Midas wasn't technically part of the Toy Fair exclusive lineup last year was it? I thought it was marketed more as a movie promo figure for Iron Man 3. I might be wiling about that though.

No you are right. It was a "Summer Exclusive" and not a toy fairs exclusive. The toy fairs ones went up around comic con last year and shipped a few weeks later.

Yeah I thought it was marketed a bit differently thus why it took a bit longer to come out. Sort of like Golden Age Captain America from The Winter Soldier. The Toy Fair stuff seems like they already have the figures ready to go by the time they announce them and just put it up for order and release it shortly after they've made their way through the various conventions.

I ordered Colton last year on Aug 1. It was delivered Sep 24 which means it shipped 4 business days earlier.

Thats wierd, is it that with those they only ship to US addresses or do they ship to other countries too? Do SS have any shipping restrictions for these exclusives to countries other than the US/Canada (I'm in the UK)

I'm based in the UK and I had no problems ordering Midas, direct from Sideshow.. Midas was never listed by Forbidden Planet(.com) in the UK and the main authorised European distributor, charged an inflated price for Midas.. so I'm going to be ordering Python direct form Sideshow.
Note that Sideshow's courier Fed Ex, will pay the import duties and then bill you afterwards.. this means you get the figure delivered faster and to your door.. rather than having to wait for it to be processed through normal channels and then have to collect and pay for it at a regional depot.

To work out the import duty fee in advance, you take the complete US dollar price (figure cost and shipping cost combined) convert it to sterling (as an example, type.. change 350 dollars into pounds ..using Google's search) then 20% of that figure gives you the VAT charge, plus approx £11 for the tax processing fee.
So the 20% plus processing fee, is what Fed Ex will bill you.. bear in mind that because exchange rates fluctuate, working the figure out in advance is not an exact science.

Great Posting there Taibhse, that will be really helpful for importers.... :clap

Indeed great post, I have had a few things imported to the UK in the past some of which got stung at customs, its interesting that Fed Ex will not only release your package and bill you after the fact but their handling fee is smaller than whoever use Parcel Force to complete delivery.

Its actually scary how many times you hear about people ordering from outside of the UK and then having problems when they get an import charge they weren't expecting.

That would be because Sideshow doesn't offer exclusives to retailers at wholesale pricing. If they want an exclusive they're paying the same price as you or me, then charging a mark-up to make a small profit.

so this will be like the midas a toy fair exclusive again... saw they're goin to have this for pre-order for the taiwan HT show next month
hopefully it won't be a joke again and become not really a toy fair "exclusive" again like the midas

Thanks! :hi5:

Parcel Force are part of Royal Mail, as a result they are often the UK representative for overseas National postal / parcel services.. I am not sure exactly what they base their 'handling' fee structure on.. I suspect there is a minimum charge and then price increases at specific values.. but I don't have any details.

I think when collectors in the UK get 'surprise' import charges it is often either.. because they hadn't really thought about the issue of import duties in advance, since they are new to buying goods from countries outside the EU.. or because they mistakenly thought 'Used' items were exempt.

I remember the first time I bought something from the US on the interwebz, I was not very happy to discover the combination of import duties and handling fee, in particular.. almost doubled the price of the (initially) not very expensive T-shirt.. lesson learned.. the handling fee cost can be a real problem with inexpensive items.

As a small side note.. If anyone reading this is a Computer Game fan in the UK (or the EU) and thinking of buying merchandise from the Jinx clothing website, make sure you use their US store not the 'European' pricing options, and pay in dollars.. because all products ship from the US.. so you definitely do not want to pay import duties on the considerably higher Sterling (Euro) pricing.. not sure why Jinx thinks that option is helpful.. because it isn't.

I can po this now for €300 from my local dealer. Same price for Joker and Pred. Its a heavy load of money, but it wont be any cheaper from Sideshow. Shipping (USD 30), taxes (25%), handling fee (10%) and the new FedEX extra charge (USD 25) make it almost impossible for me to order stuff directly from SSC... Think I will be in on this one... :dunno
