Did anyone else notice the slight shift away from Kenneth Brannagh's 'ancient aliens that use technology so advanced it looks like magic' in "THOR", to..."The Avengers", where they are referring to both LOKI and THOR as actual gods?

Widow's dialogue about how the Asgardians essentially are gods.

Loki refers to Odin having conjured a lot of 'dark magic' to bring Thor back to Earth after the Rainbow Bridge (Effinghell?) was smashed. It may look like magic to younger races, but surely the Asgardians would not refer to it as such between themselves?

Fury's statement about avoiding disagreement with the god that wanted to return the Tesseract back to Asgard.

That was in the Avengers, not Thor. It's just to keep his mouth shut.

So there isn't a valid reason then. I knew that happened in Avengers.

What I was referring to is maybe they mentioned it in the Thor film, even though his mouth was covered in the end of Avengers.

It just seemed random all of a sudden. I'm surprised they didn't give a reasonable explanation for something that was clearly noticable. :dunno

The reasonable explanation is inferred from the film. His words/lies are able to manipulate people, so they put the muzzle on him in case he tries to talk his way out of something. I would consider that a valid reason.

I personally didn't like the muzzle. He'd already been defeated, and it seemed unnecessarily humiliating to me. I don't think there's anything he could have said to get out of the situation at that point. I assumed it was a reference to the original mythology where Loki has his lips sewn shut as a punishment.

The muzzle could also be to stop him speaking to work his magic. There was a bit in a Young Avengers comic recently where Hulkling put his hand over Loki's mouth to prevent spell-casting.

There was no way he was going to talk his way out of that situation. He gets under people's skin, but there hasn't been one time in the films that he truely has manipulated an enemy into doing his bidding.

Also, he is an alien and not a god, so he can't cast spells.

I always assumed that they just put the muzzle on because his attempts to manipulate people are annoying, and they didn't want him to ruin their good moods.

I just always thought it was to shut him up. You see Black Widow whisper in Hawkeyes ear about Loki and Hawkeye smiles. I'm assuming they're talking about him being in a muzzle so that he can't talk.

Black Widow does say 'essentially gods' (as you said) or it might have been 'basically'

But that's just the same as the Thor movie, humanity's perception is that they may as well be gods, thry are god like. Basically gods. Not that they are gods

But i guess that then depends on what you define as a god

As far as magic is concerned, they talk about this in Thor with regards to the blurring between science and magic, Loki even displays skilks in what some would call 'magic'

You may call it 'advanced science' but either way, Loki is seen using simple hand gestures to create duplicates of himself and produce the Casket of Ancient Winters

From all of this, I infer that Loki is able to recite 'spells' and this is why the muzzle was placed on him, not because he's 'annoying'

Just my thoughts

:exactly: That's what I thought all along. But I also agree that he could've spoke magic and that was one reason why they muzzled him.

Thanks guys for answering my question

I'm glad I wasn't forced to watch through Thor again. It was one of my least favorite of the films leading up to Avengers, Even with hotty Portman in it.

Hemsworth is a great action star, but his Thor voice is so boring. :slap

Hiddleson has a better presence in each film and puts so much life to Loki.
