happened to him. Plus he is more attractive in a classic sense than Hugo Weaving is. Still, there figures will look great together.
